I cook my grits in water and a little bit of carnation milk. The milk immediately breaks down the grittiness, making them so smooth and creamy. I sprinkle a taste of salt in them and i butter them when done. Not gonna lie but I absolutely love sweet and salty grits also but i dont add sugar in them bc not everyone likes sweet grits especially if we have waffles and pancakes too.
Just made grits like this for my girlfriend as I didn’t really know what I was doing and all I can say is thank you lol it came out great.
That's the perfect recipe, I add the milk at the very end. Salt, pepper, and butter with some scallions that's all you need. Up north all I can get are cheese grits, not the same.
I dont think my mom or my nana ever made me grits but one time I may think she did and I didn't quite like em lol but I'll ask her my ma to make me some 🤤🤤🤤

I'm a southerner and still here in the south... and grits for me are stone ground and cooked a long time with water/salt then add a bit of milk or cream to make them creamy.
As they are about to finish you sprinkle in a little garlic powder and stir in butter and then top 'em with a generous handful of grated cheddar cheese and some green onions..... YUM!

It’s so lovely to see her on here! She is such a lovely woman. My son went to her daycare from 9 months until 5. She played a huge role with helping me raise my son to be a respectable, loving young man! I could never live up to her cooking. My son would rather eat her food then mines😂. My fam on both sides are from the south (Texas and Louisiana) and grits are always made with butter, pepper, salt, half and half, cheese (usually pepper Jack or cheddar), garlic powder, cayenne, and some crumbled bacon bits or smoked ham bits. They used lard about 2 generations ago but moved away from that to butter. It’s definitely not healthy but It tastes amazing with some eggs.

I’m not going to lie, the first time I had grits was at Waffle House. They were so good, I immediately went home to try to make my own. They have never turned out right 😐
whisk them in as you pour them in and make sure to salt the water! 1/4 cup grits per cup of water. After they cook down and are off the fire, add butter, cream, cheese, whatever you like 😁

I used to cook at waffle house theres no tricks one thing you might wanna do os keep a seperate pot of water simmering just in case the water boils away before there redi they need a lot of water to cook rigl the one thingi can let you in on is that waffle houses grits have three ingredients grits allotta water and a literal metric ton of butter
Boil the water , then put in the grits , not too much , and add salt to the water and when the grits are almost done add butter

Denisha looked so scared of Judith’s grits, and then she got into it, which is what I love, as someone whose a picky eater, I always gotta remember to try things before judging them, although if the smell throws me off, that’s when I have a problem, but I still try 😩

Hey at least you try! So many picky eater won’t! I have 3 in my house lol One thing about smell tho - sometimes food doesn’t taste how it smells! I learned that in the shutdown making homemade Chinese food for the first time!

@@sauersaxon ??? I’m 20, I am a lot more open to trying new things now, that was back when I was younger and had terrible sensory issues because I have Asperger’s, but I’ve learned to cope with it and am now way more open than I used to be when it comes to foods and new textures.
