Many years ago I was at our local sewer plant, the plant had a torch that burned 24/7, I ask one of the worker what was fueling the flame, he said sewer gas, or methane. Now many or of wasted disposal sights have set up and trap the methane which is generated by our garbage. As an avid fisherman I have seen these methane bubble coming to the surface of lakes and swampy areas. It is the result of rotting vegetation at the bottom of the lakes.

C02 can also build up under the water, and if the water layer is disturbed and enough was built up, it can cause mass deaths.
around 2k people died near lake nyos when this happened. Now we put pipes in lakes we find the build up at to slowly release the C02

Can someone explain how this would occur naturally tho? Like what’s gonna ignite it naturally and how would it be contained enough without the use of a device to cause what people have described? Static electricity in the air? Ok, but then how is it contained enough to ignite?

+SOLARCELLS101 : I live across the street from an abandoned quarry. Since the early 1960s, it was used as a municipal dump for discarded appliances and organic yard waste. This was discontinued in the late 1970s and only clean fill (concrete, gravel, stone) was allowed. In the 1990s, the quarry was finally filled in and the city wanted to zone the land for residential development. Test wells were erected. Because of the rotting yard waste almost 100 feet down, methane was being released. If any enclosed structures were to be built on this land...KABOOM! So the land is now a park, thank goodness.
