That line in the song is misunderstood by just about everyone who hears it (including myself). It goes: "Bears, I don't discriminate. I'll take a cub, a chub to circumnavigate." Tom is saying that he doesn't discriminate against heavier set gentlemen, not that the bear community is free of bias.

I'm a biracial afro-european guy and I'm what americans would probably call a jock. Coming out as gay was quite an "adventure" in a black and muslim family, but coming out as a bear-/chub-lover years later proved actually to be even more difficult... and still does. In my social environment people's opinions about beauty and appropriate couple pairing are even more difficult to overcome than their prejudices towards sexual orientation.
Bears are the best. I commend your bravery : )

What a glorious video, Tom! :) I'm teaching a section on communities, kinship, and belonging that features Bear community and Bear culture in an LGBTQI and Gender, Sex Characteristic, Sexuality, and Relationship Diversities (GSRD) psychology course I designed for future therapists and psychological researchers. This semester has been the first pilot of the course. Students from all over the world (especially those in places with less public acceptance such as Italy, Poland, Turkey, etc.) are discovering the emotional authenticity, body positivity, and camaraderie within the Bear community through work like yours featuring real Bears and not heteronormative media stereotypes or misrepresentations. Watching your videos feels like a big bear hug. :) I discovered you recently, while searching for lived experience sources and audiovisual content to complement the articles in my course. I am now a fan of your work and enjoying all of your content, including the video featuring the guys behind the Round In All The Right Places video. I've shared your work with some of my favourite Bears as well. Thank you for sharing the love and showing the wonderful world of Bears, chubs, and cubs to the public. To answer your question, yes this is in D.C. We shot the outdoor scenes in Brookland (a neighborhood in NE). The restaurant is a wonderful Cuban place called "Little Ricky's" on 12th near Monroe St. NE. The dance club scenes were shot at Town Danceboutique in NW, and the bed scenes were shot in the same spot as the bed scenes in "Lover" and "It's All Over" (previous videos).
