Both pretty impressive, but the Defender systems are just an absolute tour de force… Makes it so easy.
Defender again proving itself despite the naysayers.
Its a capable truck but its just not up to par with a Wrangler or Bronco. Its more like a grand cherokee trail-hawk but costs as much as a bmw x7. Heck I think a 4Runner is more capable than it just because its body on frame and solid axles.
@@Inferno45 It is as good as the wrangler and the bronco at off roading as it has the best awd system for off roading and it can tow 8k lbs in towing. Now in terms of toyota no lol comparing toyota to a landrover in off roading is like comparing a ford pinto to a Koenigsegg you can't compare the two, let alone a full size range rover with out any lockers off roads better then any toyota they have and most of what jeep has and ford has.
Happy to see the grand Cherokee back
This was more about driving skils and experience than vehicle capability. Slow, steady and the right line is key. Hats off to the Defenders driver 👍
Its a bit about the driver but that defender is so OP offroad, it more an offroad computersystem then a car 🤣
The Defender's traction control system is second to none.
He also has lockers. The grand cherokee doesnt
@@Inferno45 He has a center locker and a rear locker. The Jeep has a center locker and a rear ELSD if equipped with the Quadra-Drive II 4wd system.
@@greggb681 In video trailhawk should have quadra-drive II
Great video. Both capable vehicles, but need to driven differently than live axel rigs and this video demonstrated this perfectly. Thank you for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it. I wheeled the Defender, and the Suspension setup is gar different than a Wrangler. No solid axle, ISF. Highway ride is superb though. That's the trade off...
@@jonathanblanc6826 I have a new Defender, have spent the last year figuring out how to wheel it. It's completely different, yet somehow still pretty capable. I'm now confident I can hang with most any rig. I do have the the locking rear diff, which IMO does make a difference on harder obstacles. Anyways, loved the video.
great video. Does 'come across' that the Defender driver knows the TRS quite well, constant throttle, let the system work it all out, where the GC driver was quick to lift off and had little time for it to work, though it does appear to take a longer to react. Wheelbase also seemed to make a difference in the 2nd hill climb. Lots of variables but good to watch. Thanks for the video.
Yeah the GC driver seemed way less experienced than the Defender driver.
i couldnt finish the video. again another video proving its rarely about the vehicles capability, but more about the drivers capability. jeep driver had no idea what he was doing yet dummies think it means jeep is less capable.
The Jeep driver looks like he had never been off-roading and just went out and bought a new jeep and decided to get it dirty.
Nice comparo. I was out there in a discovery 2 the same day you guys were. Next time you guys head out let me know. Have a couple gx470s that would come to for some more comparison videos 👍
If the JGC had the EcoDiesel engine in it, the Defender would not be even close
The Jeep has all seasons tires while the Land Rover has the mud snow tires, that makes a huge difference in the traction of the wheels on rocks. On this occasion, it’s unfair to compare the two
Looking at the wheel spin between front and back, especially on the 2nd section (climbing the rocks), you can see the 4x4 system on the Defender is much better than the GC. Great vehicle.... a little pricey!
The LR Defender was impressive. The Grand Cherokee looked like its tires were substandard, just not biting.
Both looked like they'd benefit tremendously from sway bar disconnect as neither seemed to have much articulation.
The Defender was in 4" air suspension lift when I was driving it. The articulation is minimal in this setting. That the trade off for a fantastic, taught, nimble and smooth highway ride. The versatility is a real hidden strength. I can drive for hours in comfort, air down, and I'm ready to keep up with (most) Wranglers...
The grand cherokee driver also looked inexperienced compared to the Defender driver.
Would be great know more info about which modes or options the JGC and Defender have in this
Defender 110 has the P400 engine, no rsolid ear locker, but electronic front and rear locker setup. 33's BFG KO2'S
Defender has solid center locker
Also, 4" air suspension for Defender is at full height on both trails which greatly reduces the articulation, but allows for wheeling harder trails without a lift...
@@jonathanblanc6826 What system did the JGC have? It performed horribly compared to what I have experienced with it.
@@DrivenHard I was thinking the same thing. I'm guessing it was a QT2 and not a QD2. It had to work a little to hard on some things that the QD2 would have done easily
What kind of tires do you have on that cherokee ? Looking for some offroad setup for my car . thanks
Wow, great trail there for testing!!!
Excellent vid.

People always talk about the bad thing for lifting a tire but no one ever mentions the good thing about lifting a tire... One of the good things is that tire doesn't have to climb the obstacle half the time... Another nice effect of that is that you are decreasing rolling resistance right as you're climbing something.... As long as you don't flip over and you have good balance.... it sounds like the perfect thing to happen.... I'm sure everyone likes a decreased rolling resistance while climbing a hill...
So wheres the second and third obstacle? What’s it is called?
We videod at Rausch Creek. More comparisons of footage filmed to come!
@@jonathanblanc6826 nice. Seems like the traction control of the defender is more sensitive to wheel spin than the one on grand Cherokee. I am friend of John and can’t wait to get out with ur guys
We look forward to wheeling with you! Not sure about the wheel spin on the JGC vs Defender
@@4WDisLife from what I read it has a more advanced piston system for each wheel that has half the reaction time of a traditional abs system.
