I'm a landscaper in BC so I have a little bit of insight into your grass. Basically, the heat waves will continue to be intense like they were last week, August will be dire and your grass likely doesn't have a chance this year. You're basically just going to waste your water and your money trying to revive it at this point. However, if you fert like a fiend (in the fall, if you fertilize when it's hot it will scorch your grass) and let fall and winter rain do its thing it should reestablish. To be on the safe side in mid to late September - whenever we start having consistent rain re-seed your lawn with the seed that your sod is made out of and it will fill in the fried beyond repair bits.
Just another opinion: skip the typical lawn if you don’t have young kids. Instead plant a perennial pollinator friendly garden with bunchgrasses mixed in. It will be both budget friendly and water-wise...not to mention release you of time consuming task of watering, manicuring and constantly re-seeding and fertilizing.
@@zaria5785 Oh I am very pro this. Especially helpful for yards that flood! I actually really dislike the concept of lawns and would never have one for myself. But people are so very attached to them :/
Congrats on your new home - it's so beautiful! And thankfully all that drama is behind you. Moving just sucks. I'm moving on Saturday and I want to burn all my belongings. 🥴
I would have been in a RAGE if that happened to me when moving... moving is stressful enough, but when you think you have everything figured out and then that happens?!.... & WILD that THAT was their solution too, Aug 18, what in the world were they thinking? I am so glad you had friends to lean on who could help you out in a pinch. SWEET JESUS - 52?! I am in Alberta, that heat wave was no joke, we broke records all over the place and we are starting another stretch of sweltering hot. No one has ac here either Honestly, I am shocked you are able to give us this update so calmly! You are a total trooper, you went through so much! I hope your stuff and your car arrives quickly!
Sorry about the unfavorable circumstances that led this video on, but also Lowkey so excited to watch new content!!! 😅 so happy for you guys and the new house!
I would also recommend getting an air purifier soon. This year we are (Vancouver and surrounding areas) supposed to get really bad wild fire smoke. Grass will grow back in fall once it starts to rain...it will survive! Sorry about all this moving difficulties...let's hope it will just go better from here! I have my fingers crossed for you.
OMG I can imagine the rage about the movers and not being able to get a hold on anyone it’s the worst! But I hope that everything starts to take shape and take it slow, breathe and lots of hugs from Mexico 💕 crossing my fingers for you and very happy to see Meryl it’s fine as well 😊✨
I live in Quebec city in Canada and new construction houses pretty much all have a AC unit (at least near the bedrooms). Our new house had one on the second floor. Couldn't live without it...Winter are cold as F*#$. But summer are starting to be deadly with the heatwaves becoming more common.
Here in Washington State, it's the same story. It's very rare for homes to have AC units installed. I lived in GA for more than 20 years with AC. That heat wave in WA literally was the most brutal weather I have lived through. Also, during this time, portable AC units & fans were sold out everywhere.
As a Norwegian, I do understand 😂 We only have around 3 unbearably hot days per year, and a normal table fan is enough 👏🏼 The electricity bills from heating in winter are crazy, though!
We had a similar move from Ontario to Alberta. Movers were a scam on both ends, took a week longer than they said so we were 3 weeks without our stuff in a new city where we knew no one, had a one year old baby. We were told not to ship our car because it would get scratched so my husband had driven it while my son and I flew. Absolute nightmare!
So glad to see you back. I swear….moving never goes accordingly. Cheers to Sam and Matt!!!! That was so wonderful of them to help…I couldn’t imagine how defeated you must have felt Allana!!!….big hugs 💗💗💗
Your moving story almost sounds like mine haha I literally signed on my home and the snow storm hit in Texas the next day🤦🏻♀️ but it’s still surreal having my own home! So excited for you!

Girl, oh boy. I am so sorry for how stressful that all went down. I’m so grateful you have a support system and resources to get it turned around in your favor. Great idea for the air tags!
Wow that was the definition of “when sh*t goes downnn”. Glad you guys pushed through despite the circumstances. Congrats on the new home and hope it is smooth sailing from here on out!
