- We decided to kick off the new year with Brutal Truth - one of our favorite grindcore bands ever - to be featured in our first Most Valid Reason episode of 2015. Brutal Truth was formed in 1990, and since then they’ve been busy giving fans the earsplitting sound they started with when they first emerged on the scene. Although they disbanded for a few years, we were thrilled when we heard that they were planning another Japan tour which took place this past fall. This band pretty much provided the soundtrack to the lives of several staff members at VICE Japan. To capture this opportunity the way they probably would've wanted, we took a few Music Video Recorders with us and shot them perform as we lost ourselves in the rowdy crowd.

@@Beardodoomus Rich Hoak just doesn't do justice to Scott Lewis' drumming on this album. The original lineup with Brent on guitar was the best.
@@inextremis2011 Totally agree man. Extreme Conditions line up or bust. I met Rick Hoak and Dan Lilker a few years back, super nice dudes, but I do love the Gurn and Scott Lewis era the best.
@@Beardodoomus At some level, maybe this is a parody of what metal drumming is about, or maybe a clear departure from the norm, where the drums/percussion provide timing or a beat as the backbone. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good IMO.

As a lover of all things extreme I’m happy a band like Brutal Truth came and went like they did.
But I’m not gonna act like grind is some amazing genre, but, like all great sub genres every once in a while someone transcends into some kind of mainstream.

I love this album, and would probably have enjoyed the next few albums, if only Scott Lewis was still on drums. Rich Hoak can certainly drum like a demon, but he lacks a good sense of timing. This is why I lost interest in BT.

Same vocalist, same bassist through out their career.
As an old death metal drummer, that Hoak drummer is just... not good at all.
Saw BT with Lewis on drums back in 1993 (playing exactly like on ECDER) and then in 1995, I saw them live with Hoak on drums... never wanted to see them again after that. Unfortunately, they completely lost it with that drummer.
Both live and in all the live footage I've seen of him, he's running all over the place, his blast beats are insanely cringeworthy... the snare just completely disappears and he tries to cover it all up with a cacophony of cymbals.
