Hey Everyone, One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that I used "Baltic Birch" plywood for this build. Most lumber yards carry Baltic Birch. It's a little more expensive, but worth the price. It comes in metric sizes. 12mm is the equivalent of 1/2" and that's what I use in this video. Hope that helps!
how much does one sheet produce after cutting it all down and making the patterns? Was what you showed in the video the amount of patterned material that one sheet produced or was there more? I would like to make a table surface out of this.
@@ellolo123 I used a little less than half a sheet of ply for this. For a table top you might want to cut the strips thicker, like 3/4" or 1"
Hi Michael,
Because of your? music choice and the beautiful imaginative and creativity flow....just Sub'd and Liked!
Anyway you can share the titles of your music trax?
I know you credited Epidemic but would like to get the trax names for listening pleasure on my audio player.
Thanks in advance for your response.
Berapa cm itu tebaly?
Would the strips need to be 1in for the basket weave as well I tried it did not turn out at all any help would be great
Its amazing to see things become popular, go out of fashion, then come back in years later. I was doing this back in the 70's, and though it never became a fad, it was still fun to play with. Plywood has very much improved though, and allows for a much better end result. I spent hours filling up the little holes left by crappy plywood factory bonding, using glue and fine sawdust, which just added to the time and toil of creating. Well done sir. This brought back many memories to an old carpenter. My favorite patterns included ripped pieces of red mountain cedar, mixed in. Once sealed, the red stripes really popped.
@Hello how are you doing?
@@lydiaanderson6785 how are you doing?!
@@mohnjarx7801 Damn it Carl
I love these. They remind me of 70's inspired decor.
So insane. Love these so much! Can totally see plywood patterns integrated into furniture builds in such a cool way. Thanks for keeping me inspired. 🙌🏼
Thanks Sam!! 😁
You can sell the scraps as pen blanks, might be a easy way to turn trash in to some extra cash.
Or make them into pens yourself, like Peter Brown did to finance his entire shop.
Love that 7:24 throw back 80's music. Craftsmanship, direction and editing. Great job.
Very inspired work, I dig it. The videography is the best I've seen in any DIY video
These are absolutely stunning! Can imagine hundreds of ideas where these would be beautiful....framed as artwork alone would be awesome and then flooring inserts, stair treads, boxes, clocks, chair seats, mouldings around doors or one spectular entry door and the list goes on and on.....waiting to see more!
Totally!!
That’s completely tempting as a tabletop. 💕
I love all the different patterns you can get out of plywood. I am a woodturner and make bowls out of plywood and will be using some of your pattens. Thanks for sharing. Yes I love using the scraps to come up with new patterns even on regular wood, often time ending up with better patterns than the original.
OH MY GOD. your sound design is incredible
Khruangbin from Houston Texas
OMG, just discovered your attention to details, skill, patience and hard work!!!!
Wish I could have a studio and tools like you have here. You make it look easy!
That's great. And the reason why i like to work with multiplex plates most of the time!
Good job👍🏽
Awesome, love plywood, so versatile and love the patterns so will definitely be trying something like this. Andy UK
The making of a silk purse. Beautiful
They are all cool. I like the combined scrap patterns the best too.
SWEET! It's like quilting with wood. Can't wait to see the finished varnished version.
That is so visually pleasing and mesmerizing, I could look at it all day
I discovered your channel today! I started off with your most recent video which was pretty epic. Now I'm binge-watching your series and thinking these would make amazing wood tiles in my RV or hell in any project! I am going to have to attempt this now! Thank you so much for sharing this.
This is probably my most favourite video on CZcams... visuals, sound track, camera work and ofcourse thise patterns I can't seem to get enough of!!!
What an awesome video. I came for the woodworking ideas and stayed for the FABULOUS video editing and music which went along so seamlessly, just like wood patterns you made. Michael, you outdid yourself with this video. LOVED IT.
Literally waited a year for this. I can watch this all day. Love the music.
Thanks!! You won’t have to wait another year for the next on. Working on part 3 right now 😉
Those look awesome. Definitely going to go on my want to try list. I can only imagine that it would look awesome with a spectra plywood. This video gave me an idea for a bowl.
Love the patterns!! Fave was the one that had the 1" square facings mixed with the edging patterns. Love. 💜💙👍👍👍
Yep nailed it. Great throwback to the late 70's, early 80's. For all you interested the music was Night Stalker - Wave Saver. Love the patterns. Looking forward to the building episode.
Keep it up. Cheers. 👍🎈
Thank you so much I was trying to find the song!
