CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bourne (Matt Damon) rides a corpse down a stairwell; Manheim (Russell Levy) assassinates Conklin (Chris Cooper).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The best-selling suspense novel by late author Robert Ludlum comes to the screen for a second time, following a 1988 made-for-TV movie. Matt Damon stars as Jason Bourne, a barely alive amnesiac with a pair of bullet wounds in his back, pulled from the Mediterranean by Italian fishermen. Bourne's only clue to his own identity is a bank account number etched on a capsule implanted in his body. He quickly finds the Zurich bank where money, a gun, and a few identification documents await, but after he's pursued by security goons at the American consulate, Bourne realizes he can trust no one and offers a German gypsy named Marie (Franka Potente) ten thousand dollars for a ride to Paris. Encountering more professional killers bent on his destruction, Bourne discovers that he possesses a surprising degree of skill in combat, martial arts, and linguistics -- handy talents that clearly indicate his past includes work as a spy and assassin, but for whom? With Marie's reluctant help, Bourne edges closer to the truth, something CIA officials want concealed at all costs. The Bourne Identity co-stars Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, and Julia Stiles.

I remember seeing this in the cinema back then with a lot of friends. We nearly freaked out when he did this shooting-a-gun-upside-down-thing. Had never seen anything so badass before, we weren't prepared for this kind of action. Truly the start of a new genre. Taken, John Wick and many would not be the way they are without Bourne.
Even James Bond took notes from Bourne during Daniel Craig's era.
Well said, my man!
Curly Bill Brocious used that technique long before Borne. It's now called the Curly Bill Spin.
I love how the whole movie is very realistic until this scene
I mean I don't know if you watched the same movie that I did, but he limps away after this happens. So it is paying attention to realism, because Obviously he's kind of messed up. But also he is Jason Bourne, so he's quite literally on a different level than you or I am.
Just watched this movie for the first time last night. WHY DID THEY DO THIS SCENE??! Everything else in the movie was realistic and believable. This is just like the end of mission impossible when they drove the helicopter inside the tunnel and tried to kill Tom Cruise with the blades. Directors lose their minds after 95% of the movie is over for some reason.
@@jordanfelt5978 I mean, limping away doesn't make you survive a 6 stores fall and allows you to do a headshot in the meantime
@Reaperkiller85 It might have been more believable had it only been 3 stories but wow, looks like he fell 50 feet.
jumping from 4th floor was standard training regimen for OMON. If You have a body to cushion the blow, You may survive. But I felt it would have seemed more plausible, if he had not separated from the body mid fall - like he would have more controlled contact instead of just randomly landing on a dummy.
I like how he survived six flights of stairs... just like magic. Even if you had a human body to cushion you, you would have broken bones everywhere and you probably couldn't walk. But he survived. You want to know why. CAUSE HE"S JASON BOURNE!
Don't you just love it in the movies and on tv when the hero jumps off a train that is travelling at over one hundred miles an hour, when you hit the ground, you are still travelling at over onje hundred miles an hour, plot armour, no movie or tv star ahould be without it.
The human body can survive more than you'd expect. The fact that it is statistically unlikely to survive such a high fall doesn't mean with a bit of luck it's not possible, you pseudo intellectual nitwit
Oh c’mon he’s Jason Bourne after all.
How long did it take to you to think and write this, genius?!
I mean I don't know if you watched the same movie that I did, but he limps away after this happens. So it is paying attention to realism because Obviously he's kind of messed up. But also he is Jason Bourne, so he's quite literally on a different level than you or I am.
I love how he runs out of ammo after shooting that guy in the head on the stairs when he just put a new magazine in..
Bullet count. I think it's my bigger pet peeve. If your not going to do it right. Don't do it at all. John Wick was really good with this. And he kills way more people in his movie.
I really like to count bullets in Clint Eastwood movies. They are always such an important factor in every scene with gunfight.
