    Excellent ! I was employed by United in the late 70's late 80's at O'hare, Cargo then to commercial baggage. The times with my co-workers was some of the best memories. Good times, good people. O'hare has grown over the years and in my opinion for the better. . I will always love this airport traveling into and from, especially my time working there. Great vid !

    Reason I love about ohare is that you can walk from Terminal 1,2,and 3 without using a train and that they are connected. That’s a pretty rare thing I see with some airports.

    UPDATES as of 6/2/2024
    Delta now arrives and departs from Terminal 5! (thanks @chiefbozx)
    The Terminal Transfer Bus has reopened as of March 1, 2023, connecting Terminals 1, 3, and 5 to one another airside. It runs every 15 minutes every day from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM Central Time. You can catch the bus at Gate B1 in Terminal 1, Gates G17 and K20 in Terminal 3, and Gate M13 in Terminal 5.
    Concourse M's expansion is complete, now with 30 gates total. Thanks @tonyde52!
    The check-in counters, baggage claim and customer service offices for both JetBlue and Alaska are located in Terminal 2; however, all flights for both airlines depart out of Concourse G which is technically in Terminal 3 (JetBlue flights use Gate G2 and Alaska flights use Gate G4). This leads to confusion for arriving passengers about where to retrieve their checked bags. They need to go to Terminal 2, not Terminal 3. Here are the directions for arriving JetBlue and Alaska passengers: from Gates G2 and G4, take a left when you get off the plane, walk a very short distance to the dark circular hall known as The Rotunda, make a soft left turn and walk across a short pedestrian bridge leading into Terminal 2. Straight ahead is a glass display case with women's dresses in them. To the right of those dresses are two glass revolving doors leading out of the secured area and into the Terminal 2 departures hall. From there, walk downstairs to Terminal 2 baggage claim. Thanks, @sean2015!

    Big cities like Chicago are lucky to have a 2nd airport that early like O'Hare International Airport. O'Hare is bigger and younger than Midway and has been expanding these past few years.

    • @gamingjetboy8517
      @gamingjetboy8517 Před rokem

      On the contrary, Midway is older than O'Hare. In the 1950's Midway was the only major airport in Chicago, all the major airlines used it, until it outgrew the land, and became land locked. This is when Chicago, acquired the land where Orchard Field was. It moved all major airlines operations to the new Orchard Field in the early 1960's. It continues to grow and in 2023, it is now land locked unless another eminent domain is declared.

    Concourse L was originally used by Delta, and they are the ones who put the shiny metal everywhere. American acquired the concourse in the late 90's - early 2000's when Delta made a temporary move to Concourse E, until the new expanded international terminal was built. Delta is now located in the M Concourse (International Terminal)

      @MilesByFoot  Před rokem

      While it's impossible to be 100% certain, the last 10 flights from O'Hare to LAX have all departed from Concourses B and C, both in Terminal 1, regardless of the time of day or aircraft used. The legs from ORD to LAX are generally flown by mid-size to large planes, which limits the gates they can fly from. The gates in B and C, especially near the concourse center, are designed for larger planes.
      So I can be about 99% certain at least, with Concourse B being the most likely concourse!

    • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  Před rokem

      Is that enough time? Yes, you can get downtown in about 45 minutes on the Blue Line to see anything you might want to (there's plenty to see!.) As long as you're back at ORD two hours before your flight, you'll be fine.
      I've done this myself when travelling internationally. If you have checked bags that will be transferred for you, no problem! If you have to transfer yourself (collect them from baggage claim then check in again), you may be able to check in and drop off your bags early. If you can't check in that early (most times it's between 4-6 hours before your flight), the baggage office for your airline can often hold your bags for you for a short time. If you feel comfortable doing that, you can go explore Chicago without having to lug your bags around.
      It's not impractical at all, I love having getting a visit a city I'm transiting through. Chicago has widespread, reliable rapid transit, and as long as you allow sufficient time to return (and extra money in case you need to take an emergency taxi or Uber/Lyft) you should be golden!

    • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  Před rokem +1

      The short answer is probably not.
      You'll have to clear customs to enter the U.S., even if you're transiting, so it depends on whether you go through U.S. preclearance in Canada or at O'Hare. Most major airports in Canada will offer preclearance, including Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal Trudeau, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Not all airlines participate, but if you're flying Air Canada, there's a good chance you will *not* need to clear customs at O'Hare, as you'll have done so at your Canadian airport.
      Besides calling your airline and asking, a good way to know for sure is to check which gate your inbound flight to O'Hare uses. If it consistently arrives at an M-gate, you'll be clearing customs. If you're landing anywhere else, you will clear customs in Canada and be all set when you land!
      Safe travels!

      This is on the short side of connections, but manageable. Most of the time you spend here will be in customs, which can take from 30-90 minutes, depending on the day. Once you leave Terminal 5, take the people mover (they call it ATS) to Terminal 1, then re-clear security. After security, you can reach any gate in Terminal 1 in less than 10 minutes.

      Whew, that is tight! If they're booked on the same ticket, then the airlines are betting you can, but it will still be a challenge.
      American and United fly to Dublin, so if you're heading over on either airline, your connection will likely be close by, especially if it's American, as American's Terminal 3 is a little more compact than United's presence here. If you're flying United, it will likely be out of Terminal 1, probably Concourse C, which is close if you're landing in Concourse B, just one underground tunnel away.
      If you're on Aer Lingus, this will depart from Terminal 5, which will require you to use the Terminal Transfer Bus. It goes to Terminal 5 every 15 minutes all day, and you can catch it at Gate B1 in Terminal 1, or Gate G17 or K20 in Terminal 3. It'll drop you off at M13 in Terminal 5. • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  Před rokem

      While it depends on a number of factors, this should be possible if:
      Both flights are domestic (or customs pre-cleared)
      Both flights are booked on the same ticket
      If they're the same ticket, the airline(s) think you can make it, and will generally be required to rebook you if you miss the 1h10 window due to an inbound delay.
      Things that help this are the time of day (you'll need to reclear security, so however long the TSA lines are will factor in), whether or not you have to check and recheck a bag, and how many people are traveling with you.
      Good luck!

    • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  Před rokem

      @@nicholasbarry7580 That's about the best combo you could have, but if they're not booked on the same ticket (Southwest doesn't do that), you still run a risk of missing the flight and having to handle that with American, even if the delay is out of your control. Assuming the Southwest flight lands on time, though, the transfer should take about 30-45 minutes. It's close, but doable!

    I think I hold the world record for quickest connection in Chicago O'Hare.
    I was flying from Sioux City to Phoenix and the flight from Sioux City was an hour late. So that cut my connection time from 1 hour 15 minutes down to 15 minutes.
    It was a small regional plane so they sent me at the front of the plane in row number one so I could get out first.
    We arrived at terminal 2 gate F9 and I deplaned at about 3:36 and boarded my departing flight in the terminal 1 at gate C18 at 3:52 and of course I was the last one on the plane and boarding was supposed to end at 3:55.
    And for those of you who have not experienced O'Hare yet, the C concourse is actually further than the B concourse. You have to go through the B concourse and down a long connector tunnel to C.

      Even by my standards, that's a long layover to just be in an airport. Depending on the time of day and your baggage and the group you might be with, you could easily get downtown and see a couple sights in that amount of time, which I'd recommend! The Blue Line can get you there and back in about 90 minutes round-trip for $5.00.

      @MilesByFoot  Před rokem

      They've only done it since early 2021. My guess is they found enough people were flying to Chicago to use O'Hare that they'd pay for the convenience of landing on site to avoid transiting from MDW to ORD. Moreover, with international traffic down during the pandemic, the international terminal probably had some capacity again!
