    I'm glad you made this video. Amar'e was DEFINITELY one of the best players of the 2000's. I loved watching him play in Phoenix with Steve Nash. He use to bang out on people all the time and had great energy. His decline started with that eye energy that he suffered.

  • @Nelekets
    @Nelekets Před 4 lety +7

    I think one people forget about him, is that he was amazing from the low post, and the high post going one on one. His face up game was second to none when he was in his prime. The way he attacked the rim in those situations was what made him amazing.
    That often gets forgotten or overshadowed by him playing the pick and roll with nash.. or just dunk highlights, but the man was a beast in the post. One of the best contact finishers I've ever seen back when he played with the Suns.

      Very smooth jumper and great touch around the basket.
      He was one of the Hakeem disciples that actually utilized the moves he learned properly.
      He was even smoother than Lebron in the post.
      He did everything so quick and fluidly. Def a top 5 athlete I ever seen play basketball.
      He had such great hands too. He and Nash were made for each other.n

    I'll never forget the way Amare easily torched and annihilated the Spurs' defense in the '04 and '05 playoffs, which was then the best defense in the NBA. The power, explosiveness, strength, athleticism, fearlessness and determination of the young STAT were absolutely amazing to watch.

  • @domais68
    @domais68 Před 6 lety +11

    STAT was unbelievably good. Pre-long list of injuries, he was probably headed for the Hall-of-Fame. He was unstoppable around the rim and, in my opinion, in the discussion for most athletic power forwards of all-time. He had decent range and post moves but did most of his work over the rim. His natural reliance on incredible athleticism and size made all the injuries more damaging to his overall game. Power forwards, like Duncan and Malone, were big and dominant too but their games were extremely refined and not built on supreme athleticism. Stoudemire had serious knee problems and, after each injury, his reliance on athleticism took a hit. I thought his career was over when he had mico-fracture knee surgery but he still came back and played well. The eye injury was an unfortunate fluke but it still caused trouble. He still had a really good career and made a fortune. (always had max. contracts) Injuries are part of the sport but they definitely plagued and defined STAT's career.

    Before the microfracture, he had, till this day, the quickest first step I've ever seen on a PF.Sorta reminded me of a a bigger/faster/more explosive James Worthy.Back in '03-'04, the only young prospect I ranked ahead of him was LeBron.I seriously thought he was on his way to being a 30 & 10 type player before the injuries hit.People remember him most for his dunks, but he turned himself into a really good mid range shooter.His J was damn near automatic.Efficiency came easy for him.Even in his down years, he'd shoot mid to high 50's from the field.I'd argue he was one of the top 5 basketball prospects of the last 20 years.He kinda snuck under the radar in high school because his family situation was so chaotic.What he did as a rookie was amazing considering the circumstances.He was so good, they had to give him the ROY over Yao Ming.EVERYBODY wanted to give Yao that award.He was the face of the NBA's new global marketing and had all the momentum.Amare was just too good, tho.People knock him on the defensive side of the ball, but you have to remember, his developmental years were under Mike D'antoni.A guy who doesn't really give a shit about defense

    He was my favorite player in the mid 200s era. He was an absolute monster in his prime. No one could stop him. He was better than dirk , duncan and garnett offensively. Did people forget what he did WITHOUT nash when he went to New York his first year?

    I'm happy these were my last memories of the NBA(because I don't think I will ever watch again). NASH AMARI (and Shawn marion) look up the highlights here on youtube. Those passes by Nash and the finishes my Amari and marion ARE AMAZING!!!

    Great video, I would say that Amar'e's importance is as being the prototype for the modern small ball center. While he was able to fit into either the classical power forward or the center positions keep in mind he won all of his all NBA selections at the center position. He played much like Green but with more touches, no threes and no Defense.

    I mean he was really good, even one of my favorite player but he had Steve Nash and I think that made for easy baskets and great looks almost any time he ran the p&r. That combined with his athleticism and shooting gave made him a great player

    He had extremely smooth footwork on the offensive end. Problem is he just didn’t see the court as well as other top notch power forwards. He made Nash’s life so easy and commanded the opposing team’s defensive rotations each time. Frankly he was elite

      At that point in time he was not a Power Forward. He was a Center, which was his best position, whether he liked it or not.

    What’s crazy is that the front office was about to sign Tom Thibadeau to be defensive coordinator but mike D’antoni refused it. D’antoni should have swallowed his pride and they could have won a championship!!

      IKR, that would've been literally Golden State but twice the team with one superstar and two all stars, or even they could've traded Amare for KG, making it two superstars while retaining Joe Johnson, but sadly nope, Robert Sarver too cheap to keep Joe.

    I'm happy that Amari was successful he had a rough upbringing. The suns knew about his knee injury and they still gave him a 100 million dollar contract. After the knee surgery he Coudent jump as fast or as high and he was a player who relied on his athleticism. It was all downhill after that, but he had his huge contract $$ and that's what matters, he has a huge farm in New York thats like a family gathering farm. No NBA TITLE but your set for life-- that's what matters!

    Growing up in Phoenix back in the 2000s coming home from school and watching the suns on upn45 were some of my best memories from my troubled childhood. When he signed with the Nick's I cried. Then I proceeded to buy his jersey as a thank you, for all those great years he gave us. To this day I hate the Spurs, with a passion, and even tho we suck I wouldn't trade being a suns fan for anything.