Yeah, it's this pesky thing about magazines - they only have as many cartridges as you load into them beforehand. I agree that movie makers could always be more thoughtful in planning out and shooting their movies, but the mistakes that point to minute complexities which don't affect the plot don't bother me too much. He obviously got the gun inside the building because he didn't have one with him, and the Paris team obviously isn't used to this kind of intrusion. It's wise to keep at least one magazine fully loaded for use, but it's better to keep only one or two cartridges in the others to break in the magazine springs for easy loading. You don't want to keep them fully loaded because it will wear out the springs faster.
Whether Liman knew that, or intended that, I don't know. I doubt it. Whether CIA agents really care because their government-issue weapons are tax-dollar sponsored and can be replaced very easily, I have no idea, but would guess that they don't. What the director didn't scrimp on, however was the background for Treadstone and Jason Bourne, and that is why these films are so compelling, even if critics don't get them and fans can't explain why they are awesome.
jeebs9 John wick is one of my all time favorite movies, but the bullet count is a total joke especially in John Wick 2. Don't argue with me go watch a video on it or count yourself because I'm right. Also he didn't reload he was checking his mag, which is almost as stupid but not quite. If you're lazy the cinema sins for John wick points out some of the bullet count fails, definitely in the chapter 2 sins video.
That and how he shoots the first dude in the leg and then stares at him instead of double tapping
I'm gonna jump four stories and score a perfect head shot on my way down because I'm a badass.
Yeah. I did that last night. Piece of cake. I once had my left arm ripped off and I reattached it with my right arm. 100% Medical possible.
in real he would sneak down and get a head shot so quick the guy wouldn't know what happen.
Deja Vu lol youre cute asf
Deja Vu I once drove a car out of a plane on fire, not the car... I was on fire
I no it is kinda laughable . But he is the new james bond . Make allowances .Lol .
Bourne vs. physics. Bourne wins...
Emrah Karaca vay sendemi Bourne'cusun
Emrah Karaca He knows what hes doing and trained to relax when everyonr else would tense up. and he knows how get better from injuries like that imidiatly when everyonr else would see a doctor
Script Physics.
Plus after seeing some of the parkour guys vids, I DO think that falling that far and landing on a soft dead guy would partially work. He did get injured a bit.
Super.Chuck Sorry 60 feet? Broken bones. Relaxed or not.
Boldly creates uneven surface to land on increasing curves to bend and tear. Like physicals it's harder to land on water unless alter angle.
Didn't even break a bone in his body, not even his legs.
What this film loses in the staircase, it gains back by a large margin by having the only real suppressed sound effect in cinema that ive heard.
watch No country for old men, impressive suppressed sound of a shotgun :)
That is not at all what a suppressed pistol sounds like 😂
@@depht_ id beg to differ, not that I have a lot of experience but in my conscription i shot 9mm in an urban area and this reminds me exactly of that. Or atleast how the sound echoes off walls.
@@webbofishy4222 it doesn't make a "pew pew" type noise at all. It's still very, very loud, particularly indoors. Look up "shooting suppressed handguns in a house" or "How loud is a 45 suppressed" on CZcams. 👍
I've shot a lot of guns in my life. But shooting a gun upside down. They didn't teach me that one lol
Oh that's they were originally teaching that class to ppl who can't shot the gun right side up. Now its the super duper level.
You had good teachers
Well...technically it's the same thing. If the gun is being held straight out properly then the physics hasn't changed much. Imagine hanging by your feet on a wall and shooting a target. It would be easy. So it's not unreasonable that highly trained federal agents and military guys could slide across hoods and shoot someone or be upside down etc. Obviously not much Bourne type shit going on.
Well it works, though it's not going to be as pleasant as the way you handle it properly XD
I'm also guessing they didn't teach you to shoot somebody as you plunge down a stairwell on an unconscious body, either?
I love the sound of the suppressed pistol Manheim uses to kill Conklin. Especially when compared to the cheap and cheesy sound effects used in the stair sequence.
