Here i go over the mpc one and mpc live 2 keygroups and how to set up keygroups with your mpc tutorial. I mainly use key groups when i want to sample a record into the mpc and use a small bass hit as my very own melodic instrument. I would challenge you to incorporate some sample keygroups on the mpc on top of your lofi sample based boombap production on the mpc.

Iâm learning the MPC culture with the MPC Studio and MPK Mini 3. Learning something new in every video.
Learning so much about my MPC with your videos. Thank you. đđ»
Excellent presentation , I really needed to learn this key groups technique as I am fumbling along on learning MPC Live 2 . Thanks again.
This was so helpful! I just got an MPC Key 37 and need more helpful material like this...nicely explained with a real world example! đ€
Many thanks Malo! You are the best mpc teacher in da place!
This means a lot brother, thank you so much for dropping by. Blessings to you
Such clear content bro, thank you!!
Facts!!! I love Air Flavor. I put that ***** on everything now LOL. The new update definitely makes it super easy to make key groups and quickly make key groups off a sample chop.
Great video ! And the Mavis is a very good choice for a nice bass.
Also, man you are going to LOVE the autosampler in there. It wil actually automatically sample whatever external synth you have and create a keygroup with the sampled notes.
Takes a couple of minutes and then you can focus on sound design !
Malo dropping more gemsđ„đ„đ„ Akai is King!!
Learned so much from this. Thanks!
Thank you so much for dropping by, Iâm glad it was helpful. Blessings to you
Thank you!
Great video bro! Keep up the great work đ

Iâm just learning about keygroup hoping you make more on this subject
Sounded better tuned before you mess with micro tuneâŠ. Maybe thatâs just me

Didnât know it was that simple. Iâve been using 16 levĂ©s as well.
Nice tips! For case like you show, where the source is a midi-capable instrument, try the auto sampler. Is one of the most amazing features of these modern mpcs.
Iâve got my MPK Play linked to the One, this is a good tip! Def gonnaâ dig into this! Thanks Thiago!
Good tutorial, but you did put the bass super flat in comparison to the backing loop. :) It was very close in the first place.
The Pete Rock style

Thank you. Great little tutorial on keygroups, and answered my question for me right at the end - why not use 16 levels? Grid edit. Gotya!

