Saying Villa have been lucky with injuries is extremely harsh. They’ve had 3 ACL’s, two from GW1 and have had 5-9 players out the entirety of a season with a squad that is much smaller and has had much less money spent on it then say a Chelsea or a United. I wouldn’t call going to a European Semi Final with Matty Cash RM and John Duran the only senior player on the bench lucky tbh. Team of the season/Emery manager of the season clearly for me. Tell anyone at the start of the season Arsenal do below average/average in all the cup competitions and are in another title race but miss out just by a few points and many wouldn’t have been shocked by that, but very few would’ve said that that Villa get 4th and get to a European Semi. Really interested to see how they bolster in the summer because before big injuries to Torres, Tielemans and Kamara, they were keeping up with the top 3 with a chance to go top at Christmas

Buendia a few days before GW1, Mings midway through the first game, Kamara midway through the season. Between them and Ramsey they saw 114 starts and 9965 minutes last year in the PL. This year, that was down to 29/2535 inc. Mings’ start against Newcastle.
Obviously every team has injuries but claiming Villa - with a higher fixture count and fewer resources - have been lucky with injuries when they’ve played minus 4 key players from last season for most of the year is… misleading.

@@granth1238But let’s also not pretend that we’ve seen them (Lavia or Fofana) in Chelsea’s current system. How do we know if they even work/fit for their side yet? Atleast with Villa’s missed players you can argue they impacted positive results and played well for emery with a decent sample size. Nkunku maybe because when he played he’s had some impact but for someone like Reece James, as great as he is, you know what you get with him. You should expect him to miss chunks of a season he’s a top player at his position but he’s the most injury prone player in the league

Not sure what Pat is on about when he says Villa been lucky with injuries. Yes rivals have had injuries but Villa have had some of the worst injury luck in the league and have had to balance that alongside a deep run in Europe (which rivals haven’t had to contend with). Villa have had Mings, Buendia and Kamara out with ACLs, Ramsey out pretty much all season, injuries to key players like Torres, Tielemans , Carlos and Moreno during the season.
With better injury luck and a shorter European campaign Villa easily could have got high 70 points and top 4 even more comfortably. i'll be surprised if Emery doesn't qualify Villa for UCL again next season with key players back and strengthening the squad.
Think there may be some bias against emery due to the arsenal past (where he actually did ok).

I do want to point out, Chelsea's injuries are so much worse than being talked about. Mount hasn't been like Lavia. Mount has in fact played more minutes than Nkunku, Chukwuemeka and Reece James this season. Even Lisandro Martinez has played more than those three in the league. Lavia has played 32 minutes. While Fofana, our 72 million signing, has played 0.

Ok so Villa missed there number 10 Buendia who was our best player in preseason hands down and we were all really excited, out for the entire season. Our best defender last season Mings out all season . Jacob Ramsey who was firing and captaining England U21 as was literally the best player on the pitch every game when he went down for Gordan to only get into the team for the last 2 games he missed btw. Moreno out for the first 5 months . Our entire first choice left hand side out. Kamara who you mentioned as one of our best players went down for a year mid season. Pau Torres for 3 months, Carlos, Tielemans, Consa all out for non insignifficant periods . And we won the top 4 play off table against the top 4 sides comfortably.. mostly helped by beating Arsenal TWICE. Who by the way did not have a zero loss record against the top 6. With all the money Arsenal spent and how ridiculous Pat is i'm glad Unai cost them the leauge.. Its not just about most minuets lost within 40 squad Chelsea its about how many first 11's . Chelsea did agree to spending a lot of money but that money technically isn't spent yet. Their strategy has clearly not been to sign players for immediate impact. It was to sign players who will develop together and aim to win a lot over the next decade. The club does not look at it as like "Enzo is a £107M player" or "Jackson is the worlds best striker when we signed him and he is guaranteed to give us 30 goals this season". They look at it from an investment perspective as "We have Enzo for 9 years and it will cost us £12M a year, we also have Jackson for 8 years which will be £3.75M a year ". So if you actually weighed up the cost of that squad per year compared to other clubs, the margin from that perspective isn't as extreme and it is more reasonable considering the strategy the club took with signing an extremely young team.

Abit of context is needed here,in 18 months Unai Emery has taken a mess of an Aston Villa side from 17th place last season with 13 games already played & only 1 point off bottom of the premier league to 25 games later 7th place & Europa conference league qualification. This season, Emerys 1st full season, Villa have pushed on in a big way getting to the semi finals in Europe & being the last British club in European competition, after a season which Villa have had so many injuries that have barely been mentioned by the mainstream media have gone on to finish 4th in the league & qualification for champions league football next season while spending very little in comparison with other premier league clubs,in Villas final league game with nothing to be gained/lost as everything had been decided beforehand,Villa had 12 key players out & botched together a weak make shift lineup. Arsenal have been building over 5 years, Liverpool over 9 years & Manchester city over 8 years spending shed loads of cash, Villas net spend under Unai Emery over 3 transfer windows is roughly £75-80 million. I disagree with your comments that Villa were lucky & only finished in the top 4 cos others weren't good enough, it's very disrespectful & complete nonsense, shame on you!!..... up the mighty Villa!!!

