    Seriously, is it possible not to be moved by this guy? Not only does he have a heart and genuineness in his personality, but he has a talent to put the truth and realness of his life into words and perform them passionately and beautifully. I've had mental health issues (borderline personality disorder, depression) for almost 10 years and dealt with addiction in my relationships, and without Justin, it seriously would be harder not to feel totally alone. We all should thank him for just being who he is -- for being real. I for one am grateful.

    This has to be my favorite interview by far. It feels so intimate. I've shown it to family and friends b/c I knew they would really see why I love Blue October so much. It's not just a band - it's a vessel to relate, a community.

    Can't put into words how touching this is - two beautiful souls. It's refreshing to see the brutal, personal honesty to help people like me get through their darkest times. Blue October will forever be the band that helped me pull my life back together and want to go on living. No joke. Mental illness "blows" when you have it, and it "blows" even more when no one understands your pain. Thank you Justin, Jeremy, and Blue October. I have the deepest love and respect for you and what you do.

    This interview is so amazing. Justin and Jeremy's transparency and honesty is so liberating. It is not fun to have to hide behind a face of mental illness and the fight to appear normal is exhausting. Blue October has been a lifesaver for me, as silly as that sounds, the lyrics to their songs speak to my soul. Thanks for a great interview.

    You know it's funny, when you're famous you can talk about this stuff and people go "d'aww you poor thing you're such an inspiration". If you aren't famous and you open you all you get is "suck it up and get over it, grow up."

    I get chocked up watching this. I suffer from major depression, Anxiety, ADHD. I think of it as Mental disorder illness and I've been told by people when admitting to it they say Oh your not crazy like that, your just moody get emotionally. They don't see my other dark sides. They take my mania at times as just being a party animal. Im honest to my daughter's about this Illness, disorder so they know it's nothing they did wrong. Thanks for sharing your story. Thank you for speaking on this, I also struggle with bipolar depression, I completely get how you feel, and your band, friends and family are a lifeline. The float you need when you're drowning, and you can't help but to feel the way you do. It's a chemical imbalance in the brain. It's hard explaining it to someone who doesn't have it, but your emotions are all over the place, from feeling really excited about something to wanting to end it all because you think everyone hates you. I would suggest medicine or therapy to anyone struggling with it, it's helped me tremendously to pull myself out of that rut or that grave you dig yourself into. Thank you for putting light on this Justin, and I pray you and anyone else struggling is doing well and find that light at the end of the dark tunnel they find themselves in.

  • @bethieboop5504
    @bethieboop5504 Před 4 lety +1

    Justin has such a beautiful mind that it is hard to think of him as having a mental illness. Bipolar and depression are very real physical conditions that affect the brain. Many very smart people who accomplished great things were bipolar and there is some belief that they would not have accomplished all they were able to had they not been bipolar.
    Justin looks so good and appears to be very happy and doing well but he has, does and will continue to suffer due to depression and being bipolar .
    I have a thyroid disease that often is and was diagnosed to be bipolar. That error caused me to suffer for years and I know what it is like to be in the very dark and deep hole of overwhelming hopelessness and despair and how extremely difficult it is to get out of. After being properly diagnosed I still fall but now it's quickly treated and sets me free.
    It will never be that easy for Justin but it is getting easier and he is doing it. He's been in therapy for a very long time, takes his medication properly and is blessed to have people in his life who he cares for and care for him. Now, he has reasons to want to and knows how to use the tools that enable him to get out of that hole and back up without struggling like he used to.
    When I was living it, the hardest part was to be feeling well and know another fall was inevitable but not know when or where it would happe or what my reaction woud be. Justin books multipe shows in advance and never fails to put on a great performance so he and the other band members must feel confident that he has the ability to quickly get back up and to control his reaction when he does fall.
    Somehow he manages to conceal the affects the ilness has on him or fans only see a small fraction of them. When they are visible, fans want to and can help by praying for Justin's well being and for God to continue to give him the strength and desire to get back and inspire others.

    I'm not usually emotional, but whenever I hear Hate Me by Blue October, I'm all "are those onions I'm smelling?" because I relate to it so much. I wanna do a cover of it but I wouldn't know how without choking up every single time I tried. I have a plethora of things wrong with my brain, but I don't wanna self-diagnose to make me freak out even more lol. I, too, have been hospitalized. I am also musically inclined. I want to express what I feel through music, but I never have the band members to do it with. I do, but they always wanna do covers of Metallica or Nirvana, something not really different from the rest. I just wonder how Justin got out of it, cuz I see him in recent stuff where his composure is much, much better than it used to be.
    Any tips on how I should start?
