As an American, I find it sickening that people who come to America to live don't bother to learn the language of the country they came to. My neighbor has lived in their house for 12 years and we still can't have a conversation with each other. It's not my duty to learn a foreign language in my own country

Both have a very important role and need to iron out their relationship quickly. Mayor Whitmire started strong but talked way too much; on and on like the politician he’s been for years. Lina has been through several storms already and has developed good crisis management skills. Provide key facts and instructions to the public. Be brief.
Lina handled covid horribly, she has the completely wrong attitude, clearly too young to be a judge, she has no real life experience. Also U.S. officials should only be addressing the public with English.

TBH Judge Hidalgo was very thorough in keeping the public informed. She works very hard. Mayor Whitmire is also doing a great job. Yolanda is very pretty beautiful lady.

Thank you, Rep. Jones for setting the record straight. Whitmire, not Hidalgo, was out of line. He comes into the judges press conference, and tries to makeup his own rules and protocols. Classic case of a lone star good ole boy who refuses to let a young Latina do her job which was to run this press conference.

Glad to see someone working for the people during a time of distress and loss. We need team spirit!, instead for divisive poli-tricks! Judge Hildago has way more experience in this area than the current Mayor. He has 40+ years of political experience, however that doesn't mean he understands the full scope of hurricane and storm preparedness. This is HTX! We can/will come together for the sake of the well being of our entire City and Harris County.
Yeah how could a politician working for over 40 years at a job side by side with people that do all kinds of jobs like disaster relief be trusted.. instead how about a person that’s only 33 years old and made a mess of Covid.
What experience does Hildago have she got caught with the COVID scandal and than mysteriously getting depressed.I am not a doctor but people who have a depression problem don't usually act like she does.
No investigation, no right to speak! The legal process will determine who's innocent or guilty. All else is speculation.
She's unprofessional. She should have raised her concerns and issues in a meeting behind closed doors. Also something seems wrong with her. Why is she speaking so slowly and off? Like she didn't have her thoughts together before intervening. She basically interrupted based on her emotions which is why she couldn't get her thoughts out.

This encounter is being made more of this than it was. The mayor obviously did not know protocol. Hildalgo being the incumbent who knows the ropes should not have said that last little snippet. The mayor is definitely not like Turner so Hildalgo probably feels uncomfortable with a new personality as mayor. We should all leave it at that and not make mountains out of mole hills🙏

There's definitely some bad blood between these two. Watching the whole thing, it's hard to find one person who was "more in the wrong". But I'm going to put it on more on Hidalgo being like granddaughter age to Whitmire that it would be nice to give that grace and respect to a vast elder. I voted for both these people, and I will say that Mayor Whitmire at least praised Hidalgo first, and then she interrupted him to push the Spanish translation. I mean, this isn't 1978, who the hell still watches the evening news on the regular anyway. People today get their updates from phone or social media alerts, and Spanish speakers have apps for that.

Are you aware that the several issues he has resolved as mayor (that the previous mayor refused to do) were very important. Fire fighters had not been paid for YEARS! The city of houston sent water bills to people for $10,000 and more. They acknowledged their error but still demanded you pay the money. People who owned empty lots got huge water bills. The city acknowledged there was no water service to the lot but still demanded they be paid. The new mayor put a stop to that. The old mayor and the county judge had no problem with that.
260,000 cases of murder, rape, pedophilia etc….were not investigated. The families were told sorry we can’t look into that for you. The new mayor changed that.
Maybe you believe fire fighters shouldn’t be paid, if you own an empty lot you should pay a water bill every month and if your loved one is raped or murdered than no one should investigate that. That you would prefer the type of mayor that has allowed all these things to happen. That is what has been happening in this city before the new mayor put a stop to it.
