  • What a place! So much of everything in this unexpected town. History, markets, foods, streets, loads of traffic and friendly people. That dam wall, I mean dyke, is a real must-visit.
    0:00 Start
    0:06 Montage
0:28 Intro (Funny bit about how we did it at the end)
0:57 La Ferme Reservoir (Big dam with a dyke wall)
    4:16 The solar plant
5:32 Why am I so bad at thumbnails!
    5:50 Really narrow stairs
6:36 Eglise St. Sauveur Bambous (it's father Laval's church)
9:09 The story of how the church that father Laval built got built.
10:05 I mention my friends from school. (Well, their family names)
11:10 Maybe the house of Désirée Mée
    11:31 Street market montage
11:52 I tell you where Bambous is sort of located
    12:23 The Farmers Market
    13:16 The House of Donuts
13:46 Riverside Mini Food Court, with Roti tour
    14:52 A chicken biryani
    15:30 Clean hands and plates
    16:19 Riki's art of the day No.1
    16:27 ZiKool Soda, super refreshing
16:56 Sidewalks and cameras that won't turn off!
    17:31 Driving through town montage
    17:53 Oasis de Bambous (it's a park)
    19:08 Riki's art of the day No.2
    19:56 Driving
    20:10 Geoffroy sugar mill chimney
20:56 Driving down a palm line road
    21:02 Huge circular irrigation machine
21:40 Mandir de Médines (It's a temple with more names than that.)
22:19 I get attacked by a peacock (sort of clickbait)
22:56 The many names of the temple
23:12 Huge elephant, very small Riki
23:50 A dog tries to steal Riki's shoes
24:07 Medine meat shop (meatless shop on this day)
    24:47 B-roll from the car
25:10 The machine a villain would use on James Bond
25:52 Starting to look more like Star Wars
26:01 Riki telling us about Medine, the estate not the sugar mill.
26:22 I talk about a big wheel from Glasgow
27:11 I say Glasgow in a Glaswegian accent so it sounds a bit like 'let's go!'
27:39 Aquafresh. Does it all in one, mum.
    Thanks for watching

Thanks for showing us the beautiful small town of Bambous. That side of Mauritius is supposed to be drier since it is on the lee-side from the prevailing winds. The bread you ate is actually farata, it is thicker and crispier than roti and more time consuming to make. This used to be the bread locals ate in the villages long time back. It is lucky you seem to get it in the small towns. The town seems empty and the shops semi-closed. Fun fact about villages and small town during the weekdays between 9 am to 3 pm: they are dead with hardly any movements as most people are working or studying in the nearby bigger towns.

Thanks for the info. I though it was a big roti, but now it makes more sense.

OMG, what a joy to see my parents hometown. Never knew it was that big. I love Babous. The most amazing sight is where you are at the beginning of your video, the main road with the trees. Yes, the farmers market is sad. It could have been a good economic help for the local. Only if people knew or trained and see how farmer's market bring so much money elsewhere in the world (in my case, in Brooklyn, NY) U.S.A. . If the District Council of Black River would invest a bit more, the inhabitant of this village could get a better life (as the one in the north). In any case, thanks for sharing, I'm going now to download all my videos of Mauritius as well-:))) Glad to see non-Mauritian coming to Bambous and walking the streets.

We Mauritian, mostly all of us only know the street where we live, our schools or colleges, working place and may be some beaches.. 😂😂. Never knew Bambou is such an amazing place to visit.

I saw solar panels farm in Belair, wind turbines on the north east, near Riviere du Rempart, Roches Noires, Bellevue Maurel - was quite spectacular and impressive - didn't know that they has solar farm at Bambous! Way to go Mauritius!

Bambous was a surprise on the solar, but those wind turbines are huge.

    Hi Bryan & Riki,
Thank you for another great informative video. Reflecting on the sugar cane industry, it would be great to learn about the history of rum production in Mauritius ? Perhaps a tour of a rum distillery ? Cheers Peter J from Melbourne

Thanks for showing the small town Bambous, its always exciting to see this town even though I have never been there. The town may be compact but it looks fine and developing along the lines of the other sister towns inm Mauritius. Its superb with the traditional shops and boutiques and the local friendly population. Excellent reporting, regards.

La Ferme réservoir is located at one of the driest places in Mauritius. It used to be a nice fishing spot

      @BryanDiscoversWorld  Před 3 lety +1

I did see a group of people further down fishing, but it looked like most were fishing at the smaller Medine dams.

Beautiful video as always. that road where you started the montage, you should go there in december. The trees a called flamboyants, and they bloom in december. this road looks heavenly during that time.

The reason why there are lots of statues of animals in temples is to remind people that animals are important for the ecosystem.
