With regards to the Pentax 67 focussing distance, you’re right…but I just use the extension tube when I know I need it. Easy fix

To be fair, most of my cameras are being traded all of the time. I only really keep one main camera at the moment. I’ve just moved onto the Nikon F100!
I just finished reconditioning my Pentax Spotamatic i had to put new light Seals in the camera i oerfer to use my Minolta light meter over the Spotamatic light meter
Good video and, as you say, there’s so many cameras out there it’s impossible to recommend just one. That said, for the max budget slr/rangefinder I’m surprised Leica didn’t get a mention, either a rangefinder like the M6 or an slr such as the R6. For medium format, my best camera was the Mamiya 7. I now have one of the Zeiss Ikon folders from the 1950s; quality is not great but it looks cool!
Of course Leicas are great but I’ve never used any of them so I’d fine it hard to give a proper recommendation. I feel like Leicas are generally really inaccessible so as much as it was the ‘break the bank’ purchase, I still think the Contax is something people can actually afford.
Again I haven’t used the Mamiya 7 but I know it’s really good. I can’t remember but I think someone else had an issue with focusing distances for the 7, I could be wrong though!
@@maxkent Fair point. Contaxes are amazing cameras and it’s a great recommendation. The Mamiya 7 is probably the same as the Pentax at about 1m and, being a rangefinder it has worse viewer alignment issues. I never found it an issue though as 120 has so much room to crop. Yes, you don’t get that close focus look but if that was important I’d just use my slr or digital camera

How good is Yashica mf 2 super
I have Me Super, small and convenient palm-sized camera. I like Pentax lenses. I also have a Zenit-e (m42-mount), so I have Takumar and soviet lenses like Mir or Helios in my arsenal, which I use with adapter for Pentax. Its cheap but quality. For the medium format, how about the Pentacon Six or Kiev-60?
There are definitely some good shouts for the cheap medium format camera but I haven’t used either of them. I guess technically the Holga is a budget medium format haha!

Hey mate, this might sound really dumb to ask but this is a film camera so I'm trying to figure out how did you get all your shots on the computer? Did you have to physically scan your film or do these cameras have some kind of image transfer via some cable? I want to get into this type of photography but very new to it
You take your film to a development lab and they usually scan your film and send you the digital files as well as giving you the negatives back 👍
Some of the the later canons could be an equivalent for the f6!
@09:50 you said the pentax 67 had 1 meter minimum focus distance but that is not correct. Add the extension tubes & you can go very close. Some like Barney Arthur shoot that way. Search up his work on youtube. As for the cost, that is what the version ii costs, not the original pentax with older lenses. No need to buy latest. And in the Nikon F6 video you showed the F5. The F5 is better but heavier & bigger. Canon 1n & 1v are just as good. No need to buy an F6 unless you prefer Nikon & need a smaller camera than F5.

£1800 for pentax 6x7 ?? Do you mean the 67II? Cause you can easily find 6x7 MLU/67 with the legendary 105/2.4 for under $1000
Yea. I noticed a lot of prices were quite off. I wonder if the prices where he lives are way different than in the west. I also have a Pentax 67 and didn’t pay anywhere near that (on eBay of all places)
To be fair, my pricing for the 67 comes from buying my own + a 90mm, 75mm and 200mm. Of course prices vary and you can technically buy a lot of the cameras for less from Japan but then you’ve gotta pay more for import fees.
Understandably it’ll be different in different countries too 👍
Damn pricing in the west is really high. I got my 6x7 MLU, 105/2.4, 75/4.5, 90/2.8 LS, and 135/4.5 for well under 1k. I guess it also depends on the condition, taxes and shipping.
@@maxkent tbh as long as you got a good condition set it’s worth it, that 200mm is a really solid and fairly affordable. It became my second favourite lens in the system.
Out of the lens I own my top 3 faves are
1:45mm(I love the wild fov and it’s wonderful for 35mm ultra wide shots)
2:200mm(probably my favourite tight portrait lens, it’s surprisingly sharp as and the built in hood is so clutch to have)
3: 105mm(great all around lens and even stopped down a bit it still has a wonderful pop. My only downside is nailing critical focus on anything inanimate is quite hard, but the results when nailed are worth it)
@@sneakingelephant For the 200/f4, it depends on which version you have. They changed the design from takumar 6x7 ver to the 67 version. It's significantly sharper, improved contrast, and less prone to CA.