Trailhawk needed to air down and use low range rock mode to crawl. This would have made a tremendous difference. Driver was very novice in ability here. Kudos to the Defender and driver, well done, drama free off roading!
Finally a comparison between JGC Trailhawk and the defender. Does the defender have locker?
Yes it does Center and rear lockers
Don’t know if the one in the video has lockers tho
@@joskjj3625 i see. Well i hate to say it as an owner of a Trailhawk but land rover traction system seems faster and more superior than the jeep one.
@@fahdabdulaziz5067 that is true
@@fahdabdulaziz5067 I've owned three WK2 Grand Cherokees and switched to the Defender last year. While I loved my Grands, the Defender is considerably better. But in fairness, it should be given my Defender was $20k more than even my Summit.
@@cwdresseni hope Jeep has some improvements in the 22 Trailhawk. I know it has better articulation but I hope the QD2 is improved as well
Jeep Grand Cherokee = America's Range Rover Sport
Amazed the Defender didn't break down, honestly.
What an ill-informed comment. 16k miles on it and zero issues. Cheers
@@jonathanblanc6826 That must be a record!
🥱
kudos to this guy using hi defender like it should be and not a garage Queen
This video is at Rausch Creek Off-road Park in Pennsylvania. I have done the same trails as in the video, too, with my stock 2020 JGC Trailhawk ( have Mopar rock rails) and had minimal spins. It appears here that the TH driver is not as experienced in off-roading situations (especially choosing the right line for his rig) and/or does not yet know or feel comfortable with the abilities and/or systems of his Jeep, which are impressive indeed...and, of course, the tires do make a difference!
Has anyone tried a Toyota with crawl control in these situations? Love to see how it works on this type of trail.
I am really wondering which mode the GC driver is using ? Because its performance is very poor here
What trail is this? I think I saw another group put a video out on this trail, their GC handled it better than this one. A lot of the time is depends on the drivers. The Defender did really well on this trail from what I can see from the video. I would like to take my 05 WK with QDII system and Hemi on this trial.
Trail 11 at Rausch Creek. It's a Jeep BOH
Prodigal Overland did a run on that trail with GC's.
Awesome!!!
The defender driver was spot on.
The GC driver sucks. He spent money on upgrading the front bumper but didn’t upgrade its tires
Jaki napęd miał jeep ? Bo napewno nie QD2 bo problemy jak w QT2 jeep wh Przejechał by bez problemu QD2
Apparently the driving skills are very different...
I'd like to put my new gc trailhawk through that to see how it would do. Something would have to take my mind off the 55k I spent on it first though!
Wish they would have brought back the the front ELSD for the price they are charging now. With the front sway bar disconnect it would be a good step up over the competition.
In fairness, the Jeep driver was obviously inexperienced driving offroad. He doesn't understand how his 4WD system operates either.
Doesn't look like the THGC is in the right mode. Your other videos show it is much more capable.
Both relatively capable but surely a downside must be the enormous price? My totally standard Defender 90 TD5 has climbed much more technical courses than these and at less than 30% of the cost……..
And a sore back
2024 I Take the Defender 110.
Lol thought that Jeep was going to slam a door a couple of times.
What's the point of 4 wheel drive if you're only using 3 of them!?😂 The defender is a lot lighter and more nimble than the Cherokee,a lot more expensive too. I'm British and I've got a grand Cherokee and I love it
Defender driver was much more experienced
That Jeep guy needs to not back off so quickly. Jeep traction control will figure it out if you give it some more time
The articulation on that defender is hilarious like a skateboard on the trail yet noobs will say it's the greatest ever.
It's a stock SUV. What exactly do you want from it? It's a thousand times more versatile than the Wrangler or Bronco which are severely underpowered and have an embarrassing towing.
So you're going to mention the defender and not the cherokee??? Lol
Well it destroyed the Jeep here, so…
Not gonna say its the greatest ever but did we even see the same video? The Defender looked more like a spider compared to the Cherokee.
@@cwdressen The Bronco is only live axle in the rear...A Rubicon Jeep would embarrass this mall crawler though.
I spy the new bronco
Defender need bigger tires
Can't go higher than 33's without lifting it....
@@jonathanblanc6826 I see, nice rig by the way
@@jonathanblanc6826 although putting the 2 inch lift in it is dead simple.
@@Douganchesner Yes, but 1.5" is the sweet spot on rod lift, but articulation is slightly worse with rods....and warranty voided if air suspension goes...which is an $8k repair! Sub-frame lift is only way for better articulation, and bigger tires.
I’m guessing you are the owner of this Defender in the video? I have a 2021 110 x-dynamic which I haven’t modded yet but might do a lift later. I still have an LR3 as well which I have off-roaded a decent amount and never had air suspension issues (had to replace compressor at usual 120k. Stuff can obviously happen but I feel like peoples perception of the fragility of the airbags is pretty overstated but maybe I’ve just been lucky.
