  • I succeeded to 3D print and assemble the strandbeest published by MatijaHardi:
    www.instructables.com/Clockr-...
    www.thingiverse.com/thing:458....
MatijaHardi has named her beest the “Clockr-Walkr”, because it is powered by the second hand of a wall clock. This means, that the worm gear makes one rotation per minute leading to approximately one step of the beest in 10 minutes. I have replaced the wall clock by a TT motor rotating the worm gear at 100rpm and 6V. This leads to 3 rotations of the large gear per minute and therefore approximately to one step per second. In my version of the strandbeest its legs were 19cm long and the gear had a diameter of 5.5cm. The beest turned out to be very unstable and lost its equilibrium easily. Therefore I created horseshoes for each leg, which prevented the beest from falling on its side. After some successful runs the axle broke. Conclusion: the construction is a nice prototype, but needs further improvement.
