- Hamish Imlach live in the "ZWIEBEL" Bar Hamburg Germany. Complete gig captured on a Tape Camcorder with Hamish blessing (the cost of a Pint). I never had any intention to post this but due to requests I have made all that was recorded until the battery ran out available. The 1st Generation SD camcorders were poor in low light conditions but the audio is fine. The evening was captured after crossing paths with friends Neil & Bob of the Wally Dugs who were on the way to the gig and being up for a pint went along. The recording nicely captures the music and banter while outside the window the passage of time is marked by the passing of cargo ships on the Elbe. “All the videos, songs, images, and graphics used in the video belong to their respective owners and I or this channel does not claim any right over them.

This is excellent. The version of sporting life 3rd song on here is brilliant.24 hundred views is shocking should be in the millions.Hamish might be well known in the folk community but not so well known in Scotland in general but should have had the same status as the Corries in Scotland hes at the top level in folk music.
When I was a student in Glasgow in the sixties, I had the chance to experience this great songwriter/folksinger live on the stage a couple of times. Thanks a lot for sharing, mate! Brings alive a lot of fine memories! His version of "Black is the color" is my all time favorite. Thanks again!
Lucky to have seen them both live. HardLy two of a kind but work so well together. Those were the days.
thank you , the big man has had a lasting impression on me since seeing him perform in front of 6 people one night and several hundred several nights later, both performances he connected with the audiences as if he was singing and talking to them personally.had the pleasure of being in his company on several occasions when young a multi talented and wonderful human being,
sadly missed , but his influence will transcend time
I cannot thank you enough for this...I was born in 1992, so I´ve never really had a chance to see this guy on stage...kind regards from Czech Republic :-).
The folk scene in the west of Scotland during the 60 was immense
I followed Iain Gaberlunzie Hamish Billy Connelly Alistair McDonald around Glasgow Airdrie Bellshill Motherwell
Folk clubs every weekend for years
I never stopped following the Gaberlunzie up until their last gig in Falkirk
Thanks for this upload...well appreciated. Gone but not forgotten.
Thank you for sharing this. I guess I have nearly attented all the concerts of Hamish and Ian at the ZWIEBEL.
Just a heads up that I found out that 7 years earlier a CD exists "Recorded live at the "Zwiebel" in Hamburg, 1st September 1985
Hach, die alte "Zwiebel". was für eine wunderbare Kneipe, ich schwelge gerade in netten Erinnerungen. Danke!
Freut mich Gunnar, ich war an den Abend dort mit Neil von der Wally Dugs :o)
awesome, thanks too uploader!
I have been there in Uli's legendary Zwiebel at this concert ! Does anybody know the Date ?
Just one question - any idea why it's called die Zwiebel? Is it built on the site of an old vegetable patch? Sounds like it must have been a great place to see Hamish anyway.
When was that?? I remember him very well, he was in Dusseldorf for several times during the late 70es / early 80es.
One evening during a gig he said to the audience (in Musentempel which no longer exists): Don't clap your hands so much, all the smelly air is cummin' up the stage :o)
Doesnt the title shamfully leave out the fabulous Ian MacIntosh ....
Where are the Iain McKintosh songs?
To long ago to say but probably I just run out of battery. It was pure chance I even had a video recorder with me that day, it was a 1st generation SD Camcorder which as we can see were not good in low light enviroments and the Zwiebel fell into that category. I had no tripod with me and the bar was full but found a place to place it that avoided people constantly passing back and fro to the bar.
