FINALLY!! Last night felt like Christmas!
“Their communications array is damaged, they can transmit audio only.”
Translation: “We don’t have the time or budget to show their bridge on the view screen.”
Old Lady: You offer him nothing!
Troi: I gotta lotta beans
Old Lady: ok
Within the span of 10 seconds the Enterprise detects two battlecruisers flanking the transport, sees that they are turning and those battlecruisers leave sensor range. Imagine flying at lightspeed and you can only see what's 10 seconds ahead of you.
It’s a similar thing with ships instantly responding to hails and Geordie’s jerry-riggings being ready within seconds. I assume it’s just a TV runtime/entertainment thing that keeps the plot moving for the audience faster than detecting the ships an hour ahead, cutting to another scene with the enemy ships turning to leave, then cutting to a third scene with the Enterprise arriving.
Star Trek’s sci-fi elements are meant to be entertaining, not logical lol.
@@ethanjames8371 Ikr. And entertaining they are. But it's so weird to me that people sometimes claim that Star Trek is super hard sci-fi and that their technology is based on real science lmao. All the episodes have gigantic plot holes and inconsistencies with previous or later episodes, it cannot be taken seriously.
@@yaldabaoth2 I've always figured most of the people who say that haven't actually watched much of the show. Trek has a reputation for being "smart" scifi, which it is, but then people make the mistake in thinking that smart means realistic, when instead it's trying to be philosophical.
Oh, well at near-Lightspeed and FTL velocities, any incoming craft decelerating out of Warp would in fact, to all intents & purposes, be as blind as a bat - reliant entirely on non-visual sensor readings, or rather (in contemporary aviation terms), performing an instrument-landing in zero visibility.
There’s only really one time (possibly two, arguably) in all of Trek, when we get to see an over-the-shoulder first-person perspective view of a starship entering a presumed combat zone by dropping out of warp all weapons loaded, and ‘coming in hot’, ready to fight, and that’s right near the beginning of the remastered version of The Trouble with Tribbles, when The No-Dash Enterprise responds to the priority alert signal from Station K-7 and arrives at maximum warp, expecting to find the station under attack by Klingon battle-cruisers -
The only thing that even comes close to showing that kind of angle again is just prior to the Klingon attack on DS-9 in Way of The Warrior, when the Defiant drops out of warp a matter of a few hundred metres off of the main docking ring, pre-cleared to dock with the Station and •instantly• slides up onto its regular parking-spot to offload its cargo of refugee Cardassian VIPs.
Alkar is quite possibly one of the most insidious and appalling individuals in Star Trek. Gaslighting women, siphoning their life force. Truly a horrible individual.
but he GETS RESULTS
Guess to him women are like gas tanks
"[My mother] hasn't been feeling well. Could she be taken to quarters?"
Troi: "Of course. Chief?"
And the friggin' Transporter Chief takes the visitor to her quarters, without even asking which quarters are prepared and as if she had nothing else to do.
10 minutes later:
"Picard to transporter room 3... transporter room 3? Chief, please respond... Mr. Worf, get down there and see why transporter room 3 isn't manned."
Thanks for rolling that beautiful bean footage!
You Offer Him Nothing but beans?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?
Old lady, you don't know what Deana has to offer. 😉
I don't wanna wait 23 more hours to see the next clip!
13 hours and counting :(
Finally!!!
The alternate "Mirrorverse Troi" episode.
I mean, they could just take them to the star system in the Enterprise, but then arrive at the planet on an unarmed transport from there.
But I guess such a compromise would spoil the plot, so no-one thinks of this.
