I’m so glad I found you on you tube! You are so talented, and you explain things so well. You use basic items, and make them beautiful! Your soft spoken voice is very comforting in my very stressful life! Junk journaling has brought me a new peace and joy I haven’t had for a long time. I love the freedom to make a mistake and use it to be something even better. Thank you! I have joined your channel, and sent a ok-fi. You are wonderful! Keep up your wonderful tutorials!❤️🫶
Dear Jane, thank you so much for your kind comment and support. I appreciate it greatly. I am so glad you found my videos comforting. Crafting helped me with anxiety and knowing that my videos bring joy and peace to others is priceless. ❤️❤️❤️
Love the finished product 💜 I just found some of those coffee filters in the resale shop, new box for 50 cents, can't beat that, lol. I don't drink coffee so will have to coffee dye them 😂 The butterflies would also be cute if cut apart then glued back to back with the wing partially hanging over the edge of a page, used as page tabs, maybe with a small dangle off the wing that's overhanging the page, if that makes sense, lol. Thanks so much for the free download, have mine printed and ready to go, thanks again!! 💜💜💜
Yes, I'm late, 😂 Thanks for a great, versatile video. Love that you took the time to show several ways to make these specimen cards. Sure, there's an easier way with just cardstock, however, we Crafters, Makers, & Artists don't take the Easy way. 😂🤷🏻♀️ We take all the extra steps. Altered cards that are glued "feel" different in the hand. I wish I could find that silicone "brush" you use to spread the glue.
Hello! Thank you so much for watching! Oh, that was one of my earlier videos and it's sooo long. I should do a simpler version of it 🤣 I think the silicone brushes are used in sculpture and pottery. Perhaps that could help you search for them. 😊❤️
I like to put a small bit of masking tape on the die and paper or in this case cards. It keeps things perfectly in place while running them thru the cutting machine. I've had the metal die move on the paper especially if its a little slippery like the cards are.
Your presentation, relaxed demeanor, and explanations make for a very pleasant and inspiring tutorial. Paper crafting is totally new for me. I have 14 grandchildren and I suspect they'll all be mesmerized by a nature journal "sprinkled" with these Specimen Cards. You're so generous to share your skill and design ideas. . . Thank you!
You're very welcome! So glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment. I think your grandchildren will love the specimen cards 😊❤️
I've just found your channel and want to tell you how much I enjoyed watching you create. Love your easy-to-follow instructions and method. Can't wait to watch more🌻🌿
Your video was excellent and I'm going to go make the specimen cards now. Your explanations were simple to follow and your voice is so very pleasant. I will have to watch the others as I enjoyed this one so much and thank you for the butterfly download.
Oh, thank you so much for the lovely comment! I really appreciate it. I'm very happy that you liked the video. I hope you have lots of fun making some specimen cards! Enjoy the download 😊❤️
Very cool idea...the cards add that extra sturdiness great idea......I will try. I would agree try to die cut after adding paper.....oh and I went to your website thank you for the free downloads.....I have printed off the butterflies and will try them out....thank you thank you !!
You're most welcome! Thanks so much for watching! Yes, die cutting after glueing is a great idea, saves a lot of time! Next time I make them I'll definitely try cutting after 😊❤️
I love this! I don't have a Sizzix machine but could've you decoupaged the paper on first before cutting the shapes? After they've thoroughly dried off course
Yes, you're absolutely right! That would have been much quicker. I tried that before filming the video but my dies weren't sharp enough or there were too many layers so I ended up doing it this way. My coffee filters were also very tough, almost like fabric and very difficult to cut even with just one layer. I didn't mind the extra work though, because I liked the openings to be wrapped, they just looked nicer to me when fully wrapped and no layers lifting of. Thank you so much for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow! It took me 2 days to make 10 but they are super cute. May have to make more as I forgot to make a bee one for my Bee journal .🤪 it made me realize how much time and effort you put into the making of this video, thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you made some. I've been thinking lately of how to do this differently so it's not such a long process. I'm working on it, hopefully there will be versions 2 of this video. 😊❤️
Thank you for your helpful information on making specimen cards I am happy to to see you use recycled coffee filters I like recycling as much as I can this is a wonderful video thank you so much ❤ THEOLA
Thank you for always showing ways to do these things if you don’t have a lot of tools. I really appreciate it. Your videos are great. So glad I found your channel
Just gorgeous! So pretty and unusual. I also love the sound they make when you handle them. Definitely a great use for old playing cards! I don't have any coffee filters so I will probably make them with some of my coffee-dyed paper. I thought I might draw a grid on an A4 laminating folder and lay the specimens in the grid and laminate them all in one go, and then cut them out along the lines - I think this might work. I don't have any tiny laminating folders.
I'm really glad you liked the video. I love the sound they make, too. Almost like wood. Coffee dyed paper would work, too. That's a great idea drawing the grid and doing many at the same time. I do it when I'm out of small ones. Thank you so much for watching! ❤️😊
Your specimen slides turned great! I love them so much and I hope to try them myself. You explained the options so well that you gave me the courage to try them myself. Thank you so much!!
