As much as I am a great admirer of Foster Brooks, your statement is not quite true. Another comedian, Tommy Cooper, could also walk on stage, not say a word and still have the crowd in fits of laughter...too. Foster Brooks, however, had a unique talent of wordplay as a drunk, coupled with mannerisms and glances that was so, so funny, that even the great Don Rickles would laugh out loud. Now THAT is a special talent when you can reduce other ‘roasters’ to tears.

Yeah I watched these with my dad too. He loved Foster Brooks. I show him these clips occasionally when I'm home to Ohio to visit him and when he was in Texas a few months last year. I crack up at all of them but especially this and the Sammy Davis and Don Rickles roasts. And it's funny how so many of these comedians were from Ohio-Dean Martin, Phyllis Diller, Jonathan Winters, Paul Lynde, Bob Hope(born in England, raised in Cleveland) And they were funny without feeling they had to cuss.
This is my favorite roast from Foster to Lucy. Quick, clean one liners that leaves them rollin'. I can't help but to smile from ear to ear watching this...
The way Dean receives Foster Brooks when he 'stumbles' to the mic shows they had a great friendship and true admiration for each other, Dean knew this guy was going to put him and everyone else in the dais in stitches and Brooks always delivered, never dissapointed. He was so talented and funny !!! And when he finished his 1-derful act he abandoned his character and turned into the gentleman he undoubtedly was in real life, hugging the honoree with sincere affection, this time he gallantly and respectfully kissed Ms Lucy's hand.
By all accounts, Foster was an extremely kind and humble gentleman, even after becoming famous. On Johnny Carson, he talked with fondness about going back to visit his old friends in Louisville, and the fact he was still the same person.
I've just watched four of these. Roasts of Sammy Davis Jr, Johnny Carson etc and what really stood out the most, not once did he swear. Not once. And it was funnier for it.

This would be Jack Benny’s final appearance as he died on 12/26/1974 and this aired in early 1975. Just some trivia there. Love Foster Brooks. He’s so funny and used to have an annual golf tournament in Louisville Kentucky 😊
My favorite part of the Roast of Lucille Ball was that Desi Arnez was invited, but didn't show. He sent a letter that was pure poetry in his place, read during the event, more or less stating that would have to lie to stand up in front of a crowd and say bad things about her, and that he would "always love Lucy."

Humor with CLASS. When one could still laugh at themselves while bowling over in laughter. Please please bring back that era. 😎
They might have to drop the 'coon' joke. Lol
Lucy’s expression when he calls her “Cherry Head” she seems both surprised and flattered.
Foster Brooks was pure class
Love when Dean looks up at Foster with his eyes bugging out at him laughing!! LOL!!!
Foster Brooks is one hell of a comedian and impressionist... i remember when i was a boy my father will roll out laughing by just watching his act😁🤣🤣😊
Im french but I love it.I had tears and thé ladies were laughing toô...
He calls her "Lassie" and then calls her "Loose" very clever use of her name for jokes! Also a excellent physical comedian
Used to watch these Dean Martin Roasts on Thursday nights at 10.00 on a school night. A bygone era of comedy before the cancel culture got a hold of it. And we'll never see it again. Thanks for uploading and letting us reminisce.
wow i just noticed pieces of Foster Brooks in Christopher Lloyd's "Taxi" character Jim Ignatowski
I have watched this so many times I've lost count, it is brilliant.
i have watched this so many times and i still laugh so much im crying. god bless you for bringing so many memories back with all your uploads. x
+gina cable Thank you for the comment.
I'm with you Gina.Whenever i want to laugh till i cry, this is my go to video..
Well, the Don Rickles videos also...
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
2:20 his joke about the cocoon was outrageous! Brilliant
It's no wonder no one wanted to follow Foster Brooks....
"Remember, Lucy, you shook your pom-poms at me? And she wasn't even a cheerleader!"
He always went last. Then came the Revenge Roast.
Such TALENT on that stage! FAR BETTER than we have today.
R.I.P. to all we have lost along the way. THANK YOU for the Laugh's. You are still Loved & Missed. God Bless.
His humor was funny enough to elicit that full throated laugh from Lucille at 3:50.
Check out Henry Fonda cracking up.. 2:46 Foster was on fire that roast.
Some the best and greatest comedians of all time on that program! Clean humor that is totally lacking in today’s comedians!
No better writing. No better delivery. Even though I've watched this clip several times, it still makes me laugh.
No writing at all.
2:26: "I was the lusty larva and she was the cute cocoon."
2:28: "No offense to the co-colored man on the dais!"
Laughing my head off and seeing this originally, re-reading your quotes...cocoon, OH, Lol, I MUST have gotten that the last few years of watching these clips, my brain just isn't operating at full capacity right at this moment, it just SEEMS like it clicked for the first time when I was reading your quote, but I'm SURE that I've always picked it up...I know I have!!!!!

Halirous
3:31 ... First time I've seen Foster just lose it for a second - you can see he's laughing at Lucille's reaction ...
He was gay.
@@kevinmcdonald951 so was Charles Nelson Riley, and I think not telling me that, as well, is _kinda_ on you
LOVE Foster Brooks. The best!!
Lucille Ball was sheer class.
brilliant! there was no one like her
OMG, I remember these so well. The stuff they got away back then is epic!
"Lassie...Lucy..."
"Loose...that's what the football team used to call her..."
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
"I still got the hots for you, cherry head" LOL
