Managing Expectations: Road to Blackpool

When I tell folks I’m heading to the Blackpool Ballroom competition to “participate” rather than “compete,” I’m not being humble or battling self-doubt. I’m just staunchly realistic. I know that I don’t stand a chance against these lifelong dancers. I am about to step onto the world’s most prestigious dance floor, not to snag a prize but to snag a moment of utter, breathtaking joy.