The suppressed gunshots you're referring to would be what an actual silencer sounds like. I have no idea where they found sounds like the suppressed shots fired in the stairwell though. Sounds like the silenced guns in the GoldenEye game for N64.
SkarekroThaJuggalo
Yes, I like them because they sound both great and realistic.
They were going to shut down Treadstone, so he was a loose end, most likely.
I don't care how unrealistic it seems. I will never stop loving Jason Bourne
Jason Bourne killed even physics
Wow, you must be really fun at parties.... Just kidding because you obviously don't get invited to any. Also, I don't know if you know this bud, but it's called a movie. It's not supposed to be perfectly realistic.
😂😂
I like how Bourne only kills when he feels he has to.
And he has to like all the time.
Im always dead when i watch this plunge scene, literally laughing my eyes out
The stairwell plunge is cool, but totally unnecessary considering his skills.
I would say this scene mad this movie hit rock bottom, but I think it was actually floor tile._.
+Deeson Jame guy has machine gun to abuse before he even get to bourne, surely bourne could've just ran by going back into the room and find another way out, but that's too pussy.
All movies have "laps in logic"
Like with all of the technology at wikanda and they chose to fight hand to hand.
Great job writers
I disagree...here's how I see it. The guy down the stairwell had an automatic. Bourne knew the chances of him getting shot even if he came out of cover was high, it wouldn't match with his pistol. He could even get accidentally shot. In order to guarantee his win, he would have to get the element of surprise. The guy down the stairwell would have never expected bourne to come that way. Bourne knew where in the stairs he would be based on the noise of his footsteps. It was a calculated risk and Bourne was right.
What if there was another bad guy waiting for him downstairs?
0:45 that sound mixing...sounds like the reload sound from Goldeneye N64.
Terrible sound effects, obviously wasn't in the budget.
1:05 is that a shotgun sound?!? LMMFAO
It sounds like the reload sound in the arcade rail shooter game Maximum Force.
Come on now Bourne we both kno yo ass could have walked down the steps. Stoo being so damn dramatic.
@Zayd Noor
Huh? How do you act "black" tf?
@Zayd Noor What? 😂😂😂
This scene is completely ridiculous. I love it. Also Jason could've just launched the body to distract the guy and shoot him there but I guess jumping down the staircase is much cooler.
I’ve never seen anyone so badass to use a dual wield with one gun upside down and using his pinky to pull the trigger. I mean that is so badass. 😂😂
Bourne VAC banned
He did a reverse KQLY
+zz tarry Reverse KQLY style, my friend.
shotartist :DDDDD
"Only a true Samurai can hold his sword with a broken hand, while unconsious, in a raging river." - Afro Samurai
He’s like Hendrix, with the guns. He’s no killer...he’s a freaking artist
I really like the interiors, the room décor and design in the first Bourne film. I particularly liked his apartment in Paris. I just thought that I'd get that in, although it has nothing to do with this clip.
Manheim's face is perfect for the role!
0:44- 1:05 TimeSplitters reload/change weapon effect sound
Yet alone only this scene is a proof how badass movie that was. No CGI no bullshit. Pure action ❤️
this comment would make the CGI team very happy: "The stairwell at the end action sequence was no stairwell at all. They had about a half a flight of actual stairs. The rest was created by visual effects supervisor Peter Donen and his team."
@@The_guy_on_the_internet that's sick! but how do you know?
I liked that he didn't just walk away from that. Like, you can tell that it hurt him. All it did was save his life, which was all he needed....it really didn't spare much else.
That staircase stunt is the one thing in this movie that hasn’t aged well
That and Matt Damon's terrible overacting in a few scenes. "I don't know who I AAAAAAAAMMMM!"
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Overacting? The man was having a panic attack. How would you act if you lost your entire memory and a secret organisation was trying to take you out literally around every corner?
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 braindead opinion
When I saw this scene, I was like “ man this dude trickshotting in rl”
LOL, this is legit a type of shot you would see in a comic book or an anime LOL.