The best laid plans and all that. If you are allowed a bath with water restrictions, take some baths and use the bath water to water the grass afterwards. Also, get some water butts from guttering drainage set up for next year, then you can collect rain water to have on standby for when hot weather affects you’re lawn. We’ve got 2 water butts because we go away in our caravan for weeks at a time in summer and the U.K. can’t cope with heatwaves, we end up with hosepipe bans. That way, when it goes brown, you can revive quicker with regular watering from the water butts. Any water that isn’t full of washing up liquid or bleach can be used as water for your lawn instead of letting down the plug hole. If bath is on the back of house where lawn is, siphon the water using a long pipe rather than carrying it in a watering can or buckets.
Wow. I’m literally sitting on an air mattress with my work laptop in an empty apartment and I’ve never related to a video so much!!! lol Our items are still in transit and won’t be here for another week or so. My move is from Wisconsin to California. Thank you for the video and for sharing your experience!
I’m sorry about the difficulties you’ve had with your move. Someday you’ll laugh about it and it’s always a story to tell. Question about the AirTags…their range is only 30 feet. Anything beyond that, you have to report them lost on the FindMy app and then they will ping off of other Bluetooth devices nearby the tags. Also, after 3 days of being out of range, they ping a constant sound. Maybe you’re just seeing the last known location?
Hi Jen, I need advice too. We moved from Hawaii to Las Vegas, half of our boxes are still missing after many months and my laptop is in one of the boxes. Can I still trace it? We had shipped them by USPS. And yes Missing Mail claims were filed, no luck.
I am so sorry, I think everyone who has ever moved… and those of us who have had the crazy stress of long distance or cross country moves all reallllly relate!!! PS your NARS cream bronzers came back in stock for one last time.
I live in Arizona so I’m used to seeing people complain about hear when it’s 100* F so I had to check out what 52* C was in Fahrenheit and I can’t believe it got that hot. You never really get used to the heat but I can’t imagine you all dealing with that out if there blue. This summer my car got up to 133* F according to the thermometer for outside! Over here just as miserable as you all!!
Even if it wasn't as smooth as it could have been WE ARE ALL SO PROUD OF YOU BOTH! ♥️♥️ Congratulations on your beautiful love and your beautiful home and your beautiful life! It warms our hearts to see you happy.
I was thinking of you when I read about the heat wave in Canada - we had 40 Degrees about two years ago in Germany but 52 - I couldn't even imagine! Fingers crossed that was it for this year... I'm really sorry about your exhausting moving experience. But I do envy you for living near beautiful Vancouver Island - that was one of the nicest, most relaxed holidays I ever experienced and I hope to get to go back one day.
God, you poor souls. What a story! And FIFTY TWO DEGREES CELCIUS?! I can't get over that! I'm in Scotland and cannot fathom that! The new house looks like a lovely space - really hope your stuff arrives soon and that you, Dejan & Meryl get all sorted and settled soon. xxx
Congrats on the move Alanna!! I moved from Sask to Victoria 9 months ago and even as someone used to Prairie heat, last week on the Island LEVELLED me lol. Welcome back to the West Coast!!! 🦋🌞🌈✨🍀💫
I actually trained my senior kitty not to scratch!! She prefers cardboard first of all. So catching on that she did, I got those perforated cardboard scratchers. I used catnip on them & kept praising her. Then I used a treat, (freeze dried chicken bits) I kept them nearby & gave her one every time she scratched. Even at night from my bedroom, if I heard scratching I’d run out & say good girl, good girl. Once in a while she stretches on the arm of the sofa & I tell her NO. I shoo her away gently. All my life I’ve had our kitties ruin furniture! This worked. It took a lot of watching her but worth it. 💕 you!
OMG, everything, the story, your house, THOSE CHAIRS!!!!! Please get Meryl multiple scratching posts so that she doesn't need to wreck anything. Congratulations on this new stage in your life.