That beginning scene was so awesome! A Plywood-scape! Oh, and I think the diamond pattern is my favorite.
Thanks Bruce!! That opening scene was really fun to shoot
Really nice! I'd love to see some of these patterns made up in bamboo plywood.
I have been woodworking for years and this is something I would have never even thought about. Just found your channel and all I can say is wow, that is amazing! I have never in my life seen plywood look more beautiful and elegant than this. Simply amazing. You have taught an old dog some new tricks. Most definitely subbed. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Beautiful work and I love the 16-bit era soundtrack later. I would love to have a larger lab/workshop space to try stuff like this.
Gorgeous. Clever. Creative. Beautiful. Intricate. Genius. Awesome. Epic. Mesmerizing. Art. Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome intro, I really like how you timed the beats to the placement of the pieces. Also this video's really given me a lot of food for thought. Not sure if I have all the tools I need, but I'm gonna try playing with plywood patterns!
This video really grabbed my attention...very well done! About a year ago I was messing around with strips of plywood and made some similar patterns. I made drink coasters as gifts that were framed in walnut and was pleasantly surprised how nice they turned out...the recipients were even happier. It opened up a whole new world of ideas for me using all sorts of patterns for inlay work. Great video and thanks for posting it!
Thanks Lou!
I've been meaning to make a table for an obtuse corner next to my hot tub. I keep thinking, I have this nice sheet of marine grade ply but, I need to come up with a nice veneer or some other finish... Now I'll just cut the sheet into strips, have some fun with the shapes, and varnish.
Great video, and thanks for the inspiration!
Didn't ever think plywood could look so good. Outstanding work.
I really like the herring bone/diamond mixed one. Super cool
I tried this when I saw your original video. I was amazed at how easy it was to experiment with. Kind of amazed at the size of a finished piece compared to the original sheet of plywood too! I had the odd piece that came apart too I think it's just the nature of the game for this kind of work.
Love yr pattern ply work Michael. You are without a doubt the ‘Master of Patterned Ply’. 💕💕🙏
These patterns mesmerize me for some reason. More than they probably should I mean.
Absolutely incredible - so satisfying watching the patterns come together! Can't wait to see what you make these into!
Thanks dude!!
👍 wow. very cool. thank you for sharing. This is a great idea. Builds are endless.
Love your work Michael, thanks for the inspiration
Loving these funky patterns!
I have always loved the look of plywood edges. Glad to see I'm not the only one. :)
The trippy 80s music and slow camera pans were an awesome way to reveal all the pieces. So good man!
Thank you 😁
LOL yeah I was going to comment on that. It reminds me of Tron.
I was just thinking about exposed edge plywood projects and CZcams search presented this video and now I’m quite a bit happier than when I woke up this morning. This is amazing stuff you’re doing! Thx! New sub!
That’s awesome!
Now we are seeing a real dedicated woodworker. I love seeing the Benz out in the weather while you have a woodshed.
That's amazing! Would be great as an inlay with a dark wood like Walnut. Keep the great content coming please!
Outstanding!! Never thought of plywood as "cool". I very much enjoyed your presentation. It will be interesting to see what you make from those patterns.
By far the BEST music of any woodworker on the Tube🎶🎶🔊
Wow Michael! You are the Master. Thanks for sharing!
The retro synth wave is optimistic and foreboding all at the same time!
Patterns are sooooo cool, subscribed!!! Thanks for sharing!
Wow you make this look easy but still mind boggling. Cant wait to see what you make next.
I'm planning on making an office desk for myself next month and adding a patterned plywood inlay would look awesome. Thanks for the idea!
That sounds great!
Jewelry boxes, Michael. I see beautiful jewelry boxes!

I watched it and I can see exactly what he did. Just sayin'.

I was just surfing CZcams and came across your channel, amazing ideas about the plywood patterns! Have not seen it anywhere and really like your super creative ideas Michael Alm. You've one more subscriber today... Keep up the awesome jobs and thank you for sharing.
So much more epic with the music. I'm just watching these to watch them. Great channel and info bud 👌👍
Dope music and idea, thanks for sharing!
amazing what you can make out of a simple piece of ply , well done
You have entered a black hole with this process. You'll never get to the end of it's creativity, and you will enjoy every second of it. I wonder how it would take wood stain, you see yet another creative black hole to go down.
Amazing to see how this is done. Sharing on The Awesomer.
That looks awesome! I'd love to try that!
Mind blown!!!! Beautiful work man.
love your choice of music, explanation, animations and the woodwork. very well put together
