Verlon is my latest ‘favorite’ guitarist...I want to play like this...emotive...heartfelt...great technique of course, but so much more...thank you to Guy Clark (RIP) for sharing Verlon with us all those years on all those recordings...
Vernon is not just a good guitar player really he's a well oiled precession machine. He's text book and the epitome of what a true guitar picker should be. Very rare and there has only been a small handful of pickers like him ever and who knows if there will ever more or if he's one of the last of a rare dying breed. Thank you Vernon, thank you for showing myself and the world what a real picker is.
I can't help but think we all have a guitar case full of our favorite musicians to numerous to list. And we hesitate to place anyone individual on a pedestal lest they fall. Tommy Emmanuel is one who i have long held as untouchable for talent & humility on my biased " all time best"list. So tonight having worked a 12 hr. shift for 8 hrs. pay...i stumble on this Verlon Thompson video. I laugh...cry...& suck wind ...at all of the traits that make up this magician. For an hour + i forgot about noise...traffic...crooked politicians..crime...poverty & just let his voice & strings heal my soul. And then i dusted off another pedestal for a new hero. Thank you nashfunkvids for sharing this treasure with us.

This man is the real deal. Does anyone know what brand of guitar he is playing? The tone is unbelievable. Also his voice and just great story songs. I Need More Time is as beautiful of a live song as I have ever heard. I need more.

I have searched and searched, but I cannot find a recording (other than this one) of Verlon playing the song that starts around the 37:53 mark. I’m guessing it’s called “There Was A Time” or “Mary Was Mine” or something such as that. Does anyone know if he has recorded this song? I don’t see it on any of his albums, either...
