I’ve always read these comments and never really understand the weight of them. I (a man) was in a long term abusive relationship with a girl, and listening to this podcast initially took me to some dark places as it helped my brain bring some dark thoughts and moments back. The way you’ve both spoken about these subjects throughout the podcast have made me really proud to take the next step and go through the therapy necessary to process these experiences and I’m writing form to ask for the relevant help as we speak. I’ve suppressed this for years as I’ve felt weak and ashamed to open up about it, and honestly this podcast has changed that for me, if you ever lose sight of why these conversations are important this is why. Thank you both!

Oh man, you are carrying guilt and shame that was never meant for you. I'm going to say something you'd never expect to hear from a woman. Yes, you need to share these feelings but I don't recommend you sharing them with a female. It's kind of okay like here in a comments section because it's not as interpersonal as in real life. You were manipulated by a woman. So you will have built in defenses and programmed automatic responses to women. Nothing wrong about that. As a matter of fact that's perfectly normal. What you need are videos like this and other men who have experienced what you have. You can absorb information about narcissistic manipulation, gaslighting and just plain cruelty only if you can relax and let down your walls. I think that would be next to impossible with a female right now. And for a very good reason. Peace bro. First learn what happened to you then you can take back your sovereignty and release that shame because it is not yours to carry. That was the only way it worked for me and kind of everyone who has been entangled by a toxic narcissist that I've met. Male or female, a narcissist is a parasite that lures you in with love bombing then proceeds to feed off of you.

At some point I heard the phrase "Narcissists are in love with their own reflection" and so I took it to mean that they're just sort of *a level above conceited* . But then I met someone who was literally incapable of ever admitting wrong doing and it was driving me insane, this behavior. I began searching because I knew it must have a name: thats when I came across *Narcissist* .

@@demi8890 I did not assume that the comment implied that they are not human and should be treated like a rabid animal. The contradictions in Narcissism that I have observed is that they, on the one hand have this grandiosity and desire for control and on the other hand, really need the admiration and esteem from the outside world, to up hold their ego ideal. The narcissist I know, shapeshifted himself to everyone he met, in order to illicit the admiration.. the personality is fragmented. I have heard much disagreement in whether therapy and help actually works. Their defensive structure is impenetrable. I have much empathy for their emptiness. They usually end up , old ,alone and broken, as the gap widens between their fantasy world and their reality. Maybe one day, we can find a way to help.

I dated a narcissist a few years ago for only a few weeks and I got out quickly… I’m now in a really healthy relationship (several years together without so much as a bad argument); she is still single and just posting fake lifestyle stuff online. Early warning signs for me were - 1. She made me feel like I was worthless and insane/unreasonable 2. She re-framed everything I said (however innocent or neutral) to an interpretation that I was somehow a psycho or a narcissist myself (she was obviously projecting herself onto me). 3. She was constantly emphasising how I was obsessed with her because she is so beautiful , but never complimented me on anything 4. She had an absent father (seems to have left her at a very early age- this was not her fault obviously) 5. She inappropriately turned nearly every one of our conversations (about anything at all) in dirty sex talk. 6. She was absolutely uninterested in how anyone else felt, but obsessed over her own feelings and how other ppl (particularly me) made her feel. GET OUT EARLY before they exhaust you

Holy freeeaking moly. This conversation was ahhhmazinggg. I listened off & on throughout my day. Great food for deeper thought. I loved every bit of it. The part about Daddy issues. Wow. Mind blown. I have had Daddy issues & I do have an inner child that does come to the surface. She used to cause A LOT of issues in my life... because I was unconcious to her even being within me. I hadn't thought about her until I had hit rock bottom & recognized that my childhood really fucking hurt me. Now my inner child is reassured that she's loved & protected & that this adult human that shares space with her is running the show. My Daddy issues do not come to the bedroom. I'm sure they have at some point in the past... but definitely not anymore.
It's such a bummer there are so many hurt people dating around & hurting people. I feel the best gift someone can give themselves is TIME on their own SINGLE, at least until they've reached a point of feeling really fucking good on their own & they have some clarity around the last relationship. I've been reminded a lot, that actively loving myself requires dedication, compassion, grace, playfulness, & getting back up when I fall into the shadow. Being in a relationship requires the same. I recognize that at this point in my life I do not have capacity to give to another or even to really receive. I have inner work to do.
After watching Richard for a while, I started worrying I was narcissistic. I'm not. I do have narcissistic tendencies depending on many factors. Grateful to hear it is absolutely necessary to have narcissistic traits to survive in this World. I'm grateful for this interview because it brings my awareness to so much. Hearing important aspects of life (Men & Women) discussed by 2 Men from their individual perspectives is wonderful. I really enjoyed this. Thank you. 👍💙✌️

Patience is very important, where i come from they used to say; god love patient people … for example narcissistic person are not patient at all, quite opposit narcissit hate to wait, in my opinion one of the many reason they cheat. Sad but true, fact is i lost trust generally in people … trust nobody 100%

40:00 ‘42 in two weeks and just getting it’ this was so nice to hear as I just celebrated the 42nd birthday & 1 full year of weekly therapy and I feel like I’m exactly where I was five years ago - and added pressure to GET WELL is only amplified because of my age was really wearing on me. To hear someone like you with a similar background to mine say something like that was really feeling today I really needed that thank you. Men are not the only ones that keep their darkest moments bottled up inside. I think maybe man are just better at hiding it because it’s fucking killing me. Slowly every day I get closer and closer to giving up. So many things have been done to me and the worst part is that most of the people that know, think I deserved it in someway. I’m starting to believe them and just feel like giving up

1:41 You’re talking about women not wanting to have sex after a fight and I think you’re talking about a very specific woman that is more in love with you with the suck so I would recommend being very careful about initiating intimacy after fights because you’re gonna start a program that woman to want sex after a fight or start a fight so she can have sex

My ex (woman) I can't confirm is a narcissist but she ticks every single box, not to mention the scenarios you've explained and I've experienced those with her many times, often confused and ending up loosing an argument, feeling guilty and like I'm the bad guy when really she was the one who fucked up and I questioned her, she gaslit me to the point of me believing everything she said, for so long I believed her lies until one day I had enough and couldn't take it anymore I promised myself that I would never believe anything she says again unless the proof is in front of you and I believe I saved myself from years more of potential wasted time with her, it was terribly hard to let go they have such a way of making you hold onto the memory of the good that you can't see the bad
