  • Why Are The Japanese The Healthiest People In The World; Japanese Diet & Food, The Lifestyle & Culture, & What We Experienced Being In Tokyo, Kyoto, & Nagoya
Matcha comes from Japan, a place known for long healthy lives, lots of walking, and a diet that consists of high quality produce & fish. We spent three weeks traveling across Japan to discover what makes the Japanese the healthiest people in the world. If you are traveling to Japan and are able to travel outside of the major cities you'll be able to experience and see a side of Japan that isn't always visible in the major cities.
What we observed on our trip to Japan:
    Food & Diet
    1. "Hara hachi bun" - The Japanese believe the perfect level of fullness during a meal is "80% full" this way you never over eat or over indulge
    2. Diet consists of fresh and unprocessed foods, high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants with a focus on whole foods, and low in saturated fats
    3. Fermented foods like miso, nato (one of our favorites) which benefit your gut health, something that we are all thinking about today
    4. The Japanese also consume less red meat and dairy, which some relate to the more positive health outcomes of the people in the country
    5. A more mindful eating experience, served in small portions, and flexible restraint, enjoy life but try not to over-indulge
    Lifestyle
    1. In Japan physical activity is deeply ingrained in the culture; biking and walking as the primary means of transportation
    2. Emphasis on physical activity extends to the older communities, allowing the aging population to stay active well into there retirement
    3. Meditation and mindfulness exercises are commonly used to reduce stress; these practices allow individuals to focus on the present moment
    4. Japanese tea culture is a cultural practice that emphasizes mindfulness and discipline; helping people cultivate a sense of inner peace

I’m glad I discovered this channel among all those CZcams videos. The way you guys record and the narrative are so soothing and inspiring. I’ll be in Japan in 2025/06 and I’m very excited to know this healthier lifestyle. Hugs from Brazil. 💕🇧🇷

Cool video. It brings up important things like food, diet, physical activity that's integrated to daily living, sense of community. The shinrin-yoku (森林浴) mentioned was interesting too. There was a 2019 National Geographic article written about it. It's a practice as simple as walking around in any natural environment and consciously connecting with what's around you.

I enjoyed this summary and especially the beautiful footage from Japan. I look forward to visiting soon. I suspect the cultural emphasis on attention to detail also plays into the resulting health they experience. When we infuse meaning and gratitude into daily habits, it enhances the quality of both our decisions and our experience of life.

This video is a perfect example of people presenting personal opinion as "fact". Someone already commented on suicide rates....then, there is highest rate of stomach cancer...so much for healthy cuisine. Australian longevity rates, as per WHO are only marginally below Japan, yet lifestyles couldn't be more different. So where is the "truth"

@@NekohamaSometimes it's ok to address the issue instead of being blind by replying such superficial positivity through comments. We can be kind and respectful without ignoring the real issues. Some can be healthy and some can fail to follow the tradition.. it's ok.

Hi😀, Is Nekohama fairly produced and traded? And what does Nekohama do to combat the huge problem of pesticide poisoning, slavery and bad working conditions that dominate world tea trade? It's a reason I only buy 100% organic and fair trade, the people making my tea should have the same rights as I do. Thanks🙋🏼‍♀️🌼

They aren’t really - only some of them are - the rural okinowans (can’t spell it opps). People from Tokyo and the other big cities do not have an unusual average lifespan and exhibit the same western causes of ill health (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc).

Why the Japanese are healthy and live long?
    House wives.
Women making good and healthy food at home.
I wouldn't expect the younger Japanese to keep living to such old ages, like their parents.
