Video editing: Jon Ross - Hudba
Just came to this party 9 years late. I am new to bar chords. Was dissatisfied with the sound I was getting. I stop and start your videos draw out the chords. You have changed my playing thank you
Thanks
You have a knack for teaching; a skill that is not easily learned. Thanks for the lesson.
Thank you!
Fantastic lesson! I'm all about working on closed chords, 40s swing sound, and moving up the fret board. These videos are perfect for where I'm at, thanks much!
Thank you so much for your kindness and willingness to make these lessons! I love them!! I'm now obsessed with these! ^^
Thanks XOsuperior. The ending of the song uses partially closed chords. The F chord I play is a plain vanilla F chord (2010). Then a F#7 (341x avoid playing the 1st string). Then a G7 (453x avoid playing the 1st string). End on a bar C.
I found this video series really handy - Thanks for posting!
Thanks a lot for the video. It's a great intro to swing songs for me.
God, you're an awesome teacher, Gerald. I saw the review of your CD in Issue #27 Uke PLayer PDF, and then I went to your website, and now these lessons, which are right at my level. Buying your CDs now. And you're in MI--I'm in IL. Thank you for taking the time. I'm getting this closed chord stuff thanks to you.
Thank you Gerald ... got this and lesson one off now ... onward and upwards ... cheers ...
Great lesson Gerald, thank you.
Thank you for sharing...great stuff!
These videos are great !!! Thank you.
Thanks all!
The chord shapes are exactly the same on a baritone uke but the names of the chords are a fifth higher. For example the C bar shape in the video is a G on the baritone - same left hand shape.
Thanks, Gerald. I'm learning so much. Love these swing uke videos.
Thanks Deborah!
Nice and easy! Thank you! Please make more !!!
OH MY LORD... You have DONE IT AGAIN.... I'm off t write a song! THANK YOU. Xxx
@ImYourDeity - thanks for viewing and commenting. The key word here is in the title of the video "Beginning."
Brilliant, Gerald! Thanks. I already use lots of chord substitutions but I've never seen anyone show SWING ukulele and tutorial # 2 is amazing. Made me laugh when you said that open E7 works for blues... hehe Thanks a lot! On to #3!
That is such a brilliant tutorial, please, please make some more. If you had an instructional dvd I would definitely buy it. Just in case you were wondering about making one.
Thanks! This will jazz up my playing a lot! This second part was easy for me.Part one was more difficult for me to make the changes... but I am getting it!
Great lesson, Gerald! Can't stop playing that chord progression now ;)
thank´s Gerald you make it so simple and clear
Thanks for watching jazzaponique!
Good job...
thank you
You are right rutsan1968. It is 3424. Thanks for catching that. Sorry for the confusion.
Do you have a tutorial for the intro and the ending?
Thank you
When you're playing the E7 and D7 with your fingertips, which finger is on which string? I've paused the video and can't figure it out. I've experimented and whatever I've tried just doesn't look the same.
Thanks for posting these swing ukulele tutorials, fantastic! More please.
Great Video's. Very clear and moreover great sound. Thanks. I have a question though. At the beginning of the video you play some chords riffing before the lesson. What are the chords you are using?
Thanks
Hey Gerald! I really appreciate this videoseries, and you are doing a great job of teaching something hard so it becomes more easy to understand. I have one question though. You mentioned how to end the song, but i don't think you thaught us how to play those chords with "closed strings". Do you mind explain that to us? Thanks in advance
YES!!!!
rutsan1968 - You are right. Watch video #3 for an exaggerated but similar explanation of this right hand technique.
Sorry no tutorial for that. Thanks for listening though!
wow.!
Kia ora Gerald,
I enjoy your lessons, they are so refreshing and gun!!!I'm wanting to know what is the name of your ukelele and what size is it?
Your are a great teacher!!!! Thank you, Gerald.
jack
The video works fine with Internet Explorer. At home I have Firefox and it doesn't run on that. I can't explain why.
Use the Yahoo method I describe below. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hey Gerald! Thanks so much! Are you playing a Tenor?
I play a baritone ukulele and wonder how to apply this to the baritone chords?
Great video! I have a question though about the "slide". I cant figure out how it is done. Can you explain? Thanks!!!

Hi Gerald, I looked on your webpage for some tabs but didn't find any. Can you post them? You're a very fast teacher and tabs would help. Thanks!
Sorry Debbie. Currently there are no free tabs on my website
Hi, Gerald, Just discovered you! Yeah!
Thanks for watching Clarisa!
Pretty cool playing!!
I found this one difficult...need to know what the chords are so I can play them...
P.S. Cutting up my fingers on my fluorocarbon strings since I'm using the meat of my my fingers like never before on these closed chords. I'm getting my nylon stringed uke out now. But, it's a good pain. lol
Like!
Yes, Video does not start. I'd love to get the chords from this. I can do all the rest.
Gerald is the Marco Cirillo of ukulele
Thanks for the video. It helps a lot. I have a question though. I'm using my middle finger and my ring finger to double-bar the G9 and A9 chords. Will that hinder any future chord learning for swing ukulele, or will it work fine in the future?
Your fingering should work fine Butch. Everyone has different sized and shaped hands and fingers. If that works for you and easily get in and out of the chord then you should be fine. If it sounds like music, you are doing it right.
THANKS! :D
Thanks a bunch Greold just love jazz but on the ukulele it's too much.
I don’t get the slides.🙁I’m working on it. Thanks.
You can do it!
Hi, Gerald. I have a question. When I bar, I always cannot make the second bottom string sound good. I bar according to your guidance, but I still can't do that. Can you help me out?
Tse... Without seeing your left hand I can't really venture an opinion on what is causing you difficulty. Sorry about that.
Your videos freakin rock. I gotta go practice. Like for a hundred years.

Don't know why this has stopped working. You can view it in Yahoo. Go to Yahoo.com. Paste in the URL address of this video. A tiny video window will appear. Play the tiny window. Sorry.
not working!! :(
the video does not start..
..am i the only one experiencing problems?
Half the shapes and I still get paid, kinda!
This is just a demonstration of closed chords. after understanding how to swing (pump the strings or whatever) this video is as helpful as an image of the chords. Sorry but not that helpful.
