I agree. Obviously we haven't seen anything from him but I think he'll very quickly become our starting right back. This is a young player that's already played in the champions league. All depends on how quickly he adapts but I'd back him to do so quickly.

I still think that there is a lot of work to do yet before we have a fully balanced squad that covers all positions. As we normally play with a double pivot in midfield; one stays deep (Kamara), while the can bomb on (Douglas Luiz), as and when possible. Now with Douglas Luiz going, his place could be filled by Tielemans, McGinn or Barkley, but I don't think being that deep really suits any of them. Even more concerning is that Kamara won't be back until late autumn at the earliest, and we just don't have cover for this position, because Dendoncker isn't up to it, and is Barrenechea really good enough? We desperately need to cover these two positions much better than we currently can. Right-back is also an issue because Cash is the only senior player we have there (I think Konsa is wasted here), and he might not be around for much longer. Backup goalkeeper is another concern. We all know that Olsen just isn't good enough, and all the others are young and untested. And then there's the question mark hanging over Durán. So to complete the squad I think that we still might well need another four or five. PSR doesn't go away, so we'll have to sell as well: Chambers, Hause, Dendoncker, and Archer would be obvious candidates; with one of Digne or Moreno also seemingly not needed now.

For me going through that visually suggests we won't get another midfielder...I can see more pressure on Tielemens being the man and it explains why he joined as villa envisioned Luiz needing to be moved on. Tielemens has been very durable and I think realistically McGinn is going to have to slot into CM like he did last year despite it not being his best position. I also think Barkley will play a lot of games. Unfortunately due to the rules I can't see a marquee CM coming in purely due to the numbers. The other option is maybe Buendia doesn't make the champs squad for the first half.

Keep in mind Unai loves versatile players in his squad. Cash will be a part of this squad. Kosta didn't do real well in 3 of his 4 CL matches, including an own goal. He isn't ready for the PL. Duran wants out, Villa will oblige. Expect a Baena, a new striker, and a 2nd RB/CB to replace Carlos. Kayode would be very nice, but let's see.
Is there a scenario where Archer stays to help champions league home grown players quotas? Duran is potentially on his way to Chelsea, and Archer’s value can’t be strong after a disappointing season with a terrible Sheffield United. Second question: is there a former academy player (other than Jack) that could be a realistic option to resign to help with the champions league home grown quota?
Great depth. I think we need to desperately upgrade Olsen and get a better number 2 as we have to alter our whole style of play when Olsen is playing. I think after that a new RB & a CM and then we’re set for a very exciting season. UTV.
For me I think it'll be ideal if we can get rid of Cash Duran chambers & Carlos..that would bring in give or take a few million here or there getting on for around 70 odd million which would let us replace those four with say three better players..then I think we can keep Digne as he has lots of experience which we're going to need this season..overall though it's looking great isn't it and remember the champions league money that'll go onto villa's books won't come in until next season so even without that money atm we're looking strong ..UTV

We should be taking Trippier from Newcastle for 7.5 mil for one season and Ciro Immobile to provide real competition for Watkins. The Watkins love in and his status as by far amd away undisputed number one striker is no good. If hes not on his toes, which he cant be, next season, we will suffer.

I think the solution to the squad numbers and any future PSR issues is Ramsey leaving.
