  • Our team in Makunudhoo, Maldives recently rescued an entangled manta ray, who was found with fishing net wrapped tightly around his cephalic fin.
Despite being afraid at first, he let our team member Tiana gently remove the net. The cuts were very deep, and he also displayed shark bites on his body, due to injured manta rays being more vulnerable to predation.
We are so glad that we were able to help this manta ray, however, others are not so lucky. Although the Maldives does not fish with nets, ghost gear drifting from other countries frequently entangles marine life.
We would like to say a huge thank you to King, Adam, Umar, and Fauz for spotting the manta and assisting in the rescue.