It's just amazing Dragana, what you have done with the playing cards! And it was no problem for me to stay until the end with no skipping! Lol I'm fortunate to have some of the tools, but it's so nice that you show alternative ways to do things for the people who don't have them. These cards turned out so beautiful and I will put this on my to do list, which is growing every day ! Thanks for all the time you spent making this video.😸❤
You're most welcome! Thank you for watching! I tried using a brown colored napkins instead of coffee dyed filters. Paper could work if it's not too thick, maybe tissue paper or even brown baking paper is an option! 😊
Fantastic project. The specimen cards turned out gorgeous. Love them all. Got the playing cards but not those coffee filters have some white ones from probably 30 years ago. But definitely could use paper shopping bags. Thank you for sharing. Will be trying this project.
Lovely job and thank you for showing us all your tricks in making them so special. What brand laminator do you have and would you recommend it. Also where did you get your self inking specimen stamp. Thank you
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you liked the video. I use this old laminator that I bought more than 15 years ago. I don't know the brand, it doesn't say, there's only a little logo "CB" on it. All I remember is that it was really cheap. It never failed me so I guess it's ok. I bought self inking stamp in OfficeWorks (when I was in Australia) It's the one you get with full alphabet and you arrange words yourself. I plan to get more of these, they're great and ink lasts like forever ❤️😊
Thank you for sharing. Wondering if you can glue the coffee filter to the card first and then run them through the Sizzix Big Shot to cut out the shapes. In this way you have a clean cut and you can avoid snipping all around and then glueing to get smooth edges….just a thought.
It’s a valid point. It would have been much quicker for sure. I think the coffee filters that I used were made of some strange fibre that was really tough and stretchy, almost like fabric. My dies couldn’t cut through a single layer of that coffee filter. In the end I decided to do that other technique of wrapping the openings. I liked the finished look, but it took more time to do 😊❤️
Loved your video, I have lots of playing cards I create atc, dex cards and more. But I need to find them in my room lol. I really love logging onto CZcams and there you are. Im a new follower and love watching, you are brilliant. Honestly very creative you have me saving packaging and toilet paper rolls now. LOL
Hi Lynn! I'm glad you enjoy my videos! Thank you so much for subscribing and watching ❤️. Oh, there's just so much packing, I can't work fast enough to use it all up 🤣
i was also wondering if you can just use die cuter to cut the coffee filters at the same time when cutting the cards. Like placing coffee filters on top of the card and running those three layers through die cutter?
Hi Elisabeth! Yes, you're absolutely right. It would have been much easier. Coffee filters I used are so tough, almost like fabric, and I couldn't get a nice cut when using the machine. The other reason for not cutting them before gluing is that paper changes shape once it is wet from glue and I wanted neat openings. I tried cutting the shapes after gluing to the cards and it was mission impossible. Too many layers, or perhaps my dies were not sharp enough. And besides I really like the openings to be wrapped with paper, I like that look ❤❤❤
These are lovely. But wouldn't it have been easier if you had run the dried coffee filter pieces through the machine with the various die cut shapes? Then you could simply match those to the cut playing cards. Thanks for the video!

You're most welcome! Thank you for watching! Yes, you can do die cuts after glueing the filters. It'd be much quicker to do. My die cuts were just not sharp enough to cut through so many layers and I wanted to have coffee filters wrapped around the opening. ❤️
I have just found your channel. Liked and subscribed. I love this idea to use my stash of plain cards and dried flowers. I would love to know where you got your specimen stamp if possible?
Hello and welcome! Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. I'm glad you liked the video 😊. I bought the stamp from shop called Officeworks in Australia years ago. It was one of those stamps that are usually used for adding your address. It comes with the full alphabet and numbers that you can arrange yourself to print whatever you want it to print. It can fit 4-5 lines of text. 😊❤️
Thanks so much for watching. I'm really glad you liked the video. Perhaps coffee dyed tissue paper could do the trick. Several layers of napkins should work as well. If they're white, you could ink them after the glue dries. I hope this helps 😊❤️
Oh course you can! My coffee filters were a bit tough and my cutting dies couldn't cut properly through so many layers. I also liked the finished look when I wrapped the filters over, but you can certainly make them whatever way it's easier for you 😊❤️
Thank you so much for watching. I understand that most people don’t watch the whole video but some things can’t be shown and explained clearly in just 7 minutes. I try to include chapters in all my videos so that people can easily skip some parts 😊
I tried making these specimen cards myself following along your video. Well I have tea died and coffee dyed two different kinds of coffee filters and not only can you see the card through the filters but I've tried every glue in my stash and none of them allow the filters to stick to it. I'm not sure what brand you were using, but could you please tell me what brand of filter you use because these were a feel for me.😢
Hi! I used German brand of filters that's available here. Name is Profissimo Kaffeefilter size 4. Have you tried sanding the cards with a sandpaper before gluing? Sometimes it helps if the cards are very shiny. The glue will adhere better to rough surface. Hope this helps 😊❤️
Thanks for the lovely video. When your Nora barked, my Matisse barked back. How sweet. I’m excited to make these in the coming weeks. 🤗🇨🇦🤗
Hahaha, our dogs communicating through the video is so cute! Love that! Thanks so much for watching and for your nice comment. 😊❤️

😊❤️
@@Saacibo Thank you. Now t find something similar in the UK 😂
Just found this video. Would love to give it a go but can't figure out what to use as a substitute for the coffee filter paper as I don't have any x
Thanks so much for watching. I'm really glad you liked the video.
Perhaps coffee dyed tissue paper could do the trick. Several layers of napkins should work as well. If they're white, you could ink them after the glue dries. I hope this helps 😊❤️
Any type of paper, does not have to be coffee filters.
Can you cut the coffee filter when you die cut or use shape cutter to avoid this step?