Guy in the middle is clueless saying Villa have been lucky with Injuries, they've easily been one of the unluckiest teams in the league. They've suffered the worst in the league for ACL's with 3 in total, all of which were first team players. They've had more games to play than Spurs, Chelsea, Untied and Newcastle. On top of that they've suffered considerable amount of games lost through injury to Pau, Carlos, Cash, Moreno, Ramsey, Tielemans and Zaniolo. Newcastle is the only team I would confidently say have had a worse time with injuries. If Villa had been "lucky" with injuries there would've been no fight for 4th and they'd be closer to where Liverpool are

Feel like a lot of comments here are looking at the Villa comments the wrong way.
From my understanding, the logic is:
Villa are lucky to make 4th because their direct competitors for that spot all had similar misfortune
It isn't that Villa "got lucky" to make 4th. Just that if other teams had better luck, they probably just make it. Which makes Villa lucky

    • @joesweeney1712
      @joesweeney1712 Před 22 dny

I haven't commented but I am a villa fan. I think the comments accept what you've said but they're pointing out that we've lost as many first teamers over the season as the vast majority of teams. Using the minutes lost metric doesn't really tell the full story as we have 24 players while Chelsea have well over 40. So 10 injuries for Villa and 20 injuries for Chelsea should still leave Chelsea with more non-academy players.
The upshot is that with less injuries the Man Utds, Newcastles and Chelseas would have gotten more points but what's being overlooked is so would Villa, and perhaps to an even greater extent.

    • @miguelteixeira2112

@@joesweeney1712 I will definitely take your word on all of that, as I am not a Villa fan and have not watched nearly enough to judge their merits. And I wouldn't know the first thing about how to measure "luck with injuries"
Still, I feel like a bunch of Villains' comments come from a place of "This guy's discrediting our season" while to me it just came off as "Their points tally might not look as pretty if clubs around them had better luck in fitness".
Pat just states that Villa were lucky in that sense, not lucky with injuries themselves. Which, all else constant, is just a knit logical argument.
I personally don't think this is a great point either. Just felt the guy was getting a ton of backlash for the wrong reasons ahah

Im not even sure Arsenal's problems come from the players so much as the manager. Not to say tactically he isnt brilliant, but Arteta only trusts 13-14 players. Arsenal plays brilliant football, plenty good enough to win the league, but they don't have a failsafe. They may be as good as city on the field, but not remotely close on the bench. Even if a player isn't having the best run of form, you need to have players that can come off the bench and make a difference. Im not even willing to give Arteta credit for the Reiss Nelson sub in the comeback, because quite honestly that was a fluke. Patrick makes a great point about a player like Neco Williams. Saka is either brilliant or a complete ghost. You need to be able to make a strong substitute for a confident bench player right on that 60 minute mark, not ESR who while brilliant has never really been able to stretch his legs. Arsenal don't need more goals, they need stronger bench players. Champions league, FA cup, carabao, premier league all firing now, they can get talent who know they have to fight for a starting spot now.

Then where the hell are Villa finishing without 4 starters missing almost the whole season, plus about a dozen players out for the last month or so? Kamara, Ramsey, Buendia, and Mings are all key players for us. Pau, another key player, missed a dozen games. Martinez, again, missed half a dozen key games towards the end. We've had both LBs injured, as well as Cash, Zaniolo, and Rogers recently. It's easier to list players who haven't been injured, which I think is only Diaby and Watkins. "Villa have been helped by other teams under performing"
Ffs, I am so tired of that ignorant argument. "Villa didn't really do well. The others just did worse."
So im gonna repeat something I said on a different post.
If Villa win on the final day that puts on 71 points which is more then
Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs (tied) and Chelsea got last season
Spurs, Arsenal and United got in the 21/22 season
Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal got in the 20/21 season
United, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal got in the 19/20 season
And I could keep going. So lets not pretend that this is some one off season where the "Sky 6" are suddenly struggling. Facts say that every single season at least 3 of those don't get above 71 points. So that's what Villa have to do, get to 71 points and Champions league should be almost guaranteed, REGARDLESS of what the "sky 6" do.
So stop using that weak argument to try and lessen Villas achievement this season. Villa who just a few season ago were in Championship, now in Champions league. Villa a team that was 7 points of safety with 4 games to go and survived. Villa, a team that almost no one outside the fanbase put anywhere near the top 4 at the start of the season.
Put some damn respect on our name, we are Aston Villa, and fuck your Sky 6.

Mings and Buendía have missed essentially the entire season. Ramsey and Kamara had their seasons ended before the run in.
