This was before the film was remastered to include the original sepia-tinted titles and Kansas sequences (by the 1940's, reissues were printed in black and white).

I have the Warner VHS of this where it has a documentary as a bonus feature at the end, it was narrated by the late, great Angela Lansbury (RIP).
And speaking of “The Wizard of Oz”, it was 66 years ago back on November 3rd 1956, “The Wizard of Oz” made its debut on CBS-TV for the first time and it became a household name, and it has been a year-long tradition.

Watch it in 4 K. It's night and day. Quality is insane.

I did recently. It puts all other versions to shame. It’s like a window into a way of making movies that no longer exists.

I didn't expect the movie to be in black and white. I thought the Kansas sequences had the sepia tone format.

@@marvinthemaniac7698 I see. But did the original 1939 premiere release have the B&W or the sepia-tone format? The odds between the premiere release to theatrical reissues and home media re-releases can be intrigued.

Actually, it was released on VHS twice prior to the 1985 issue (in 1980 and 1983)...also, I think the 1988 release had a Turner logo in between the MGM/UA logo and start of the film.

*YOU'RE RIGHT~ WHAT I MEN'T TO SAY WAS THAT THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF ''THE WIZARD OF OZ'' WAS THE BLACK AND WHITE VERSION BEFORE THE SEPIA TONED VERSIONS: THERE WAS ALSO A RELEASE IN 1981 WITH THE SECOND AND LAST ''MGM/CBS HOME VIDEO LOGO'' ON IT! (the one where the ''CBS Video'' logo's jingle then becomes the ''MGM/UA Home Video'' 's jingle on it.) BOTH MGM/CBS RELEASES HAVE ONE OF EACH HOME VIDEO TRAILER FOR THE WIZARD OF OZ~ I CALL THEM ''THE IMAGINE TRAILERS'': DURING THE FIRST RELEASE OF THE WIZARD OF OZ, JOHN LENNON (songwriter for the song ''Imagine'') WAS STILL ALIVE FOR ANOTHER TWO MONTHS!!*