I cannot begin to imagine how stressful this experience must have been for you, it was traumatic just hearing about it 😅. I hope you get your car and all your stuff very very soon 🤞🤞🤞 your house looks absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait for the future house content and hope you’re both very happy in your new house 🏠 ❤️
Idk why but this video is giving me so much comfort. Lol I've had a shitty week and I've been waiting on someone to come fix my fridge for the last 24hrs but I think you guys show that it's ok to be sad and frustrated and upset but that things still work out. Life goes on
You probably won't see my comment, but maybe it will help someone out. Try watering your grass in the evening, it will have more time to soak in before it dries out. Light colour blinds are the best because they don't get as heated as the dark ones. Humidifiers are good for cooling the air in the house. If you have a basement it's a good place to sleep ( if it's livable) because it doesn't get as hot in there. I hope everything else goes well ❤️
So sweet of you to update us during all that is going on in your life! So happy for you and your new home is beautiful, can’t wait to see how you are going to decorate it. Have been following you for many years and when you said you are leaving toronto, it made me sad even though we have never met!
I’m so sorry things didn’t go to plan. Isn’t that always the case with cross country moves? Local move?! WTF? How could they get that so wrong? 😭 Things can only go up from here. 🤗. Glad Matt came through for you guys. I would have been in absolute tears as well.
Allaaaanaaaa! I was so grief stricken yet livid on your behalf when you were describing all the moving woes you two have been through!! My God!! And that house is divine!!! 😍😍 That arch caught my attention right away! I love the furniture, the layout of the house...! Here's to you never having 52° heat in or around you ever again! ❤❤
We are coming up on a year of being in our new home and while not everything has gone to plan it is just now starting to feel like our home for…. Forever? Congratulations and I am so excited to see it all come together.
Yay for the first night's sleep in your new home! I remember that excitement when we purchased ours, first night on an air mattress, hot AF because no air conditioning, and we moved during the summer too. I'm beyond excited for you, Dan & sweet Meryl. Please don't apologize, so many things were beyond your control. We're just happy to see your faces. Finger & toe papettes crossed. 🎉💞🤞🌞🎉
my cats had wrecked my previous fabric couches, but I got a "leather" one from ikea & they don't even touch it, but be careful with how long meryls claws get! my cat would stretch up the side or front and leave little picked marks which doesn't look great, but if you make sure to always keep the claws clipped it should be fine!!
Me and my bf just recently bought a house and ran into similar moving issues… I scheduled the electric and water to be turned on the day we would be arriving at the new house, but when we arrived it was so HOTTT in the house. No electric for the first week because the utilities company got the date wrong on their end. It was unbearable, but we made the best of it! I’ll be thinking of you guys and sending best wishes as you continue to get settled in!! 💞 Congrats to you two!
Gah!!! Seeing your excitement to be in your new house after everything you've been through made me so happy!!! Stoked to see the evolution as the space gets furnished and officially becomes HOME. 🥰 Sending all the happiness even through the bumps in the road.
Lan!! You guys are troopers. Honestly. And now I love Sam and Matt even more. Thank goodness they came through for you, I would’ve been sobbing as well. I’m sorry but that first moving company made one too many mistakes, that is just not OK. But you are there, you’ve got a mattress and some beautiful furniture, Meryl is OK. Keeping you in my thoughts for sure that everything comes quickly going forward. It’s a beautiful space! ❤️
CANT. WAIT!!! to see how you and Dejan decorate your (hopefully) forever home!!! i don't think you want to move again after this debacle with the moving company! can't wait!
I am so sorry for all of your problems. Your home seems truly wonderful and I so hope you will have many many happy years there. Big hug to all of you.
Omg we are planning a move across Europe literally from one end to the other and I am freaking out now after this movers horror story 😭 hope all ends well for you though 🤞🏼
What a wonderful vlog- omg how little things change... My dh of 44 yrs and I have gone through this many times in our years. It took forever before we bought our 1st home (and 2nd etc.). We wish we could do it all again, even with the same hassles and mixups you've had and many more. I love your home/couch/chairs- love you vloggin for us, love the fat boys :) it's all wonderful, a new beginning. Thanks for keeping us apprised!
