He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Qobyz for that. The Qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the Qobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. In the end of Stranger he introduced him to the audience and he thanked them. As a Kazakh he speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable. As already mentioned, Stranger was written by the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. His and Dimash's collaboration created true masterpieces. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range, such as Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him.The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship. What you just witnessed is Dimash. Pure and simple. He can sing low and then effortlessly move to his mid range and then bring out his hidden soprano and sing way up high to the sky that would rival any full fledged female soprano. He practiced singing the ultimate soprano aria like “Queen of the night” just casually in a stairwell. Thank you for your reaction. Dimash does not do mediocre or just good. He holds himself to the highest standards. He does work hard to hone his instrument. He swims underwater to build his breath. He's like those pearl divers. But when you realize it's not just holding his breath...it's belting out notes and riffs while maintaining quality and consistency....and emotion. His brain itself is a wonder.
Dimash is a complete one off. I think my favourite song is Ikanaide. It is a stunning performance....... no grand production like this one, just Dimash with a microphone in a studio. He sings in Japanese (I believe English subtitles are available) and it's a masterclass! Definately worth a reaction!

That's his cleanest long note, imho. "Stranger" is phenomenal. If you're looking for another superior composition of Igor (and Dimash render) please consider "Your Love".
At the beginning in Stranger it sounds an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello. That and the use of the fa minor key in the composition gives the vibe of Middle East /oriental/ exotic sound. Think he´s singing to migrants in general: "New ground far as I can see, new ground underneath my feet, Stranger in a stranger land, new chance to see who I am if I have the strength to begin again" Reminds me also to the Old Testament; Exodus 2:22 Moses, “And she bore him a son, and he called his name Gershom [that is, A stranger there]; for he said, “I have been a stranger in a strange land.”

It's now 2024 and Dimash still blows me away with his amazing vocals and stage presence. You are scratching the surface of his talent. I have not heard anyone sing like this in all my 68 years. A couple of suggestions for the next couple of selections: Love is Like a Dream, Olimpico and Ave Maria. then you will be prepared for The Story of One Sky.
Although a vocal minority will always push reactors to the vocal acrobatic songs, I think we do Dimash a huge disservice by not recommending his pop songs or his folk songs or more gentle ballads. Dimash is not a one trick pony, he can literally do everything. I strongly recommend listening to: Be With Me (the MV is very funny) When I've Got You Samaltau Ikanaide If I Never Breathe Again Angel Love And the incredible duet he did with Maestro Placido Domingo of The Pearl Fishers Duet
Agree wholeheartedly. Dimash's less acrobatic songs are amazing in their vocal agility and dynamics. Let's not forget Mahabbat Ber Magan (Give Me Love) one of his gorgeous soft romantic Kazakh songs. The one from the Dimash Digital Show 2021 is one of my favorite performances of this song.

Thank you for your reaction. Dimash does not do mediocre or just good. He holds himself to the highest standards. He does work hard to hone his instrument. He swims underwater to build his breath. He's like those pearl divers. But when you realize it's not just holding his breath...it's belting out notes and riffs while maintaining quality and consistency....and emotion. His brain itself is a wonder.

Dimash is a complete one off. I think my favourite song is Ikanaide. It is a stunning performance....... no grand production like this one, just Dimash with a microphone in a studio. He sings in Japanese (I believe English subtitles are available) and it's a masterclass! Definately worth a reaction!

"Stranger" is phenomenal. If you're looking for another superior composition of Igor (and Dimash render) please consider "Your Love".
At the beginning in Stranger it sounds an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello. That and the use of the fa minor key in the composition gives the vibe of Middle East /oriental/ exotic sound.
Think he´s singing to migrants in general: "New ground far as I can see, new ground underneath my feet, Stranger in a stranger land, new chance to see who I am if I have the strength to begin again"
Reminds me also to the Old Testament; Exodus 2:22 Moses, “And she bore him a son, and he called his name Gershom [that is, A stranger there]; for he said, “I have been a stranger in a strange land.”

Great reaction. That's what I said when I first watched Dimash sing SOS back in 2017. I thought I was seeing and hearing things. It's now 2024 and Dimash still blows me away with his amazing vocals and stage presence. You are scratching the surface of his talent. I have not heard anyone sing like this in all my 68 years. Although a vocal minority will always push reactors to the vocal acrobatic songs, I think we do Dimash a huge disservice by not recommending his pop songs or his folk songs or more gentle ballads.

Agree wholeheartedly. Dimash's less acrobatic songs are amazing in their vocal agility and dynamics. Let's not forget Mahabbat Ber Magan (Give Me Love) one of his gorgeous soft romantic Kazakh songs. The one from the Dimash Digital Show 2021 is one of my favorite performances of this song.

Right now, this is one of my favorite songs of his. There are a few others I highly recommend you check out as well: in particular Opera 2 from the Singer show in China, the Diva Dance (specifically the version from the Bastau concert, as that's the best version), Unforgettable Day (specifically from the Gakku concert, as that's where he reaches his famous extreme high note), and Sinful Passion from the Sochi concert. My new favorite song of his is "Ikanaide" from the Tokyo Jazz Festival 2021.
