    Great Warhammer 40k RPG information. I love the dice mechanic! More people need to know about this Cubicle7 role playing game

    I know the video is a bit old, but i recently just did a dry run of character creation myself to understand a bit more about the system and how to make a character. It was actually pretty straightforward if you play with one of the pre-built archetypes and even has a step by step process available to those who don't want to use a specific archetype and make their own instead. (I built a Cultist using the recommended process of making a Ganger and replacing their archetype ability with a [Mark of Chaos] ability.)
    Because of the freeform creation available, its easy enough to flex the whole system to create... Just about any character.

      Yeah the custom character creation can be quite good for that, although it’s probably best for 40K fans who like yourself can identify something like a chaos cultist and make it accordingly!

    Excellent video with some great tips for W&G. One question, however: from around 7:20 you start talking about matching Rank-ups with Tier-ups. What do you mean? There are only 3 Ranks in W&G, and through XP accumulation you would have maxed them out before your first in-game Ascension. Yet you mentioned Rank as high as 6 in the video - can you please elaborate on this?

    • @DiceyEncounters
      @DiceyEncounters  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Will, yeah I can answer that! There's some discussion around if you're playing a game that crosses several Tiers, you could tie Ascension with also ranking up. This is because the rank 3 bonuses are pretty huge, and it would smooth out that feeling of getting more powerful, but also gives the players a bigger incentive to get to higher tiers as well. I've read the game isn't really designed to go from tier 1 to 4 in one campaign, but each campaign is based on just 1 or maybe 2 tiers, with Ranks being that nice 'levelling up' moment. But if you start at Tier 1 and get to Rank 3 before hitting tier 2, you lose out on that for the rest of the campaign.

    • @WarFlail
      @WarFlail Před 2 lety +1

      @@DiceyEncounters That's a good way to handle it, I think. The Ranking system is W&G's biggest flaw IMO - I would prefer to see it harder to Rank up than how the rules have it, since there are only 3 Ranks and they are permanent. As you say, the bonuses at Rank 3 are pretty huge, especially +Double Rank. It gives me the impression that W&G campaigns are intended to be short and characters aren't really meant to Ascend, which is a bit weird given the effort C7 had put into Ascension rules. Associating a Rank-up with Ascension would be a good way of stretching this out.

      @@WarFlail Yep exactly, we went from tier 2 to 4 and by the end it was quite ridiculous! The latest book (Redacted Records) had some cool concepts for single tier campaigns so that would be how I'd run it again.

    I feel like someone with lore knowledge is needed. The glass cannon runs a great playthrough because the DM and one other player has a vast lore knowledge. I love the idea of WnG system but myself and my players know almost zero of the lore....in a narrative based system that's critical. I would like to see an adventure that helps explore the lore for new players

      Yeah we had 2 players who did, and 2 who didn’t and it was a big difference for each side.

    how does it compare to the old FFG "dark heresy"/ 40k rpgs?
    i suppose if your the GM, and your NOT TPK-ing the party every session, you're doing 40k wrong :P

    • @DiceyEncounters
      @DiceyEncounters  Před 2 lety +1

      I think the old FFG games are more crunchy rules wise, thanks to the D100 system which some people prefer. I personally like the dice pool system as it streamlines things! Although if you’ve got an experienced group they may prefer the extra rules and depth of the FFG games. Biggest change is probably the tier system so you can start at different power levels, or mix them up. Which brings in Ascension so instead of a TPK the party could get saved by a new patron and be forced to work for them instead!

    Actually running my players through their first one shot of W&G. My party is uh.... well lot of Chaos and Xenos with a SoB. Gonna be interesting but kinda shrugging off the issues it brings.

      @@DiceyEncounters so I managed to completely miss the patron part before letting the players pick. Ended up just rewriting the Rouge Trader to make it work.
