  • Pain is designed to get our attention. But how we respond to chronic pain will determine how long it sticks around.

    Your videos are a life saver. When symptoms start appearing I used to re-listen or re-read Sarno and that would rarely work to calm my symptoms. Your videos melt the symptoms a way. Please keep making videos they help me have a life worth living!

    This video brought greater clarity to something I had already realized. I have a child with special needs. He was quite sick when he was younger and low muscle tone so not the same strength of other children. I watched him like a hawk and surveyed every moment looking for potential danger in order to protect him. I protected him well but it was bad for my nervous system that became hyper hyper vigilant. Dan when you mentioned about how a parent responds is how the child responds and we in essence are doing that for ourselves it totally clicked in my brain that I am responding to EVERYTHING in my life in the hyper vigilant manner I developed to protect my son(looking back I probably didn’t need to be so hyper vigilant. I know from personality traits and other life circumstances I was already primed to be that way.) I will be saving this one to listen to regularly and will work to retrain the “parent” part of me to be more calm to the “child” in me. Thank you for the videos.

    Moving towards indifference, that is the key word, moving. Gold standard anything doesn't happen overnight....it takes repeated action towards it. Iam writing this from bed as I can't sleep because of pain but at least I found this video and my concentration is on it. Pain is still there but for whatever reason I am not freaking out( maybe just don't have energy for that any more) but at least I feel it's a move in right direction.

    What about when the spirit of soul gives up Dan?
    I find myself at my lowest darkness for some years.The point where you realise you can't beat the unimaginable.Trust is shattered & with it goes Hope & any(ironically) breath left to fight.
    Let me explain,you know I visited the Hospital with shortness of breath recently.This is where we put our trust & faith in those there to diagnose & treat.After extensive tests & more importantly the chest x-ray & chest CT scan which both showed lung irregularities which the Doctor was under no doubt with his diagnosis of Covid 19..I was tested & told the results would be available in 48 hrs,they weren't it took 7 days but to be honest there was a elation of spirit to actually have a diagnosis of something, anything to hang on! To feel normal like most people do when they seek treatment.Find out what's wrong & get treatment.
    In the meantime waiting for my results & I think you can preempt what's going to happen there! I've lay in bed for nearly a week because anything else is practically untenable, anything more than being horizontal or sitting I can't function,I'm gasping for breath just walking from one room to another.I can no longer walk the dog or do anything physical.I finally tracked down my test results today & yes you guessed it negative.
    I'm supposing in modern medicine today there is no way on two separate tests that one could have a dirty screen & a CT scanner that could have misconstrued dust for lung irregularities.The point being I trust in the The Doctors diagnosis first & foremost,he was thorough,diligent & went above & beyond compared to most of my abysmal experiences with Doctors plus Anxiety as far as I know can't influence two separate chest x-rays so these stand as fact.Anyone can see me physically gasping for breath...Fact.
    But imagine in this situation carrying all you're other TMS pains,you're Trust in the NHS,trust in those meant to help totally eroded in bewilderment,trust in anyone fades & inevitably the spirit curls up & is swallowed by the darkness.
    Even my loving supporting long suffering partner actually uttered the word"Anxiety"within minutes of the negative test result.Can you imagine the solitude of this,it's crushing to think that no one believes you,you're making it up, you're lying & for God's knows what sadistic purpose?? I don't know what answers I'm looking for here Dan,I think I'm purely venting the madness I feel.
    Covid test results are notoriously fickle in the UK if not the world.People have been diagnosed positive who have never even had a test.Tested Positive when Negative & visa versa.....What little I've read there's a simple formula when it comes to covid 19 & tests! Follow the science of what you're body is telling you not the test result because that can change day to day.
    Thankfully watching you're videos doesn't exert the lungs so I still watch daily to have the comfort of you're wisdom with me though I have made a effort of trying to spare you these monolithic scriptures of comments I'm sure you've dearly missed.Keep up the Great work Dan,even in dire circumstances like I find myself in the Wisdom always shines a beacon in the darkness🙏🤞🌱

    thanks dan! i love the child falling analogy. i always used to wait to see if my son would freak out after falling. because you’re absolutely right most of the times it’s nothing. i really needed these reminders because i’m experiencing a dip right now. (i prefer dip to flare!) i can’t always have a mindset of indifference but i like the reassurance idea. you are right symptoms are impossible to ignore i was just getting one strange pain while i was watching. so i said, ahh i see you. but it’s ok. i’ve got this and it literally went away. going to practice that reassuring talk today. thanks again!

    Think Alan Gordon at USC takes "indifference" to the next level, to an attitude of "outcome independence" to your pain.

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  Před 3 lety +1

      I speak of outcome independence but that is slightly different. Outcome independence means you will do a certain practice without needing an outcome. Indifference is literally showing no concern whether you have pain or not. They are similar but different things.

      @@PainFreeYou thanks Dan, last two years working out was my savior it was like I would enter the gym lift weights and do things and pain/sensations would vanish slowly this year somehow maybe cause of tooo much reading and diving into TMS and anxiety or fear even gym doesn’t turn it off like it used to which makes me frustrated cause working out has always been my thing and love being fit since I’m an actor in LA. I’m starting to understand that TMS can be watered down to just being anxiety? It’s the anxiety about work life stress and mainly the sensations themselves that keeps this cycle going? Also doesn’t help that I picked up on a bunch of conditioned responses to different clothes took a year to knock em down with my PT got comfy in eveything and then 2020 and boom all fear of different clothing’s are back 😩

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  Před 2 lety

      This program is not a medical treatment to cure a viral infection. However, many symptoms are blamed on a prior virus incorrectly. The best bet is to evaluate your symptoms and see if they fit into the classification of TMS. I have two assessments on my start page that will help you figure out if this approach will help you or not. www.PainFreeYou.com/start - if it indicates TMS, then you can get well.

      @@PainFreeYou Good question. In this question you say from something else.. In your video, in contrast, you begin saying from chronic pain … .. I find your videos and overall your facial expressions and smiles and ways of speaking naive and offensive … I have long term chronic pain but I don’t call it mind body pain . How I deal with it for 10 years? I have my personal ways. And with them I have done all my life independently and have become a tenured academic. But I would never give recommendations and especially such facial expressions to others minimising their pain ,like take it easy, breathe, etc. I would shut up my mouth and hold their hands and understand them than underestimating their situation and that their pain isn’t going to kill them etc! If pain did one thing to me was understanding everyone else and being more compassionate than judging them and making recommendations without knowing maybe their situation is something beyond my understanding and experiences. But obviously it hasn’t done to you.
