The Artificial Minstrels - Fountain of Youth [The Caribbean Tales]

Fountain of Youth: Spanish explorer and conquistador Juan Ponce de León led two expeditions to Florida, in 1513 and 1521. Later tradition claimed his aim was to find the Fountain of Youth, but this motive has no basis in reality. His true goal was wealth and the expansion of the Spanish empire, yet the second expedition met with failure. Ponce de León didn't succumb to illness in 1524 as the song suggests for poetic effect, but rather in July 1521, after being fatally wounded in a skirmish with the natives of Florida.