Imagine if he missed
Bourne falls all the way down and the guy's just like "Are you fucking kidding me? I just ran all the way up man...
easy kill for the enemy then, he would just have to lean down and fire from above
Bullet rain
I always wondered why Bourne doesn't just go back in the room and ambush the last guy. Fighting on a stairwell is just so risky.
This is probably my least favorite action scene from the Bourne trilogy. Otherwise these films pride themselves on making at least semi-realistic action sequences. But bodysurfing down 4 floors and scoring a perfect headshot on the way down? This isn't The Matrix. Luckily, they seemed to learn from it in the more realistic sequels.
+OleScrubby Everyone I was with started laughing when that scene happened. The film is played quite straight and realistic until that moment, but then it just takes you out of the film.
They were originally going to have a more action heavy ending but changed it to this more low-key one. After 9/11, they figured people weren't ready yet for another explosion heavy movie.
It was a last minute addition to the movie and thus there wasn't very much time for the choreography. Given that, I think they did ok, but still it's their least well done fight.
Woah. Thank god its just a movie. I thought it was real at first.
I think it because back at the time of its building process, the Matrix saga is still a hit, cause a lot of action movies back then (forgot the names of what I am referring to) got some action scenes that may not feel very realistic but looks amazing. The end of this fight scene however, even though some say that it is not realistic, still, it is badass and one of those scenes that you would instantly remember within the Bourne series
This is by far the best scene in the entire movie!
Wait a minute! How did he not break his bones or die from that fall?
Batman: I don't know. Maybe it's because.... Maybe it's because--
HE'S JASON BOURNE!!!
HISHE Reference lol
+Ariel Jones he died, then he resurrected himself.
Jesus Christ its Jason Bourne
Maybe it's because.. helicopter..
To be fair nobody says he didn't break bones. We only see that he was able to walk away. He could have broken several ribs and we see him try to use his left hand to get up and then pull it back towards his body and use the right one. That could indicate a broken or in some other way injured left arm.
HISHE actually did this scene, and they got it right.
totally not plausible...STILL Badass!
"WHAT IS TREADSTONE"??!!
Great movie
This movie is better than all Jame Bonds movies! It is a pity they don’t make many!
The stairwell scene prob one of the best scenes in history
Jason Bourne is totally awesome and also is at his best!
0:12 Dat pinky trigger finger
Thats a proper trigger pinky. Just like the proper tea drinking pinky. All the same nowadays.
1:21 When Jason reloads he actually released the slide after he load the clip but for some reason it was muted ...
2:09 Professional assassin assembling his weapon

Gets out of a Twingo.
Why did he shoot him?
@@siiliinsky because that dude was WAAAAY too incompetent to be left alive
It's for drawing less suspicion lol.

me too
hahah same here :D
Where are the broken, protruding bones?!
Xd.
me 7 i cant count
That has to be one of the coolest stunts you will ever see.
they had a good product placement for SIG during the trilogy.
nah some of those pistols are HK
+SwissCheeseOnaPlate The one Bourne was using is actually a Walther P5
He used dead baldy as a mattress that is badass
Cara sou muito doente pelos os filmes do Jason Bourne muito bom parabéns ❤️❤️❤️
This is the only scene that really takes me out of the movie.
reminded me of those warner bros cartoons. love the sound of that guys gun at the end.
Love those Goldeneye reload sounds
I love the bourne movies. I saw this way long before HISHE
I love how he reloads his gun at the top of the stairs, shoots once, then reloads again at the base of the stairs... wtf?
0:23 So whack your boss used this sound clip for the gold club, and the clock? Good to know.
Thank you so so much for this. I’ve been replaying this part of the clip for the last 20 minutes desperately trying to figure out where I’d heard it before. So thank you again!
Nah, you've broken everything and you're not walking for the rest of your life.
Very professional. No fancy movement.
