  • These are two top quality upright pianos, with a fine touch and tone.

    The fact that you are playing while talking itself shows an outstanding capability.

    The Hoffman has more tonal color but the Yamaha in this video probably has one of the most handsome cabinets on the market.

    Thank you for posting this intriguing and informative video, Marcus. It certainly helps in demonstrating the beautiful rich sound of the Hoffman and the Yamaha makes for a very interesting comparison. Do you have any experience of the Irmler Special uprights from Bluthner and how they might compare with the Hoffman in terms of build quality? Regards, David

      @@gegervary I also just started taking lessons a year and a half ago (and had some basic experience from taking lessons for to years when I was 10). At the moment I am a bit afraid of the loudness of the Hoffmann piano, since for now I only have a Digital piano and am afraid my neighbours might complain 😅

    • @gegervary
      @gegervary Před 2 lety +2

      @@sabrinae.858 Yes! Going from a digital to acoustic may seem hard at first because keys are usually a lot heavier, but that is not a bad thing per say because it will expose the weaknesses in your technique and gradually help you correct them. I had a digital piano before, and another upright, but this one is by far the heaviest of them all, and I’m not great so I struggled too at first, but now since my purchase in December, I’m already a lot better. Consistency is key, I wish I had the same determination when I was younger hehe. Keep it up! Also make sure that after the first 3 months or so you get a tuning and a regulation. Mine started to sound “off” and some hammers wobbled, but part of the deal was 2 free services to correct those since a piano has to “break in” when it’s new, and it’s important to regulate it properly in the beginning so that it ages well and possibly lasts you a lifetime.

    i just bought the hoffmann t128 and i feel that the keys are not that responsive as compared to some other pianos ive tried like the schimmel. why is that. Ive been playing my whoffmann for a week now amd yesterday i went to a schimmel and yamaha showroom, i feel that those piano keys are much more responsive and lighter. isit because the hoffmann have a much heavier touch?

    Your observations are spot on. The Hoffman offers more tonal colors to shape the the sound while Yamaha's seem to always have only one tone. Yamahas play piano to forte with only one tone, IMO. Technically they are excellent, but musically they are not.

    Sure, agree that Hoffman T128 is nice but it, is $2k more than Yamaha YUS5. YUS5 should compare to V126 at same price.

    • @RobertsPianos
      @RobertsPianos  Před 5 lety +2

      Thank you for your comment Angelia, the two pianos are roughly the same price. In this case the Hoffman was several thousand cheaper than the Yamaha. www.robertspianos.com/ldetails.php?RP=2180619
      www.robertspianos.com/ldetails.php?RP=2180617
      The Yamaha sold for over three thousand less.

  • @benjaminsmith2287
    @benjaminsmith2287 Před 5 lety +6

    Are these comparably priced? I think the SE series are the best sounding Yamaha uprights, though I doubt there are that many used ones around and they're aren't that many made. But maybe they are in a higher price range than Hoffmann's 128. These both sound quite nice. I like Hoffmann because Yamahas are ubiquitous in the states where I am, although the Us are much more than the YUs. YU5 is considerably better than YU3 or YU1. Hoffmanns are rare in the states and are part of the Bechstein family.
