  • The Czech-produced ==Elbee== is a vehicle designed specifically for wheelchair-bound people, allowing them to drive their car without leaving their wheelchair.
Users board and leave the vehicle without any help using a remote-controlled front door and ramp.
After boarding, the chair is safely anchored inside the car.
Measuring just over 1.30 in width, the car fits vertically into tight parking spaces, offering drivers direct access to the pavement.

Ridiculously Priced and it still has no room for purchases. What a shame, because we really need this to be much more affordable and available to the US.

Ridiculously priced? In what world do you live? Do you even know how much does an electric chair cost?
Also, the less they produce, the more expensive it is to manufacture.
If you think you can do better, go ahead, start your own business.

I understand it seems expensive in comparison to the cost of a car, but the parts aren't mass produced, meaning it's very unlikely they'll be able to lower the price.
But I agree that gouvernement / insurances should financially help for the purchase of such vehicles.

my cousin could really benefit from something like this. Yes, he has friends, but you can't rely on them all the time, and frankly, who wants too? This is freedom. Calling it a deathtrap is fear mongering. Are they as safe as an SUV? No, but i'm sure they're as safe as a smart car, although I admit I don't know if they have the roll bars built into them like the smart car. I would certainly hope so

It would be positive if conventional car designers applied it to all the new models they project and manufacture; the concept of "Universal Design" or design for all, as is already the case (by European Directive) with all the new urban buses manufactured in Europe.
The concept of "Universal Design" consists of taking into account some basic dimensional criteria when designing (in this case a vehicle), so that it has some elemental dimensional characteristics of its structure, etc., that allow its interior can be accessible to people who need to move around in our own wheelchair with a minimum basic adaptation, without the need for costly reforms and modifications.
Small models of conventional vehicles the size of the SMART and other similar..., could enable access and travel for people in their own wheelchair if the engineers and designers when projecting them took into account the adoption of the "Universal Design" concept or design for all, applying minimum dimensional criteria in their bodywork that enable the access and driving of a person with a wheelchair from a minimum adaptation...
With this, it would be possible for Europe to have some modern and integrating conventional automobiles that do not exclude an important sector of the population such as people with wheelchairs, who urgently need small and practical vehicles, with low consumption, low maintenance and reasonable price... Currently we do not find anything on the market, because conventional automotive manufacturers and marketers are still unable to see people with disabilities as people like everyone else, and therefore as a "potential customer sector" with the sufficient capacity to considerably increase the sales of the new conventional designs if they were projected applying the needs that I propose.
It is simply that the conventional automotive industry sector has an open vision in this regard in accordance with the times we live in and the vast amount of advanced technology that already exists.
By the way, in Spain the ELBEE is not marketed nor is there any vehicle for sale with similar characteristics for people with disabilities who need it. We have spent many years without a solution and without hope. We hope and wish that European Directives will emerge that determine vehicle design and manufacturing standards that require designers and manufacturers to implement Universal Design in new conventional vehicles, and that until then; models such as the ELBEE begin to be sold and distributed in Spain.
We also need these vehicles to admit the possibility of equipping them with "advanced joystick-type driving controls" that are necessary to enable people with special mobility limitations to drive.
I show an example of these Joystick-type advanced technology controls to which I refer:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Spanish language translation.

My only comment is that there's no room for a few bags of groceries or even a space for a pet carrier to take a cat to the vet. No one in a wheelchair wants to ask for rides or errands to be run, so this would'nt give ME enough independance except to go to the doctor once a year or ? . We need more room for a few bags of groceries or even a big purse.

I am surprised at you complainers! Your selfish disregard for the develop efforts are embarrassing to all of us. We have what we have. If you wish for anything focus on robot legs and arms. Having anything like this at all is still remarkable. In most cases these specifications makes license and insurance expenses necessary. Who would even give us such? These are not for racing on highways or doing donuts in yards. Forethought and wisdom go into their use just like all the GAUNTLETS we face everyday! Selfish and childish!

Does they mention in the video that "wheelchair car" is a Low Speed Vehicle (LSV)? Like all Low Speed Vehicles it has fatal flaws. It has the outward appearance of a car but as a LSV it can only do 25 mph in most states. This is a terrible mix. Normal traffic and especially hurried traffic isn't very tolerant of slow moving "cars" in traffic. LSV's are not permitted on sidewalks or city street bicycle paths. I live in Wichita Kansas where it is relatively friendly and there is no way I would drive on main streets doing only 25 mph! If you doubt me, drive your car at 25 mph down main streets and see what happens! You will be the car of many names! I wish you well but I seriously doubt there is a market for a $20,000 "almost a car". For 20k I can buy a real car and convert it, have room for groceries and passengers and not get run over.
