The heavy crude that would have flown through the pipeline belonged to the Canadian company that intended to sell it and shipping it to China from ports on the Gulf Coast.
Moreover to refine that heavy crude into usable fuel for normal cars requires refineries of a special type that are not abundant in the US.
There is no doubt however that allowing drilling without all sorts of rules that are meant to please the climat change priesthood would be a huge help in alleviating the fuel needs of the county and bring the price at the pump substantially down.
