    Aside from everything else good about Jon Stewart, is that he may well have helped millions of people to become better media critics themselves in terms of seeing through the lies and spin of the mainstream and cable news networks with a keenly humorous eye.

And because of course your tribe is the pure tribe, they must be sick. Is that what's going on? That's what it sounds like but please, correct me if I'm wrong.

He's not quite yet as seasoned as Stewart, but he is well on his way!

    • @naxT890

      Samantha Bee is just a comedian who creates jokes about anyone who hurts the democratic party. She is a establishment prick who just defends anything democrats do.
      Jon stewart is more critical of both sides and call out bullshit as he sees it.

    • @shielste
      @shielste Před 7 lety +5

      Except Samantha Bee is known to be just as honest and critical against Dems and Hilary as she is against Republicans and Trump. It only appears to be one-sided nowadays because one of them is the President and one is sitting at home on the couch. She bashes the democrats and their voting base (or lack of voting base) all the time.

      PrincessTS01 Jimmy Dore? Maybe once upon a time, but no more.. I really like Jimmy, but he has lost his objectivity, humor and unfortunately, credibility over his white hot hatred of Hillary Clinton and the DNC. He can't entertain any information which doesn't support his early determination that the only reason Clinton lost was because she was the worst thing to ever happen, period.
      And she was terrible.. and the dnc o
      Is still fucked.. but for example, he won't entertain any information which suggests Russia interfered because it's not perfectly conducive with his anti-dnc/Hillary narrative. Somebody like that can't keep people honest because he can't keep himself honest. Again, love the guy, but he's lost his objectivity - he's made up his mind about everything, and he judges new information by whether or not it matches his existing belief system - not by whether it matches reality.

    I don't have a problem with commentators on the left or the right, who state their viewpoints explicitly and then try to defend those viewpoints. Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Rush Limbaugh and their ilk all have their faults, but they approach debate in an honest manner. That would include O'Reilly, even though he interrupts and is rude and occasionally namecalls. Stewart's comedy, in contrast, always begins with a Strawman Argument of his ideological opponent's viewpoint, which he then proceeds to bash with an Appeal to Ridicule, and then top off with an Ad Hominem attack. His show is funny, he;s a great entertainer, but he also is a propagandist in the truest sense of the world, and he does a great disservice to our democracy

    Is liberalism “smug”? In an essay for Vox, Emmett Rensin says yes. “There is a smug style in American liberalism,” he writes. “It has been growing these past decades. It is a way of conducting politics, predicated on the belief that American life is not divided by moral difference or policy divergence … but by the failure of half the country to know what’s good for them.”
    This “smug style” is informed by programs like The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and its offshoots, The Colbert Report and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. It manifests on Twitter and Facebook, in tweets and status updates and displays of liberal arrogance. It’s present in how liberals talked about figures like Kim Davis, how they relate to people who disagree with them, in public and private.

    You realize that this is exactly what John Stewart would have made fun of CNN for.

    Jon's retirement literally led to the collapse of late night, they had every reason to be concerned. Now you have Colbert, Oliver, and Noah just cussing and making immature (sexual) jokes about Trump and co. There's no attempt at humor, it's just militant 'liberal' politically-correct bullshit! They summed it up perfectly, Jon Stewart's liberalism was a critique on society and a haven for progressiveness. Now the only way to keep Fox in check is to act like a butthurt middle schooler on late night 'comedy'.
