To be shot and murdered is horrible but to be presumed a criminal without evidence, hunted down like an animal, cornered, taunted, and shot dead without remorse primarily because you are a black man who is jogging is beyond dispicable. In my opinion, they got off easy. They took Arbery's life in cold blood but they will live. God help us. We are all humans and should love others as we do our own self. God never intended for race to be in that equation and we should never make race a factor either.

But I do understand the eye for an eye mentality. They will all die in prison. Doubt if anything changes during the appeal process. When the Judge said "Life plus twenty", Travis at last got the message. You can see him nod slowly with understanding. It finally got through to him that he must pay for his crime and that all his vain imaginations regarding his righteousness in this case have come to naught.
As for the father who taught him hate, his reaction to his sentence was anger. He still does not get it. He does not even appear to understand that he is the reason that his son will spend the rest of his life behind bars. The good thing is that he will have the rest of his life in the State Penitentiary to figure it out.
Roddy Brian is paying the price for a life of bigotry, and for his cruelty in going after a pedestrian with a truck. He has no remorse - only regret that this is happening to him, as though it was not his own doing.

He did block him, but how was he supposed to know he was going to be murdered? There was no meeting ahead of time, no conspiracy. I don't get it. Life with parole after 30 years seems much too harsh for someone with no intent and no knowledge that a murder would occur.

All I kept hearing in my head throughout this trial, was the bodycam footage of the father saying, " Travis shot him. Hell, if I could have gotten a shot on him, I would have shot him myself". His facial expression and body language when saying it, was almost as if, he was mad and/or jealous, that he didn't get to shoot him. Like it was a trophy. smh.... The lies about the videos, and Mr. Arbery, were all smoke screens to hide their racial hate/motivation. A black man deciding to run from three white armed men with guns, boxed in and decides to fight for his life, anywhere in this country is understandable, and goes without saying. With the history and current, "we will pretend it's not like that anymore" state of the south, that same scenario is multiplied by 100! Mr. Arbery wasn't attacking them, he was being hunted and was trying to survive. I have never pulled a gun on anyone, I just wanted to TALK to, in any situation. The shooter said he didn't take the gun with him to shoot him? First off, you shouldn't have chased him. If you take a gun into a heated situation, more than likely, you're going to use it. If you take a rod n reel to a lake, more than likely, you have intentions to fish...smh... These things keep happening, because our country has never truly addressed racism. Instead, it did what it's best at, put a band aid on it, hoping it will be the pink elephant in the room, and just sweep it under the rug. Sure, we will throw out some crumbs in hopes to keep those being mistreated quiet and/or distracted. We go out of our way to abolish and try to remove anything from this country that we feel destroys it, people and/or groups. All except the one thing that seems to be part of the foundation, racial hate!! Every time they say it doesn't exist, these things happen, and these are just the ones that are caught on tape! "It's not as bad as it use to be"? Well, it use to be pretty dang bad, so that statement is not reassuring at all. We must do better.

Beautiful statement from the judge. "Thinking the worst of someone brings out our worst character. It's better to think the best of someone."
Three things the murders didn't do:
    1. Turn the other cheek when they saw the video. Let the cops do their job.
    2. Show mercy when pointing a loaded gun at someone and think about the consequences before pulling the trigger.
    3. Be accountable for taking a human life. They could have plead guilty for a lighter sentence. They still think they're innocent.
Everything the judge said about them was correct. They have no humanity left. Therefore life sentence is the best choice.

Weeks after Arbery was murdered and the tape was released, certain people had come out and said - "Well, if Arbery hadn't gone for the McMichael's gun then he'd still be alive. Just sayin! Just sayin!" Well, in that spirit, let me say this, "Well, if they didn't go after Arbery then they'd still be free men. Just sayin! Just sayin!"

I remember this in the news The video almost made me throw up, I cried. I live in Canada and I was beside myself. I thought at the time, 'it will be years before this comes to trial", and by pure happenstance of scrolling, I came across this sentencing! I completely missed it in the news. I am thrilled by the jury's verdict and the judge's sentencing. I agree with other comments that the judge was a great example for other judges. Oh, and to learn that others think these guys are innocent.....STILL? ..... are a very sad state and example of what is wrong with America today.

That Father was the old school racist and taught his son that horrible racism. A lot of cops that followed Clinton's New laws and became these sorry racists should be convicted like they were today. That Father that showed no remorse for what he did in raising a son to be just like him will have a lot of time to reflect on what he did to his son in not teaching that we are all humans .

When my daughter was a high schooler, & jogging on our street, a young white man called her racial slurs & other unkind comments. When I found out, I (the ONLY brown-skinned homeowner on my street), I knocked on the doors of ALL neighbors who had young men who lived there. I unapologetically accused all parents & accused their white young sons. At the last house, I found the young man who verbally & racially assaulted my beautiful intelligent teenager; his house had a HUGE cross hanging on the front door. The father was flat out shocked, repeatedly apologized and was embarrassed. My voice was loud so neighbors could hear, I stared at their cross as I spoke & I let them know that I had moved into the neighborhood 15-17 years before they did. I told the young man in front of his father, why don't you leave & go back where you came from? They moved out of the neighborhood within 6 months : ] The young man was about 20 years old, lived at home and I could hear his dad yelling at him after I walked away from their house. I told his father that he oughta be concerned that his adult son is saying threats towards a minor. I don't think 'Dad' expected me to say such a thing. Yeh, they moved out, quickly : ]

It sounds like you accused a lot of innocent people before you found the guilty one. Not sure what significance the cross has. You don't say how you knew this kid was guilty but apparently that was established and the father was shocked and horrified that his son would behave that way. Where did the kid come from? If he was 20 he might have come from right there. From what you're saying is sounds like the father was concerned. The kid shouldn't be talking that way to anyone, minor or not. If I was the father I would have kicked the kid out of the house. My kid would never do something like that so I would also investigate what was in his head that would have cause him to behave that way and I would have had him apologize personally to you daughter. I hope you received support from your other neighbors who were not involved in the incident.
