  • Eastern Hills Mall has gone through a revitalization attempt that seems to have failed. But now a redevelopment plan seems to be on the horizon. Let's get a look inside Eastern Hills Mall before it undergoes any major changes.

Disregard the halloween decorations in the mall; this footage is from October 2019.
I also want to apologize in advance if I borked any pronunciations. Lotta names north of Virginia I am unfamiliar with.
And of course, it is refreshing to hear that this mall will be reopening soon.

I've always hated seeing nice-looking malls die. I wish this mall luck in the future, and hope that it succeeds. One note though: Lechmere is pronounced as "Leech-mere" and went through a couple prominent owners before closing under Montgomery Ward in '97.

Always love your choice of mood tunes! I dig this mall, too.

My favorite part of the mall is the food court and center court, they did a really nice job modernizing those sections without making them bland. I do miss all the neon that this mall had, the red tiles on the floor followed a same red neon pattern on the ceilings also a lot of storefronts and in the food court had neon signs too. I have been following the mall on Facebook and they have been holding quite a few events outside of the mall during this pandemic, so they really have been trying, and one more thing Rocky's (which replaced Dave and Busters) was kicked out of the mall back in December or January because they fell behind on there rent.

Allot of scars from former national retailers here. The departing of chain stores is usually the beginning of the end for the mall, and I’m afraid to say that ship has sailed a while ago.

A lot of abandoned stores. Most of the time when a Sears go vacant it stays that way.

Wow! I didn’t realize it had a Duff’s (Chicken Wings) in it! I hadn’t visited this mall in years. In the early 1970’s there was a store called “Airport “ that had futuristic architecture with stainless steel (or aluminum) stairways & flooring that felt like you were walking on air! I wish there were no pictures of it. Thanks for sharing!

This is a beautiful well-maintained mall with a lot of beautiful 80s or 90s decor. Malls in my country are still thriving but we have only a few of them covering huge areas of customers, not competing ones next to each other. I think this is what kills old malls when a new one opens up. And of course crime or when the neighbourhood changes from middle class to slum.

Worked for Sears there and then the mall itself in the 90s. Great mall back then. And now it's basically all gone...

good timeline, I've lived in this zip code for my entire life and I remember this mall showing signs of slowing considerably by 1992 or 1993, being all but dead by 1997 or 1998 and being ghost town status by 2004, about the only difference from 2004 to the 2010s was that there less mom & pop stores but foot traffic was crazy light and the writing was on the wall as they say. lots of memories of going to the movies and Friendly's with my parents and siblings there, Friendly's was where Orvis is/was and had what I can only describe and remember as an ice cream stand on the side of the restaraunt that my mom used to take me to after school sometimes, you saw it walking into the mall from Pennys. I remember the food court being a big deal when it opened in the late 1980s, kind of depressing seeing it walled up like that

I'd like to see what is left of this mall a year from now in December 2021, I bet most of these stores will be gone, sad.

Funny how I've watched all these different videos about Eastern Hills Mall by all you creators, and not 1 of ever mention that Sears was an anchor store at the south end of the mall for over 30 years until it's closure in 2016.

  • @funecheeseofficial3576

I am uncertain on this one. DeBartolo has built a great deal many malls, so it is possible there might be a sister to this mall out there.

  • @funecheeseofficial3576

I have a mall request New Midland Plaza
    Alcoa TN aka Maryville
