I just "discovered" this song and imho it is one of the best songs ever done by Iron Butterfly. It sounds so great on a good stereo and I love Erik Brann's voice on this song. Wish more people could hear it.

@❻ • B L V C K ❾ C V L T • ❻ their first comeback album is unlistenable for most people. I love it. It is one of my guilty pleasures. Brownsville Station, Partridge Family, the last BTO album) it is so bad.... it’s good. They use sounds no one can describe what instrument it is? Blocks of wood, an electric carrot. The beating of a sun splashed sidewalk. But two or three songs save that album. ( Scorching Beauty)All I know is that the keyboard??(where) player was so bad, they couldn’t put the title track on the first album. He couldn’t play it!! So they came up with ‘Before You Go’ which turned out to be one of the best songs on the album. Great guys all. This lineup only made two albums, 74-75. Saw them in Jersey and stayed with them for about 18 hours. Saw the original line- up in ‘88. Eric told me all their gear got stolen that night in.’75.. the guy that was with me was a hanger on and a thief. I just hope it wasn’t him. He didn’t feel like talking after he told me that, me either. R.I.P. guys.❤️

@@scottcheney3696 She’s Only Rock & Roll!……. Good for you guys!!!!!!. NYC radio sucks the big one. In the ‘70’s it was about the best, you could here White Witch, Captain Beyond, Gun, Three Man Army, Hawkwind, Necktar, the Original ( and best) Journey! and so much more. Then came the mob, the buying up of all the indie labels, and Corporate Rock! Since then NY. Radio is a joke. ( unless you like to dance, rap, or you listen to the same 100 rocks songs played over and over- classic rock) Only real rock station we have is WSOU, Seton Hall, Pirate Radio. Only problem, half the time they still play the old growling stuff and stupid death metal. No one is playing any Stoner or Psyche. Sucks. My dream is to have a progressive Rock station here in the Tri- state area. Just need a few people that are up on current bands and CAPITAL.

I heard it while driving around Columbia, MO late one night in 1979 on KCOU. Cant remember if that was MIZZOU's station or Stephens College. I fell in love with it and Erik's voice. I called the radio station and they told me it was 'Scorching Beauty' by Iron Butterfly. I found the album entitled 'Scorching Beauty' but it wasnt on that album! I've looked for this song ever since then. Could not find it anywhere, until now. Heavy emotions flood back into my mind. One of their best songs, in my opinion. ❤

KCOU was the university's station. KSHE in St. Louis played Scorching Beauty when it first came out three or so years earlier, and I believe it still does on occasion although I no longer live in the area. The song is actually on Sun and Steel album because--as the story goes--the Iron Butterfly keyboard player at the time could not play the song well enough to include on the album of the same name, "Scorching Beauty".

Scorching beauty, your sun has risen
    Leaving at all to see
If your warmth can touch on anyone
Tell me why can't it touch on me?
    Tell me why!
Clad in lace, maiden love understanding
Morning's mist piercing through your gown
Take me in hand, you make me a man
Makes you wish that love could stick around
I never would go, you know, you know, I can't make it without you
And if you would go, you know, you know, I can't make it without you
I never would go, I never would go, I never would go, my, my, my...

    I can't make it, I can't make it, I can't make it you know
Scorching beauty, my love has been given
Burning your way back into my heart
Working me up to a feverish sigh
Through it all, know I'd be standin' by
I never would go, you know, you know, I can't make it without you

Gorgeous song, one of my favorites from Iron Butterfly. Kinda bittersweet that it’s the last IB song from the last IB album, but it is, as the song says, a “scorching beauty.” And the rest of the album in my opinion is excellent too. It may not have sold diddly back in the day, but at least Iron Butterfly went out on an artistic high with “Sun And Steel,” and this kick-ass final song. 😊

Braun had a limited range vocally. His other notable IB song is Termination, for which his vocals were well suited. His vocal abilities weakened as he got a bit older, perhaps due to his congenital heart condition from which he died quite young.

Eric Braun wrote some great songs, just not enough on his own to fill an album. His earlier contributions to Iron Butterfly in the late 60s were very, very good (Termination and Belda Beast specifically). But without Doug Ingle and the rest of the best lineup Iron Butterfly had there wasn't enough good material to fill an LP. Most of the rest of Sun and Steel and practically all of the album Scorching Beauty sound derivative and like we've all heard the stuff before. However, this song Scorching Beauty is a classic--no doubt about it.

Chicago like a lot of bands had great music in the first half of the 70’s, mainstream but good. Music changed and it turned into a hit 45 market place. Just ask Journey or Grand Funk. From heavy progressive richly to 13 year old girls swooning. That is why Punk and metal’s rebirth in 1980 had to happen. To save rock. Same reason there are so many heavy rock bands now. Thousands of Stoner rock bands and Psychedelic and Doom bands. I can’t keep up and at 65 I don’t want to.

. I just had two Re- releases this year of my ‘80’s metal band, The BEAST! We never released a full length album back then, just an e.p.( Power Metal) on Mutha Records and three songs on Born To Metalize.( Megaforce Records). I now have a full length cd and dvd and a song out on Riding Easy Records. Instead of money , I asked for CDs!! They drove a truck to my house. I now have about 40 new cd’s and the complete ‘Brown Acid’ series. Cool obscure bands from the ‘70’s! Stoner beginnings.I am recording all my old TYRANT songs from the late 70’s. Hopefully that stuff should be out by summer.
