The original version of "Everlasting Love" was recorded in Nashville by Robert Knight, whose producers/writers Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden aimed to record him in a Motown style. Ultimately "Everlasting Love" was released as an A-side for Knight and reached #13 in 1967. Subsequently, the song has reached the US Top 40 three times, most successfully by Carl Carlton, who peaked at #6 in 1974. Carl Carlton is an American artist who sings R&B, soul and funk. Born in Detroit, Michigan on May 21 in 1953, he started his career during the 1960s when he was still a kid. In 1968, he signed a contract with Back Beat Records, after which he moved to Texas.. In the early 70’s music era he achieved his biggest hit with “Everlasting Love” which became a Top 10 pop hit single and oldies music classic.
Presenter of Soul Train: Donald Cortez (Don) Cornelius (Chicago (Illinois), September 27, 1936 - Sherman Oaks (California), died: February 1, 2012). Cornelius was found dead in his Los Angeles home at the age of 75. The presenter was found to have succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head as a result of a suicide attempt.

I don't know.....David Ruffin? He brings a certain intense emotionality to it, with the deeper voice as well and the inflections. They're both fantastic of course.
@@silvas123 I absolutely LOVE me some David Ruffin, but I think his voice on his version is too emotional & raspy, and I dont think his voice works with the melody of his version. He sounds wonderful (as always) but it wasnt a good fit.

That’s correct, July 15, 2019 Carl Carlton was hospitalized in Detroit after reportedly suffering a stroke. The stroke caused the 66 year old Carlton to miss a planned concert in Detroit the night before. Fortunately, he is reportedly alert and speaking. All the best, Carl!

First time I ever heard this song (sung by Carl Carlton) was when I was driving in my car and the car radio was on. LOVED IT! Every time it would come on the radio I would 100% enjoy listening to it. Now I have this video that I can enjoy anytime I want. I've watched on CZcams different interpretations from various artists, famous and not so famous, and my very favorite is Carl Carlton. Watching him perform this song just confirms it for me!!

The song was one of several disco tunes that was part of a 'disco hits' collection LP. Great song, one I've not forgotten, and an interesting mix of pop, rock and disco.
