I literally just watched an interview with Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz from the Philippines the other night... She did an interview the other day. Her crown turn over experience is practically the same as yours.
She said the day she turned over her crown, she was just given 24 hours to pack all her stuff and leave the MUO Apartment in New York. After packing, she went downstairs to the MUO limousine so she can get to the airport and even the MUO limousine turned her away. It was as if she didn't exist anymore. She knew her last day as a Miss Universe will end... But she never expected to just be "disposed" the way she did. Mind you, she was only 18 years old in NYC at the moment and she didn't have any family or close friends. She was basically on her own the day she turned over the crown.
It was just very sad to hear.... To just be treated like that after serving the organization for a full year. I mean... at least give the girl a ride to the aiport....

Honestly your experience turning over the crown is similar to my experience getting out of the military! It’s wild when people that are there for you 24/7 suddenly just move on without you.
You guys are great! Can’t wait for the 19th!

the toxicity of a pageantry such as Miss USA is insane. the fact that such toxic event happened to Nia & R'bonney.

Carpet bagger is a civil war term! Wealthy northerners moved down south to scoop up the plantations and such because the southerners couldn’t afford it anymore. It was pretty much used during reconstruction

Carpetbagger: a term for northerners who went to the south looking to make money off of the Reconstruction efforts post the Civil War.