I’m so sorry you are going through this.. I would be livid. Absolutely LIVID. But what can you do? You have a great attitude and that’s all it takes. You’ll have stories about this for years.. praying your stuff gets to you swiftly and intact. ❤️💫❤️
I would have been so pissed at the moving company and I’m glad they gave you your deposit back, as they should have. I love your new home and I’m happy for both you and Dejan. Good luck with the rest of your furnishings.
Oh my goodness I am so excited for you both! 🥰 I can’t believe the hiccups you have experienced along the way, but once everything finally sorts itself out you are going to feel so satisfied. I love watching your videos and honestly don’t mind the delayed posts, you take 👏your 👏 time 👏 ❤️
Your new sofa and chairs look so chic. Now you need a beautiful massive rug to go in between and under them. I envy the fun you are going to have picking out all your homewares!
My apartment in Edmonton used to get up to 50 degrees... Even though I hated it, it prepared me for the heatwave of South Eastern British Columbia. No A/C club ☀️
Holy hell.. literally! I just did the Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion and 125 degrees f!!! Omg, I live in a desert climate in West Texas and I have never seen 125 degree temperatures.. 115 is typical for summer. I would’ve drowned in my own sweat lol..but not really lol
Congrats on your move and new home! Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with the moving company. I moved to Vancouver from Toronto 3 years ago and I used a company called Augusta movers and they were wonderful. I thought I would leave their name here for you or anyone else needing to move. All the best with the rest of your move and settling! ❤️
Oh man I am so sorry about those darn movers! I would have been so upset too. I love your new house 🏠, beautiful. Very excited to see the progress, slowly but surely. Don't even worry about the filming too much, you have so much going on right now & I will absolutely pray for you guys!! Take care xoxo 😘💕
I haven't watched the whole video yet... But pretty classy of you not to mention the first moving company by name.... With that said LOL you gotta put that company on BLAST lol that's TERRIBLE!
Ugh trust me I’ve wanted to LOL but honestly it wasn’t even the poor movers fault it was the guy on the phone who booked it in 😭😂 hoping it was an honest mistake but also they need to get their ish AND phone lines together 🙈
Congratulations on your new home, it’s lovely! I’m sorry that there were so many hiccups, but now you are home! Hopefully the rest of your stuff comes without anymore delays.
Hey Lan, a good contractor worth reaching out to in the area that I would HIGHLY recommend is - Belcarra Contracting, they're a small contracting team based out of Vancouver. I use to work in design in Vancouver so hopefully that contact helps you.
Wow ... just wow! Moving is stressful enough - I know, our family spent over 25 years moving every few years in Canada and abroad with the military - but this takes the biscuit. Glad that things are beginning to work out and best wishes for eventually getting settled in your beautiful new home.
I had to confer 52° to Fahrenheit and HOLY SHIT. As someone who lives in the southern US, I am very used to hot and humid summers, but I would absolutely cry and probably hallucinate if that was the temp of my house 😭. You guys really went through it.
Ugh!! so sorry the move was extra stressful through no fault of your own... must've been incredibly frustrating. Happy all is well now... hope the weather stays bearable for you up there 💛
Congratulations on your new house! I am so sorry it was not a smooth move. I can tell you are so happy! Looking forward to more videos! I pray the rest of your stuff gets there soon. ❤️ so lovely your new home! Also so happy you guys are close to both of your parents houses.
Yeah there is no way i would have done the split. I would be afraid my things would go missing. Actually with them having a log of your things i would really be worried about things going missing.
This is a HUGE a problem in the military community right now too! People having to move to new postings, packers come to pack up but then then BOOM! No trucks showing up. No available drivers. No space. It’s insane! People having to move for work and getting stuck in hotel rooms for weeks with things the movers don’t take (plants, liquids, etc) with pets children and babies 😭😅 I’m SO sorry this happened to you too ❤️❤️❤️
Listening to your moving experience was bringing up my own past traumatic experiences with moving companies 😬 It’s crazy how many bad ones there are, and all your personal belongings are at their mercy.
