Ritual and ceremonial masks are an essential feature of the traditional culture and art of the peoples of Sub-Saharan and West Africa. While the specific implications associated to ritual masks widely vary in different cultures, some traits are common to most African cultures: masks usually have a spiritual and religious meaning and they are used in ritual dances and social and religious events, and a special status is attributed to the artists that create masks and to those that wear them in ceremonies. In most cases, mask-making is an art that is passed on from father to son, along with the knowledge of the symbolic meanings conveyed by such masks.
Masks are one of the elements of African art that have most evidently influenced European and Western art in general; in the 20th century, artistic movements such as cubism, fauvism and expressionism have often taken inspiration from the vast and diverse heritage of African masks. Influences of this heritage can also be found in other traditions such as South- and Central American masked Carnival parades.

Where I can find more music like this
Hello, I've came back a few times to see these masks again. They kind of inspire me on a project that I'm doing for a distant future...related to masks of course....BUT
I REALLY REALLY want to know what music is playing. The Shazam didn't catch it... neither other apps I've tried. Please cease my suffering.
I hope this eases your suffering.

Could someone please tell me the name of and possibly even meaning of the mask at 7:58 seconds? I have had the same one with less color for years and can’t find info about it
Love the song bb
Nearly every photo of every mask in this video was taken, without permission and uncredited, from our online store, www.genuineafrica.com. Had you requested permission to use these photos, we would likely have agreed. It seems only fair that you give use credit, or a "thank you".

My sincere apologies... I didn't know permission was required. A belated thank you for such wonderful material.
I shall include the link to your store under the video and I hope it will bring you lots of buyers.
Thank you very much. In the internet age, it's nearly impossible to control the use of one's images; so your offer to include a link to genuineafrica.com is a much more gracious gesture than I expected, given my past experience in such matters. Feel free to use any other images from my site, and I apologize for the impolite tone of my comment.
Ronald Meredith Do you know why the eyes are closed? I am capable of seeing in spirit and I see a lot of spirits with their eyes closed or spirits that look like masks but I don't understand why the eyes are closed. Any insight into this would greatly be appreciated