This clip is used in the game, Whack Your Boss for the golf club and clock kill. Specifically the beginning bit where they exchange punches.
for reference: 0:23 to 0:32
"I'm invincible! Oh why did I just do that?"
now this is over the top.......can't handle these
0:00 Bourne with the Professor's Walther p5 compact - such an awesome handgun.
I Like How Jason Bourne Holding Gun with Silencer!
best scene from any movie ever
The only unnecessary and unrealistic scene in th e movie.
0:50 New mag.
1:06 One single shot.
1:10 Empty mag.
1:20 New mag.
Incredible.
It may not be the most realistic action scene in the movie, but it is far more believable than Indiana Jones flying off a plane on a balloon boat and landing unscathed. Here, at least Jason is scathed from the fall.
I have to agree. The inflatable-boat-plane-jump in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was one of the worst and unrealistic stunts I’ve ever seen.
@@jordanelza8806 At least he didn't use a fridge
Agreed, but the first time we ever saw this like back when the film was released, this was the greatest stunt jump of the entire film.
best action film ever made
genial toda la saga de bourne.tambien he visto el legado y esta muy bien
I agree with you 👍
Chuck Norris just found a new favorite movie scene.
1:06 A clean headshot. Sweet.
If you look carefully, it seems as though he lands with his feet on his ankles, that initial fracture would give him that little bounce forward, where he actually just braces because he has landed with his feet on bone, falls forward and hugs the body rolling of casually to the side.
Good point.
He must be playing One In The Chamber. "You're IN the money!"
The way he holds that pistol upside down tho 👌😆
Like Death the Kid from Soul Eater.
How is it that he decided jumping down the stairwell was his best option?
Gravity: Jesus Christ it's Jason Bourne.
*Why did he put in a new clip when he hit the floor? He put in a brand new clip before the plunge and only fired one shot during the free fall*
Exactly! I've this scene before in the past, but watching this youtube video... I noticed the one-bullet-magazine thing for the first time. Sad thing is that if I watch this in the future, that's what I'm going to see when this scene comes on. Can't unsee it. :/
That was ridiculous! I completely forgot about this scene! hahaha
Thanks! :)
1:08 - the stunt dummy 😂😂😂😂
Looked like something out of the Naked Gun.
Nothing anywhere near as fucking awesome as this happens ever again in this series.
i will try that scene floating downstair 🤣😅😅
he fired the gun upside down at the beginning lolol
Seeing this film at 13, the cussing always cracked up, including the use of "BULLSHIT!".
If anyone has ever played whack your boss at the 0:23 this sound effect is used on whack your boss if you click the clock or golf club this is where the sound effect came from.
I asked the same question. Apparently in some of the other films people would reload only once and have it last for ages until it got to a dramatic bit where suddenly there are no bullets left.
The action man of the century
The way he used the body to break his fall😲😲😲😲😲
Right. It really depends on how you fell and how serious the impact was. If you saw, the guard was a heavyset man, so he was quite overweight. When Bourne landed the heavyset guard's bulk took the majority of the impact, yet Bourne-very realistically-still got a little wounded.
So good so inovator!
its better than most movies, usually they have magical guns that reload themselves and only run out of ammo at the dramatic scene
Annnnnd that is how death the kid's weapon was inspired from this movie
"It's just been revoked."
Was he firing a revolver upside down ?????🤣
Was on board for the whole movie - then this scene happened - and I burst out laughing 😂
.. still a great movie tho 👍
1:08
That is a REALLY good silencer.
he changes his magazine in his pistol at the top of the stairs, jump out and shoot a shot and lands on the floor and switches magazine again why 😳😳😳😳😳
Because the mag only had one round in it.
HISHE!
Thank you HISHE for making this realistic.
Anyone else hear the two different gun sounds at 0:08 and 0:10
yes, 0:08 from bourne's p5 compact, fired by bourne to stun the other guy and break out of his grip; and 0:10 from the other guy's suppressed pt945, now taken by bourne.
yes from two different guns
It doesnt depend on the guns. The Walther was not suppresed
