    Hey Everyone, One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that I used "Baltic Birch" plywood for this build. Most lumber yards carry Baltic Birch. It's a little more expensive, but worth the price. It comes in metric sizes. 12mm is the equivalent of 1/2" and that's what I use in this video. Hope that helps!

    • @ellolo123
      @ellolo123 Před 4 lety +3

      how much does one sheet produce after cutting it all down and making the patterns? Was what you showed in the video the amount of patterned material that one sheet produced or was there more? I would like to make a table surface out of this.

    • @MichaelAlm
      @MichaelAlm  Před 4 lety +3

      @@ellolo123 I used a little less than half a sheet of ply for this. For a table top you might want to cut the strips thicker, like 3/4" or 1"

    Its amazing to see things become popular, go out of fashion, then come back in years later. I was doing this back in the 70's, and though it never became a fad, it was still fun to play with. Plywood has very much improved though, and allows for a much better end result. I spent hours filling up the little holes left by crappy plywood factory bonding, using glue and fine sawdust, which just added to the time and toil of creating. Well done sir. This brought back many memories to an old carpenter. My favorite patterns included ripped pieces of red mountain cedar, mixed in. Once sealed, the red stripes really popped.

    You can sell the scraps as pen blanks, might be a easy way to turn trash in to some extra cash.

Can imagine hundreds of ideas where these would be beautiful....framed as artwork alone would be awesome and then flooring inserts, stair treads, boxes, clocks, chair seats, mouldings around doors or one spectular entry door and the list goes on and on.....waiting to see more!

    I love all the different patterns you can get out of plywood. I am a woodturner and make bowls out of plywood and will be using some of your pattens. Thanks for sharing. Yes I love using the scraps to come up with new patterns even on regular wood, often time ending up with better patterns than the original.

    This video really grabbed my attention...very well done! About a year ago I was messing around with strips of plywood and made some similar patterns. I made drink coasters as gifts that were framed in walnut and was pleasantly surprised how nice they turned out...the recipients were even happier. It opened up a whole new world of ideas for me using all sorts of patterns for inlay work. Great video and thanks for posting it!
