When you hear Polites and Odyssey’s mom singing those were their final memories before they died and when the Profit says that he sees a man with a trail of bodies he isn’t talking about Antinous he is talking about Odyssey, Odyssey has left a trail of bodies, He killed the infant, he let 558 men die from Poseidon’s hand and Polites was killed by the cyclops
Mhm! My roommate and I talked about it and they said that it was Odysseus in that moment and I am just HEARTBROKEN at that. Like it's such a good moment!!
Not exactly, the prophet can see the future, it was odysseus ki.lling all the suitors without hesitation hence why he said it was no longer him so the bodies where the suitors

The line "with a man who is haunting." I think it's also Odysseus after the song "King" because of the trail of bodies which he killed all of the suitors.
Polites still tells Odysseus to greet the world with open arms, even tho he has been brutally killed by the cyclops… Probably my favorite character just for that. He’s so pure of heart, so kind
When I heard him in “The Underworld”, my heart pinched. Just hearing "Open Arms" but like lower and slower… It was sad, heartbreaking 😢. And yes, I also felt like it was empty or like something was missing or like it was too short, but that’s truly what makes it heartbreaking. Polites saying his final words to Odysseus, and they haven’t changed… "Greet the world with open arms"

In no longer you I interpret the Penelope part as ruthless Odysseus and the path of bodies being the suitors and his own men because when he gets back he’s in a disguise so he’s technically not the same man
Yes I agree with that!! I wasn't thinking of that at ALL when listening for the first time but that feels so right! I love the idea of Odysseus not grasping that yes he will get home but he won't be the same man. OHHHSO GOOD

Honestly, Monster is a great song, but I feel like it suffered from having too much of it revealed in the teasers and snippets. We knew like, 70-80% of the song before it even came out. One of the main reasons "The Underworld" became my favorite song is because not only did we only know around 50% of the song, but the 50% we DIDN'T know (the part with Polites and his mom) absolutely destroyed me.
After that surprise reference to Polites in “Keep Your Friends Close” (which was UNCALLED FOR!) I saw his cameo in the Underworld coming from a mile away. I was so proud of myself for not getting got again… and then his Mom immediately got me. Well played, Jay.
You mean "Open Arms"?
I'm still not over the fact that when Polites shows up, Odysseus says his name with the same cadence he used in Full Speed Ahead, his voice is simply more _weaker_ and _broken_ sounding this time. Especially when you consider he tends to sing in higher notes when he's emotional.
If you notice, the danger motif in "No Longer You" plays when Tireseas says "You" to Odysseus, so do with that as you wil :)

So a couple fun facts to make you cry again.
Apparently the vocals from the spirits in the underworld are considered their last thoughts before passing.
Oh but it gets worse: think about the last words from Polites.
"Captain..."
After everything that happened with polyphemus, even with the pain and suffering of his death, all polites wants is for Oddy to still greet the world with open arms. He doesnt have hate or malice or blames Oddy. "thats what we get with open arms" may be true, but that doesnt mean this life isnt amazing when you greet it with open arms.

I made the grave mistake of deciding to listen to this while walking home. When Odysseus' mom part started, it hit me like truck. I was bawling my eyes out, it hit so hard. Great reaction btw!
EPIC Odysseus has gone to what I like to call "The Clark Kent School of Loving One (1) Woman" and I love that for him. I can't believe that we have a whole other Act to get through before their reunion 😭

I loved underworld saga, especially the first song. I’m still waiting for thunder, Binger, and wisdom saga, because I want to hear full , legendary, little wolf and god games.
I am so. so incredibly mentally ill about the Underworld. I was NOT expecting Anticlea to show up in the SLIGHTEST and after _that_ rollercoaster i get hit by the final chorus which leaves me speechless everytime.

23:00 “I see your wife with a man who is hunting, a man with a trail of bodies” could be referring to post monster Odysseus, the entire song being about how The prophet knows that he needs to become someone or something else to make it back home. “I see a man who gets to make it home alive, but it’s NO LONGER you”
Couple things. Dead souls in the oddesey forever repeat their last thoughts, which is why his dead men repeat captain in the danger motif, as well as the cyclops line, but that almost means that polities' last thoughts were of embracing the world with open arms, and odeyssus' mom repeating that shes waiting for him to return. And in No Longer You, the haunting man with a trail of bodies could either be referring to odysseus after King, or to antinous during his "I Want" song.
Love your reactions, glad to know I'm not the only fan of this musical out there. I watched the livestream as well, it was awesome!
You might wanna rewatch no longer you reviewed everything act 2 of the last saga Chris listen closely of what he’s talking about whenever there’s a man with his wife that’s a reference to hold them down in the last saga in act 2
Nah, that's old Odysseus since the entirety of no longer you is about Odysseus being unrecognizable in the future to the point that even Odysseus himself doesn't recognize him