You could also use auto sampler instead which is better because you can have your moog synth in your MPC đđđœ
Hey Malo, i have the Moog Werkstatt-01 and i do the same thing...lol...awesome video as usual...
Thatâs awesome, I definitely get a different experience when I sample from these hardware synthesizers versus using a VST.
@@malobeats yeah and with keygroups its like you have infinite instruments on tap. I have been doing this for a long time and it really shines with 808s but you can make cool synth sounds as well..
Man, this is awesome Malo. Youâre a great instructor, brother. If I need to know something quickly that will get me where I need to be, especially just really digging into learning the One, yours is the only channel Iâm hitting. Thank you for your hard work and willingness, fam! Peace and love!
Nate, this hits deep and thank you so much for taking the time and hanging out with me on this video and sharing your feedback. I really appreciate your support brother nothing but love and blessings to you.
How you liking the mavis? I been thinking about it. Trying to get them neo soul/dilla sounding bass tones but not having any luck with the built-in plug-ins
Awesome video Malo! That said, Moog is pronounced âmow-gâ, as in mow your grass, not âmoo-gâ as in a cow. #synth_purist đ
Hahahahahahaha this is hilarious đ, Iâm so glad you popped in with this. Iâm hear reading your message out load pronouncing it as if i am in English class hahahah jk. Thank you for this
Thanks for the vid! How do you know when to use key groups vs pad perform vs 16 level when creating a bass line that matches the beat?
Iâd say keygroups comes in handy when you want to play multiple instruments/sounds with a midikeyboard. Like playing the bassline with the left hand while playing a lead or chords with the right hand.
Question! Ive installed the the MPC Software to my win PC. Using a 3rd party vst instrument, I can not figure out how to set the pads to not play chords so I can use my Native Battery sample kits. I don't know if you know what Battery is basically its a vst that has 16 pads and you apply what every instrument you want to each pads. And the MPC keeps playing chords/multiple pads when I hit just one pad. For example it will pad 1-3-5 at the same time. Any help would be appreciated. I can find any info on this. Probably because I have no clue how to ask this question in short terms
Prob need to take it off of chord mode
Are you running the Mavis in the phono or line? When I run it in at line level itâs way to quiet.
Well done as always! Is this feature available only with the new 2.11?
Yes and no, youâre always able to do key groups before 2. 11 but it was a bit more complex but the way Iâm showing how to do it in this video is only available for 2. 11
@@malobeats thanks. I really appreciate what you are doing! Great stuff
Hell yeah, this video helped a lot. Thank you. Unrelated question, but related. When I try to use just one sample out of an expansion pack, I get an error message saying, sample exists, and I can either replace it, or cancel. Am I not able to use just one Lil sample from a pack? Is it a workflow issue I'm doing?
Load the sample into another program
Hi Malo. Thanks for this video. I'd better understand the difference between Keygroup and use 16level. I've got a question. Once you have a keygroup, can you use the note section to define scale, or chord or key (Gmin for example ;^) with the program of your keygroup ? Thanks again for all your tips and explanations about MPC. Take Care.
Hey David, thatâs a great question and Iâm glad you asked. To answer your question, yes you absolutely can change different scales and how you want them to perform in the settings page but I didnât go over that in this video. I might have to do another video showing that part of the key groups
@@malobeats Thanks for your answer. So, that's a big difference with the 16 level.
Can you take a few samples at say octave intervals to have a more accurate representation of the sampled synth ?
Such a grate question and yes you can. Thereâs so much more you can do that I did not touch up in this video
@@malobeats ah cool ill look into it, just checking it was an option before going on the quest đđ€
Great Video , Can you do a Keygroup Assignment Video Sampling a Sound etc , then Play the sound from a MIDI ControllerâŠ. On Black and White Keys
And Show how to Spread a 808 drum Sound on a Keyboard Bed.. To create different Velocities options!
How do add HD Effects on a Sample , Reverb on Drums , Also how do Layer
Drum pads .. Example.. Upon hitting Pad 1 it also Trigger Pad 2 and 3 simultaneously!
Last Question Whatâs the Largest Size SD card the MPC will recognize?
I own Several Keyboard I need to learn how to Sample a Single Note Example Middle C ⊠Save it on my MPC live 2
Which I purchased Last Month , From there Create a Keygroup , save it! , Then Play that Sound on my Portable MIDI ControllerâŠ. In a Live setting!
No more Labtop, MPC and a MIDI controllerâŠ. Only ⊠Please help me Blessings
@@Phrozen716use auto sample feature for that
Is it possibile to take a sample and then chromatically play it, but in a certain scale? Thanks
Use the auto sample feature
Can someone help me out? I know how to create a keygroup from any 1 sample. I also know how to autosample via midi & audio cables. What if I have just TWO different WAV files for an external synth...the C2 note on one and C3 note on the other? I thought maybe create a keygroup from the C2 sample and then add C3 as layer 2 in Program Edit but that doesn't work because I don't want C2 and C3 to play at the same time.
When you create a keygroup from 1 sample, MPC pitches it up and down to make a keygroup. I want my C2 WAV to cover the C2 - C3 octave and then the C3 WAV to cover the C3 - C4 octave. I don't need below C2 or above C4.
So what do I do? How do I start? I can't find 1 YT video that shows this but it has to be possible! What is the correct way to take 2 different notes (1 wav file each) to create a good sounding keygroup? I know I can just create a keygroup from 1 of the notes but I have to believe that adding the 2nd note (or more) will give a better sound. If anyone can walk me through it step by step I'd really appreciate it!
What flavour does air taste like?
Has to be vanilla . Lol

Why assign the sample to a drum program then convert it to a keygroup? You could have just created a keygroup and assigned the sample to it.. doing it your way, You now have 2 programs .
The convert to keygroup function is more for existing drum programs.
Thatâs awesome brother, thank you for dropping by with this input. đđœ
@@malobeats another useful use of this convert to keygroup function would be to create a drum program filled with 128 different synth samples. When this is loaded you can easily audition the samples and quickly create keygroups.
@@wul01 Iâm pining this to the top, this is helpful, thank you for taking the time and sharing this input đđœđđœđđœ
Dont pin stuff that differentiates from the video!! its confusing
@@FruiceProduces I apreciate this input and this is a different way of creating the key groups but either way still works fine. Just wanted to share different options as well. Thank you for dropping by and letting us know with this. Blessings to you đđœ
You didnât show how to put it in key
Anyone else slice to pad acting up since the updated?
Are you talking about when youâre in manual slice mode in the sample editor page? Iâve been having issues when Iâm manual chopping but I found a minor work around for the meanwhile check out my previous video called sampling advanced and there I go through that minor bug that I think youâre talking about.
@@malobeats No Iâm talking about when you slice directly to the pads with incoming audio .. Before it used to indicate your first chop on pad 1 once the sample goes pass threshold now it doesnât
@@pushsantana I noticed this too. Itâs been leaving my trigger pad / pad 1 with a blank chop. Is this whatâs happening on your end as well?
@@natethegreat80 yup same problem
Itâs pronounced âmoogâ not âmoogâ
