    I haven’t ridden moto in over 13 years and my last bike was an ‘09 YZ450F. I got to demo the new 450 a couple weekends back. It absolutely blew my mind just how much better these 450’s have gotten over the years. Now my forearms were rock hard on the first lap, but my smile was ear to ear. I’m searching the couch cushions for change so I can pick one of these puppies up soon. The bike is pretty freakin amazing.

      Pull your handlebars back so the ends of the grips are pointing down (when the steering is straight), at least 5 degrees. Seat height got taller, pegs have become taller, and the high bars started out in freestyle, (for trick leg clearance). When you hand are in line with the steering stem, the front end feels twitchy and harder to control as it is harder to keep your elbows up. You will have to adjust your levers back down after you pull the ape hanger back to a rational spot. But you will feel much better entering and going through a corner, and be further back for those long smooth straights. 2nd gear only? You don't feel control of the bike for sure. Having your suspension lowered (if you can't cut the seat, go to Race Tech or Enzo), lowered will help your control in the corner too, and you will then love flat corners, (not have to find a berm). I am 5'9" with a 30" inseam, and the 250mx bikes before the 4-stroke, I could touch the ground on both sides. I lowered by 2019 YZ250 2-stroke, (may be the tallest bike on the planet). 1" in the seat and .75" of the suspension, brought my bars back, and now I have the control I had when racing. I look at amateur YT vids, and we may have had 2 slow kids in corners. But I see tracks full of guys who do not feel comfortable on their tall bike with ape hanger bars.

      To figure out how much to lower your bike, (If I would have done this, I would only have lowered my suspension .5 inches."). Make sure your rear suspension sag is set correctly, and your fork springs are for your weight. Put your boots on and stand magazines equally under each foot until you are touching the ground as much or as little as you want. The magazine stack on one side (both equal in height), is the height you want to lower your bike. you will have the best handling bike on the track or in the woods.

    If this generation does not like bumps and ruts because the 4-stroke made the track too fast, why don't you just pave the tracks and use street tires? It is basically a dirty road race rack with jumps in the middle of the straights.
    For SX, 20 semi trucks can bring in sections of preformed cement, and just rearrange them a bit every weekend just like they do the dirt for the next track. Would save a ton of money in track building. They can color the pavement/cement brown if you want. No ruts, no bumps, just faster speed as MX was meant to be. Right?

    • @troybae245
      @troybae245  Před rokem

      I would prefer if they ripped the tracks deeper tbh. Glen Helen is the only track that has real deformation fs. The street tire thing you’re mentioning is the most retarded thing I’ve heard ina min but I do see your point.

      All this new plastic is "abstract art". Abstract art is meaningless, not even the artist knows what it means. Abstract art does not belong on my functional dirt bike, so I went a bit "Ronnie Mac" on it. I cut the silly arrow tip off the rear fender, cut the long "points" off the shrouds and side panels, and modified a 2014 front YZ fender to bolt on. Today, the bikes are too tall, the bars are set too forward/high, (good for freestyle and SX rhythm sections though), and the plastic looks like it comes from a speed racer/transformer cartoon. This is one irrational future we are entering IMO.
