I’ve seen this scenario many times in real life…. Someone perfectly healthy and going down the tubes so fast because of addiction selling everything they own then dying alone . This gave me the chills as well .
It's pretty much the end result of Mark stealing the videotape. Not saying he inadvertently killed Tommy, just that he started the snowballing toward his death...especially making it a lot worse by giving him his first heroin hit.
Lizzie would have dumped him eventually, and Tommy would’ve started injecting heroin eventually with or without Mark’s influence. Stealing the video was the catalyst rather than the cause.
I don’t think she would have dumped him for the video tape if he hadn’t forget her birthday I mean eventually she would dump him just has fast anyway And he would turn to drugs to cope
It was very wrong to steal the tape. That may have caused the break up, but it was Tommy's decision to start taking heroin + use dirty needles. Yes, he got the heroin from Mark, but so what? He wanted to take it, so he would have bought it anyway from anyone if he couldn't get it from him. Not defending Mark, I think Mark is an asshole like Sick boy, I only like the only one who never did intentionally hurt anyone, Spud.
knowingly Hanging out with heroin addicts is a huge red flag that the individual will try heroin at some point. Their just looking for the reason to. If it was not the breakup it would have been something else.
I always felt that Tommy was destined to become an addict. He was addicted to exercise in the beginning and when he hit a bump in life, he went straight for the heroin. Guy couldn't cope with adversity. Also, notice how that casket is closed. I can only imagine how horrible the body looked after days of rotting and getting gnawed on by a kitten.
I just realized the pastor reading the eulogy says "Tommy had a lust for life" . Of course, "Lust for Life" is the song that opens the film. Another little awesome tidbit.

A horrible, tragic death which HORRIFIED me as I watched as a child in the 90s. The fact that he was the clean cut member of the group and to see the results of his off screen physical decline all at once was something which stuck with me after I watched. It makes me think of all the absurdly young people, withering up and dying in such grisly manners, ostracised, isolated and alienated from society. AIDS has a two pronged assault on a person , one the devastation of an incurable and untreatable (at the time) death sentence but also the lack of sympathy and empathy for its victims who often (at the beginning) young/gay/intravenous drug users of others on the fringes of society. The horrific thing was the youth of these people. Nowadays it’s so different, there is hope, people with hiv/aids live more or less an average lifespan, they can have kids, no longer a risk to infect others , thank the lord for this but it’s imperativeto remember a whole generation of young people all over the world lost their lives so cruelly and often with little or no comfort at the end. God love them all ❤
Everyone likes to blame Lizzy but I blame Renton; the man that stole the sex tape that got him dumped. After this Tommy came to Renton for his first score, he even gave Renton money for it... RIP Tommy :(
@@purpleglitterladette Well Cats are carriers of toxoplasmosis, the disease does not cause any harm to the cat itself but in humans who have very low immunity it is very dangerous. If cats have access to the street and ingest contaminated food such as pigeons, birds, mice etc. they will acquire the disease. If they are raised inside the house without access to the streets and only consume normal cat food, then they will not have the disease.
@sid viciouss Though it was sad and an undeserved death for Tommy, the kitten was a completely innocent creature who was taken in by a drug addict. Since animals and druggies together never ends well, it comes as a relief that the kitten made it through the neglect.
I know, me too. I felt like of all the characters they could have killed off, why Tommy? Just like Spud, Tommy never did anything to anyone. He was a good egg.
Tommy was one of the first speedrunners back in the early 1990s. Renton was still level 2, while Tommy already finished the game along with all sidequests, HIV, abandoned apartment, no friends etc.
Poor Tommy never got over the breakup. I would condemn Renton for stealing the tape which might have subsequently led to the breakup (along with other issues and complications), but then again Tommy made the choice to turn to drugs and ruin his seemingly well structured life.
We pretty much know, Renton stealing the tape led to the break up. We also know that Renton gave him his first hit, although he was high. But renton wasnt high wen he gave tommy money for his last hit.
Renton even try to kick Tommy away with his limp foot when he was slumped over and Tommy was inquiring about heroin. He didn't want to see his friend derelict.
The kitten was fine because it ate tommy. I’ve read that if you die around a dog, in most cases it would sooner starve than eat you, a cat will barely wait a day before it tucks in. Usually starting on the face.
we created both dogs and cats through genetic engineering, but in the case of dogs, we spent a lot more time focusing on making them love humans than cats, probably because the ancestors of cats were nowhere near as dangerous as the wolves from which we created dogs.
I'm glad the kitten was fine, but I hope he found a better home somewhere. It's a very minor thing about the movie to worry about I know, but my heart grieves for the poor little creature.
Tommy will not survive winter in West Granton. Poor bastard, from a clean living sportsman, to a lamb to the slaughter. And all it took was a broken heart. A serious cautionary tale.
So Renton steals the videotape of him and Lizzie, she finds out it’s gone breaks up with him leading Tommy to want to score smack due to Rentons influence in the past leading to Tommy become an addict as well leading to his death. That is some crazy ironic writing
Everyone chill tf out about the cat, ffs. The film was shot in 1995. The actual cat is probably dead by now(not unheard of for cats to live to 25/26, I know but). Just make a happy ending up in your head, then go for a walk or something.

Because he was immunocomprimised likely from some infected needle, living in squalor which also weaked his system.... he got that infection in his head and it gave him a stroke.. and he was the healthiest among them all.
Damn the cat shit germs got Tommy. He probably caught something with the needles weakening his immune system, didn't take care of the cat or himself and his house literally went to shit and cat probably scratched him with it's poop caked paws...
