Arriving in Darwin in the wet season and walking out the airport doors is like a 1-2 on the jaw, he was not exaggerating it actually rocks ya 😂
Mate I used to fly back from the UK once a year and would always go via Singapore, Darwin. Back then Darwin airport didn't have the aircon tunnels up to the planes and they just dumped you on the black tarmac and made you walk to the terminal in the sauna heat. It used to hit you like a brick wall as soon as they opened the plane door!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels put into a corner when it comes to using a card, then being charged a fee. I like having the option of using cash or card.
It's not the retailers running the scam, it's VISA and thier paywave contactless fees. They charge shops near to credit card rates for convenience of tapping your card. Absolute joke, costs businesses $1000s of dollars a year. Don't get charged if you swipe or insert the card either. NZ banned the fees during COVID but the banks cranked them back up as soon as they could.

They can’t legally decline cash payment as it’s the legal tender. They can “prefer” electronic payment but not demand it.
It’s putrid if they turn it into a cashless society. Let people have that choice I say

I remember arriving in Darwin for the first time in early Dec 2018. The climate hit me hard!! Looking forward to the upcoming hood content. Hopefully you get to notorious Moulden and Driver in Palmo. Shame the Kurringal Flats in Fannie Bay were demolished in 2015- would've been keen to see them.

The difference I probably think is the system in other countries tries to keep you in prison while in Australia there are government benefits that you can use to keep yourself from relapsing.

Melbourne to Darwin and Darwin to Melbourne is brutal, I've had to fly there 4 times this year alone and usually it's the last flight out at midnight before curfew so you get there at 2am, and then when leaving you fly out at 2am and do an all nighter flight and arrive back home at like 7am. It's fucked but because Darwin has no curfew they set up the flights for ridiculous times so they always have planes in the air making money. Usually they repurpose the Perth planes for Darwin. I've been to the shopping centre in Casuarina (which apparently is a rough place and was in the news for kids rioting), and have also been to Palmerston and I've never felt unsafe there.

Emerald is a small outback town in Central Queensland. Not much to do out here, but we have pubs and cafes and a massive lake that has the best sunset.

Wow that must have been a brutal flight from Brisbane to Darwin in an E190. I can hardly stand being in a 737 for 1 and a bit hours so I couldn't imagine 4 hours in an E190 that's about half the size of a 737.
Drove to Darwin from Sydney through Alice a few times. Two drove up, I did most of the driving and the other bloke didn't tell me my naps was only 40 mins at a time. I started hallucinating near Darwin. Only stopped to fill up and it was in the middle of nowhere and pitch black in the dark.

every airline has their own terminal in their own countries..and the funny thing is that the main terminals dont have any conviniencies for tourists being there if you arrive in different times as most. haha in London I couldnt eat because I had cash and only cc was allowed...the world of travellers is just insane...thats why I love living in Europe all is around the corner. Living as a kid in Australia, all was out of reach

direct flights when its the dry season and tourists everywhere, but its the wet season now so everything goes to Brisbane then separate flights to Sydney and Melbourne
I flew to Darwin directly from Sydney only one week after Spanian was there. There were a couple to choose from. You just get there at a shit time, around midnight that’s all.
