Very informative video, but the one thing I didn't hear talked about is having the speedo reprogrammed for the size change which will affect shifting & transmission life. Also, I heard no discussion about how going to grossly oversized tires & wheels can affect braking & wheel bearing life.

It takes a volume of air to hold up your vehicle not a pressure of air, i believe in running a higher ply tire, it will ride rougher, but last longer, we run them at 50-65psi on an 80 psi tire, cause we usually use them as a car, lunch box hauler, but if loaded we air them up

My question is if you have a vehicle that states 32psi in the door jam and the current tires have a max psi of 50 and are the same size tire and you put 32 psi in and it looks flat and squats badly, wouldn’t that wear out that tire way faster? It definitely kills the fuel mileage… My tires on my 4,800 pound crossover has 50 psi Hankook all season tires and I always run them at 45 and have never had uneven wear.. I’ve done that with all of my past vehicle’s and never had a problem because I always ran with name brands…

The manufacturer set the optimal tire pressure based on weight of the vehicle in relation to the stock tire. Stock tire size, stick with the door.

My car says 32 I believe, tires say 50, I run them at 35... better steering feel at lower speeds, still a decent ride for 50 series rubber.

I would just be happy to find that magic tire pressure for my tires that didn’t cause it to cup or wear in the middle.
I have had the very best experience with an over inflated 44 psi on my 2020 Raptor with BFG 35’s. They wore right in the middle 75% of the tire but totally wore out early. However the ride was as the smoothest tire experience ever.
    The Toyo R/T’s would cup
The Nitto Terra Grappler started cupping
Now I have gone retro with a Ram 2007 5.9 Cummins with 37 Toyo R/T’s and trying to figure out what the perfect combination is. Frankly you don’t really know until it’s too late, the tires already worn down the middle or it’s cupping.
I hate a vibration from the tires. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

      My 91.5 2wd runs 285/85r16 65psi front( 3500lbs) 50psi rear(2500lbs). Tag calls for 45f at 3840lbs /80r at 5450lbs.
      My 98 4x4 runs 285/75r18 at 75psi front(4500) 65 rear( 3000 lbs) . Tag calls for 65f at 4850 80r at 6084.
Typically fronts stay where they are . Rears are adjusted for the load on the truck. With dirt track in my past, I use a IR temp gun to check air pressure '_' . Mesuer the tread blocks from shoulder to shoulder, if they aer within ±2°f(1°c) their run what you brung. If the middle is hotter it's too hard, let someout (you are burning yhe centers out)and recheck. If the middle is cold add air it is squishing the center up off the road.
Tire guy jokes with me when I go in for rotation , you are going to owe us on the mileage warranty for doubling the tire life. 75k on a 50k tire. Mind your air it is more work than set and forget but it works.

@@daviddroescher Now that is some great advice! I never thought about an IR gun to look at temps as the tire heats up.

@Captain-Awesome yep the trick helped me set the cold tires on the race car so that when it came off the track the temps were ±.5° ment that I sent the car out with the right air so that when the tire warmed up and grew up to sit flat with the biggest possible foot print, If I set too light it would grow too much, overshoot the pressure melting the rubber in the center but cold on the corners with full tread still. Was a 3000lb 72 camero and with 15-24psi depending on position and track conditions.

@@daviddroescher you drive race cars, that explains your knowledge base. That did seem like a lot of detail for the average guy to have 😎.

Rotate 5k or less moniter air pressure every 30 days

Having trouble understanding that math equation for pounds per psi.

    • @jasoncaldwell7667
      @jasoncaldwell7667 Před 9 měsíci +1

The new tire is 3960 lbs at 80 psi, which is 49.5 lbs per psi. Old tire was 3080 lbs max capacity, which when you divide 3080 by 49.5 lbs per psi gets you 62psi on the new tire.

  • @ericestep9880

False. The bigger tire will take less air to handle the same weight. Also larger tires on a smaller wheel will sometimes only be D rated but have a higher load rating. Not everyone wants 20’s and 22’s.