I’ve been so excited to see this video, but now I feel so bad about your moving nightmare. I guess perfect plans don’t exist lol! But please don’t worry that much about your video schedule, the most important thing is that you get settled into the next chapter of your life with ease and joy, like it should be! And my advice as an architect/interior designer: don’t rush to buy any more furniture before your stuff arrives and before you can really spend some time in the place, to properly feel it out and see how everything works. Rushing can lead up to hating your own furniture! Although the sofa and chairs look great!
They sell these like giant squares of double sided tape basically that I put on the corners of my couch when my cats were kittens and then we put a scratching post right next to the couch. One they got used to scratching the post, we took the sheets of tape off. Apparently they don’t like the feeling of the tape on their paws. Maybe if Meryl starts going after the leather that could be something you try!
Officially never moving again (and I rent)! Your saga traumatized me more than my last move! Can’t wait to see what you are going to do with the house! Very excited and happy that you got your very own HOUSE!
How terrible! Please be sure to let the better business bureau know about the first movers who broke their scheduled moving day contract. I know once settled you will be able to laugh at the intense stress that happened and enjoy every bit of the new home. Congratulations dear and wishing you the best in this fabulous new home adventure.

What a move! That’s so exhausting. Moving really is the worst. Congrats for finally being in the house!
This is so intense! I can't believe the bad luck you've had with the move, but so happy it is coming together slowly! Congrats on the new home 💕
Congratulations Dejan and Allana. Beautiful new home, I hope the drama is behind you. Bless your new home
S**t happens but all you can do is to stay positive, both of you are now closer to your families and in your own home! Congrats! 🥳
Awww Lan, it's so good to see you in any capacity. This how much fun it'll be to make your house into a home. The house is absolutely gorgeous...
You said 52 and I didn’t even know Celsius went that high
Oh my goodness I am so excited for you both! 🥰
I can’t believe the hiccups you have experienced along the way, but once everything finally sorts itself out you are going to feel so satisfied.
I’m so sorry. What an experience. Happy you’re in your house. Can’t wait until Meryl is with you. Congrats 🎉 ❤️
Omg I've heard so many horror stories about movers. At least yours were nice and not just straight up scammers. But what an ordeal!
The fact that all you can see out your windows is big beautiful trees is amazing!
@@allanaramaa Totally! 100%
Totally agree, so nice of them, but someone should like casually send the company this video so they realize that they need to do better!
You guys really went through it.
convert* 🥴
First of all … just love you and second…thank goodness for good friends who come through for us! So glad you’re getting settled!
I can already picture a few BOP plants everywhere. Love it! Looks awesome
The light in this house... 👌🏼and the house in itself is beautiful. Wishing you all the best in this new chapter, can’t wait for what comes next 😍
after all the drama, i’m so happy for you guys 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Ugh!! so sorry the move was extra stressful through no fault of your own... must've been incredibly frustrating.
I have experienced 46 in Melbourne and that was bloody insane and we get hot dry summers being Australia. I cannot FATHOM 52 degrees!!
People having to move for work and getting stuck in hotel rooms for weeks with things the movers don’t take (plants, liquids, etc) with pets children and babies 😭😅 I’m SO sorry this happened to you too ❤️❤️❤️
Listening to your moving experience was bringing up my own past traumatic experiences with moving companies 😬
It’s crazy how many bad ones there are, and all your personal belongings are at their mercy.
😣 the moving curse is real for sure, so sorry you had to go through all that! Cheers to Sam and Matt for being absolutely stellar human beings 🥂
So excited for you guys! I’m sorry so many headaches happened with the move but your new house is beautiful!!!
It's been a long journey, but it is so wonderful to see you in your own beautiful space! The house looks pretty perfect. So happy for you guys xx
Omg. You are so nice and calm about this. I’d be out of my mind! I hope your stuff gets there soon!
Your happy face at the end showing us round your beautiful new home 😍 congrats you two 💙
How terrible! Please be sure to let the better business bureau know about the first movers who broke their scheduled moving day contract. I know once settled you will be able to laugh at the intense stress that happened and enjoy every bit of the new home. Congratulations dear and wishing you the best in this fabulous new home adventure.
I’m so happy for you both! Congrats on the house. You will love being close to family. Family is the most important thing in life ❤️
