I liked the Delrin; so I used an X-Acto knife to cut multiple slits vertical and horizontal on both sides. Created just enough friction to get rid of the slipperiness.

I,ve sat down twice in the store and tried every pick. Both times I settled on the green Dunlop. I was very pleased to see that you concur; it sort of settles it for me; I bought a whole bag of them and now they're all over the house. I've never broken one, either.

Just want to throw my 2 cents. I've been using dunlop gator grip 2.0 since my guitar journey begins 10 years ago. I'm glad you mentioned Primetone, using 307 large with round tip but it's was a big surprise for me then I tried use the side of this pick. I've immediately feel speed increasing it's so easy now to play fast, without compromising tone. And yes they sound much richer than gators. Just try to do this and let me know. Thanks for video!

"thick picks slow you down"....well that goes against the traditional grain and players such as Angelo Debarre etc....

Maybe everyone does this already...The dinosaur picks are indeed great, but if you prep the pick before you play, they are even better! Just skirt around the outside edge with a nail file to remove some superfluous stuff, and then rub the pick edge against a nail buffer or similar...After you play, the pick will become bevelled, so comfortable for you, but just to get off to a good start, I tend to do this...Like new shoes, new picks are tricky!

regarding the dunlop "wegen". i managed to make quite shallow speed bevel on one of these, polish it to shiny and its the fasted and most confortable pick i own, but i doubt i will be able to duplicate it.

Really fun and informative! thanks. I think someone should have a pick library for players to check out some picks, try them out for a while to decide which ones they like best. I probably have 15 different kinds of picks (spent up to $200) that I tried out but will never use.

How do you guys hold a pick when you play with the side. That is, is the point of the pick ( the part where most people would pick) pointing more towards you or more away from you.. If you know what I mean! PS and did you try holding pick each way?

Really interesting! As a metal player, I find most picks are too ROUND for me. Sharp tips help me gain speed and clarity.

that was really entertaining and useful info, just got a Gitane JJ and realised my big stubby is losing tone, as I dont play pointy end either, but sounds too dull ;) primetime and gator picks ordered :)

Could you explain what you mean by playing on the side of the Pick? Does it mean just slightly away from the point or literally all the way up the side in the upper corner? I'm just a beginner. Thanks
    Thanks

    Great review, guys!
Seems like the “Dunlop Delrin 500 Prime Grip 1.5mm Picks” are basically the Bireli picks but with the grip issue solved, at a slight additional cost. Curious whether you’ve had a chance to try them.

+Christiaan van Hemert Also - I'm no way near your guys' playing level, but I've found I get really nice play-ability from the 2mm Gator if I sand down the pick point so it's round and give it those 'Wegen' angles. Gives it a nice 'bite' and better speed (I think...)

In response to your story about the Wegan Big City... You can reshape the tip of any plastic or nylon pick by using a filing motion with it directly on any carpet. It works unbelievably well. If you try it be careful because you can quickly make a pointy tip too round. You can also make a round tip pointy but always at the expense of length. Do you still stand to those? I have some Guzz picks and love them.
Just bought some Dunlop Gator 1.5mm....let's see.

    • @SaccoBelmonte
      @SaccoBelmonte Před 7 lety

They arrived a couple days ago.
Must say, what a wonderful pick...as standard as it might look.
It's material makes for a MUCH cleaner sound. i was used to the Guzz but I was annoyed by the "cling" sounds they make all the time cause they're made out of a strong shiny plastic. I've asked Guzz to make a new pick with a slightly softer material. Just what I found in these Dunlop picks.
This new one being more "felt" type fiber plastic dampens all that. Wonderful. You only hear the notes being played and nothing else.
Also, it being pointier creates a punchier attack. And also helps your picking, feels like you can play much faster and precise.
Thanks for the advice! love these picks!
