Convert AAC, AIFF or Wav files to MP3 on your Mac

- In this video, I will show you how to convert AAC, AIF or Wav files to MP3 using Apple's Music app on OSX.
The process requires that you import the audio file into the music app and then change the import settings to the MP3 format in the preferencnes.
I'll take you through all of the steps involved in this easy to follow tutorial.

For some reason, the iTunes on my iMac, just will not allow me to import my AAC music files. I don't know what the problem is.

I haven't tried that but I would think that it would be copyright protected in some manner. So that you can only listen to it in their app. If you want to listen to it on a computer I believe you can access the service via a web browser. I know they also offer listening of the audio offline via download but I assume its all in the app or browser only.

I was converting my MPEG into mp3 using these steps , but after converting i get a AAC file. I need it to be a mp3 any suggestions?
I am in Process of trying to move 72gb of MUSIC from WAV to I tunes any ideas of trying to in Block rather than individually coz I have not YRS PLEASE HELP
You may need to get a batch conversion software. Check out Hitpaw and try the demo version to see if that works.

A bit late, I know, but it may help someone else. You have to make sure that the track title itself is selected/highlighted - just having the song open doesn't work.
Hi, I'm new to your channel and tried your advice. Tried converting AAC to MPEG3 but the audio converted from AAC to MPEG. Is MPEG the same as MP3? Can I play the audio through my speaker using USB with MPEG conversion? I tried to save all my songs on USB so I can use it for my students. Thanks in advance!
Actually it should be MP3 which is a dedicated audio file. MPEG3 is audio and video. So it depends on which device you are playing it on as to which one is best. If it is just audio really it should be mp3.

What about FLAC to MP3?
Apple Music doesn't support the flac format. So in that can download Audacity which is free audio editing software. It can open flac files and simple go to file export and export as mp3.. You can get Audacity for Mac,Windows and Linux here www.audacityteam.org/download/

Didnt work :( couldnt get it to drag into apple music or even open
When i added it to apple music and went to convert it wouldnt let me click MP3 help pls
Click on the Music/Preferences from the top menu. Click on files click on Import Settings and change it to mp3. now go back to the file you imported and click on file convert....
What is the difference between importing like this vs Wav. I'm asking bc I am using it for Music production on DAW...
If you have a DAW you should use WAV is it is more often than not better than MP3.

IT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME. the convert to mp3 onion doesn't appears high liter. i used to do this with my 2012 MBP but not my 2022 map
If you go to the Music app, go to settings/Files/Import Settings/. Then change this to MP3 Encoder. Then when you click on the track and select the convert option from the top file menu it should be there. Let me know how it goes.
@@Touchtechnologyreview these instructions are pretty much whats on the video. You’re saying to open the music APP, then settings, then files. Mine doesn’t show SETTINGS when i do it this way. Thank you for the help. I mean it’s there in my old mbp but not in the mew one

CONVERT TO MP3 is not highlighted. i was in the RECENTLY ADDED tab and it was not working. weird, hu? this is the way it has always worked for me ion my old map. thank you for the help
@@DjGCue71 Are you definitely using the Music App? If you click on the Music menu on the top left there should be a settings drop down menu.
Will this conversion allow me to play that song on a Samsung product?
I guess so. I am pretty sure that Samsung phones would support mp3 files.

Exactly. I wish it was that easy. So many people shoot vertical now it's a real pain at times. I have to edit a video for a client and just finished it in widescreen now I have to do the same edit in portrait mode. Adds so much more time and effort.

You mentioned you had a DAW in the previous comment, so I would suggest you use that to export to the file format you want.
